12 Bluefin and 21 Yellowtail for our Angler’s yesterday. Bluefin were a “legit” 40-65 pounds on average with plenty of them lost.

Jodie Morgan called in with this report for the Apollo out of Fisherman's Landing. "We have limits of Yellowtail, averaging about 24 lbs. We have also caught 1 Bluefin Tuna. We are on a 1 Day trip. It is beautiful weather.

  Good evening everyone. We're out fishing again on a wonderful 2 day trip. That means we fished this afterrnoon and we have all day tomorrow. I was pretty pumped when we left the dock. The bluefin reports were good and the local guys were catching yellowfin close to home. We got a pretty good load of bait and took off on the hunt. We got the goose egg today. The very unfortunate 0. It was definitely a time of day thing because we saw a couple schools and plenty of loose fish, they just wanted nothing to do with us this afternoon. We're going to gather ourselves and get set up on the bluefin grounds tonight and hopefully make up for today tomorrow.

 The weather today was great and as always we hope for the same tomorrow. Also I love our new electronics. Wait till you see it.

176 yellowfin tuna 2 skipjack tuna. Finesse bait gear has proven to be very important. Today’s high liners were fishing 15&20 lb and #4 & #2 live bait hooks. Keep a 40 lb rod nearby because we have had some short windows of aggressive fish.

Andrew Viola called in with a mid morning update from the Pacifica out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego, CA.

We have half limits of Bluefin Tuna and a couple of nice Yellowtail and Dorado on the boat. We are stopped on a school right now and hoping to round off the count.

The Pacifica is back out tomorrow night for a 1.5 day trip fishing offshore for Tuna and Yellowtail. Departs at 9PM.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-11-2016 Good evening folks, Polaris Supreme checking in. We started our day in the same area where we had phenomenal yellowtail fishing yesterday. The bait was there, the birds were there and the current was there, but for some reason the yellowtail were not. We did manage to pick away at a couple yellowtail, but we just couldn't get the ball rolling. After accepting the fact that the yellowtail pulled a no-show, we decided to make our way offshore in hopes of better things. And indeed better things we found! We spotted a big beautiful kelp patty that had a jumbo school of large hungry yellowtail beneath it. It was a day saver! These fish were biting the fly line and yo-yo jigs. We also saw a couple nice Dorado on the kelp but they did not like our offerings. We are now making way back up north to another area where we will be finishing off our trip by fishing for those larger size yellowtail once again. Also, sorry for the lack of pictures today. The Annual SFR charter aboard the Apollo with Captain J.J Gerritsen and crew was a big success !! The Apollo is running out of Sea Landing on beautiful Santa Barbara Harbor, the closest harbor to the outer Channel Islands. Great weather meant an ideal cruise over to San Miguel Island for some of the finest shallow water rockfishing you'll find anywhere. 300 feet down you say, maybe 200, how about 100 feet ? No way. The offshore terrain around San Miguel is so rugged and marked with underwater pinnacles, we spent most of the day fishing in 25 to 90 feet of water. Lighter rigs, jigs, leadheads and swimbaits were the order of the day, and the San Miguel rockfish were in a hungry mood. We started catching fish before daybreak and spent the rest on the trip hauling up huge reds, chuckles and lings, all sporting some of the most vibrant colors I've seen on any fish in a long time. Awesome day!! We limited out on huge rockfish, slammed about 50-60 grumpy whitefish, 5-6 huge goats and 16 or so pre-historic looking lings before calling it a trip. Epic day !!!! The jackpot was a nail biter as Shawn Suhr's huge lingcod and Art Moralez's giant goat battled to a near dead heat. Captain J.J needed to come down and settle the score, with the final vote went going to Shawn's 12-13 pound ling. Great job Shawn. Captain J.J and his crew did an awesome job as always and the Apollo is looking as spotless as ever. The Apollo will be in Santa Barbara till around mid May before moving down to Fisherman's Landing in San Diego.
