Captain Ryan checked in tonight to report in. We had 40 passengers on a private charter catch 136 yellowtail 174 calico bass. Very good action all day.

14 Anglers, 23 Yellowtail, 47 Bonito.  Tomorrow’s trip (Nov 13) has been cancelled due to lack of reservations.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-15-2013

 

 

The majestic blood-red sunset that we experienced at the end of our day today was simply magnificent. I'm not exaggerating. Allow me to set the stage. We've been struggling to find the fish that we've been looking for in sufficient quantities over the past few days, but we found EXACTLY what the doctor had ordered earlier in the afternoon. One of the crew perched in the crow's nest spotted some bird activity around a floating object in the distance. We trolled past the inflated "gas bag", and soon the entire boat erupted in mayhem. Virtually every bait to hit the water was quickly inhaled by the voracious dorado residing near the flotsam. Once we put the hurt on those good-size flatheads, the wahoo started to bite. We did well. Real well. Anyway, back to the sunset. Visualize a full moon rising in the east, casting glimmering silhouettes on the slight chop, as the sun is setting in the west, lighting up the entire field of vision with a crimson glow. It was simply magnificent. We fished until darkness interrupted us.

"Red sky at night ..." . so of course we're looking forward to another beautiful day out here tomorrow, weather-wise. The fishing is merely icing on the cake. Speaking of cake ... dinner tonight is a braised German chicken dish. Gotta go, I'm hungry!

Captain Mike Pritchard called in with a FINAL Wrapup! We found a kelp on the way back in with a bonus 25 yellowtail. We did find catch 30 Yellowfin Tuna under a school of Dolphin. How's it going everyone, We have just wrapped up our second day of fishing. We started up the morning in prime yellowfin country. The morning began with short stops with fish being caught on the troll and live baits on the slide. After searching the area for a couple hours we were able to find what we wanted, a big school of Yellowfin tuna that were eager to come aboard the Polaris Supreme. From skip-jigs to dead bait these hungry yellowfin wanted it all. During the late morning fishing noticeably slowed, and we decided work our way out of that yellowfin zone and begin heading towards an area were we will be fishing for bigger grade Yellowtail. Filled with anticipation and a delicious chicken dinner, we all hit the sack early to be well rested for the day to come! Also on side note, we just had a spot open up on our next trip, the Beck 5 day. A great group of guys to fish with and a great time of year to fish! Tight lines, Team Supreme

Bluefin Tuna! The Apollo will hit the dock around 6 PM tonight. They scored 16 Bluefin Tuna and 6 Yellowtail. That is the best score on the tuna this season. Call Fisherman's Landing now at (619) 221-8500 to book your spot.

Skipper JJ Gerritsen returned with his Apollo to Fisherman's Landing November 21, after an eight-day, ultra-limited trip. The boat's ten passengers fished Guadalupe Island before taking off for Magdalena Bay to fish big tuna on their final day. "All of our long range trips are ultra-limited," said JJ. "It takes away competition factors, we won't do more than ten passengers. We got limits of yellowfin, Guadalupe's been great our last six trips, but we did something different this time; we headed out for a shot at these big ones. All of our fish are kept in refrigerated saltwater, so they still look great." Matt Bowland of Encinitas took home the best tuna; a 224-pound yellowfin that fought "long and hard." Matt used a 6/0 Owner ringed Super Mutu hook, on an 80-pound P-Line topshot, 100-pound Spectra, a Tiagra 30 reel and a Calstar Grafighter 765 H rod. "I butt-hooked the sardine," said Matt. "The fight lasted two and a half hours." Drew Card of San Diego was second with a 196-pound tuna, and Craig Biddick of Rancho Santa Fe was third for a 164-pounder.

Hi friends. Different day for us here on the Supreme. After thumping and bumping our way up the line last night, we were pleasantly surprised to find decent weather when we put the lines in the water. Our weather just got progressively better and better throughout the day. Super good feelings about that, especially after yesterdays beating. Anyhow, the Bluefin tuna cooperated for us this morning and we produced on multiple drifts all the way until after lunch. The grade of fish was dandy; a lot of 25-40 pounders with a few bigger and few smaller in the mix, but for the most part, it was a nice quality of tuna that the gang threw aboard today and we deserved it.

Although we would've liked more to make up for yesterday, we're happy that the gang had some action and we're happy with the quality. We're also happy with Chef Schoolers Fillet Oscar that we haven't had in a few weeks. With that, we've put a bow on this 3-day adventure and are currently en route back to San Diego. Our ETA is looking like around 06:30 hours tomorrow. The boat turns around for Mr. Eric Roggers 5-day party cruise. Look for Captain Drew to man the helm and the keyboard. Take care, y'all.
