Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-23 to 25-2019 We arrive this morning from our three day trip. We left last Sunday with very high expectations. Only to get them crushed over the next three days. There had been a week straight of fantastic yellowfin tuna and bluefin tuna fishing. It all came tumbling down on Sunday. We definitely hit things on the backside at the very bottom of the bell curve. We managed to scratch up a few nice tuna after getting an early start out on Sunday but all the big hits came that morning. Monday we were able to find one school of good grade yellowfin tuna that stayed with us a while that gave us hopes for the rest of the day being good fishing. It didn't turn out that way though we only picked up another handful of fish throughout of long day of searching. Tuesday we had plenty of action but it was mostly on skipjack in the morning with a mix of smaller grade yellowfin tuna. We hammered out the day until dark with not much luck. As we all know It makes a huge difference on timing when you get out to the fishing grounds we just missed it by a few days. We had a great group of anglers that stuck with us Trying hard all throughout the three days. Polaris Supreme docked at Fisherman's Landing August 3 under skipper Drew Henderson's hand. There were 24 anglers aboard the five-day trip. "We had a good day on the one day the albacore were up," said Drew. "Then we fished kelps for dorado and yellowtail." Ron Chisum of Escondido won first place for a 32.4-pound albacore he got with a sardine on a 3/0 Mustad hook and 30-pound Ande line. He said he used a TLD 15 reel and a Calstar 270 rod. He brought his best dorado, a 25-pounder, into the lineup photo. Steve Taylor of Napa Valley tied for second place with Tom Connors of Escondido. Both had albacore of 31.8 pounds.

Hello Everyone, Today was a great day. Yellowfin to start the morning and Yellowtail and Grouper during the day. We did not catch a whole lot of Grouper but the ones we caught were big one. We cannot wait to weigh them at the dock. We will be working up the line tonight in search of Yellowtail tomorrow. Wish us luck, Team Supreme Pictured here is Jim with a nice Dorado in the dark.

We had some short range trips online and were able to catch a good amount of school sized fish and 3 jumbo tuna! Including the First 2 cow tuna to come aboard the Polaris Supreme in 4 years!

July 14 and 15 all in one.
    We fished the 14th offshore in some haven't been fished in waters for a while and we found plenty of tuna but they were all small.  For the most part it's what the grade of yellowfin is this year so we opted to put tags on them.  It bit well on one stop.  After a while we wound in the jigs due to constant jig strikes, we couldn't short stop anymore without it costing us time in the local grounds where the better grade was biting.  Mark and I played a game we call suicide trolling.  We each put out a troll rod and the first one to get a tuna on deck wins.  The boat doesn't stop.  We both got bit instantly but mine fell off.  I kept getting bit but they wouldn't hook.  After 30 seconds I realized I didn't have a hook on my jig and by the time I got a different jig out we were past the fish and Mark took his time and wound his in for the victory.  

    We can't complain about today.  The weather was as good as it gets.  No wind and no sea.  It was beautiful.  We also caught 54 30-35 pound tuna and for what was around today, it was a good score.  We're headed in and we're going to be the first boat in tomorrow at 0530 hours.  We'll be heading back out tomorrow on another 5 day trip.  See you then.

 

Today we went out with 27 anglers and caught 30 yellowtail. These yellows have been a challenge to hook but well worth the work. The grade of this fish is as good as anybody can remember in the local waters. 25-30 pounders have become the norm rather than the exception. The wise angler would bring a 25 or 30 lb. bait rod a 40 or 50 lb. yo-yo rod as well as your surface iron rod with fresh 40 lb. Today we caught fish on all three techniques.
