Larry Brown chartermastered a 976 TUNA father-son five-day trip aboard Polaris Supreme with skipper Drew Henderson. The expedition returned to Fisherman's Landing June 21. The trip produced a remarkable catch of yellowtail that included some halibut, three bluefin and two albacore.
Brown said the yellowtail fishing at Cedros Island was excellent, though seals created some problems.
"The weather was good except the wind came up on the last day, when we fished outside," he said.
The jackpot lineup was most unusual: an opah, a white seabass and a yellowtail. Mark Taylor of Jamul got the first-place, 67.2-pound moonfish or opah, on a sardine-colored Mega Bait jig, with 40-pound Big Game line on a Trinidad 30 reel and a Seeker 6470 Black Steel rod.
Rick Parks of Watsonville won second place for a 54.6-pound white seabass that took his sardine on a dropper loop. Alex Bravo of San Diego won third place for a 47.2-pound yellowtail.
The kid's jackpot featured two yellowtail bracketing a bluefin tuna. Alex Bravo Jr. of San Diego, 14, won first place for a 42.6-pound yellow. Sydney Mack, 10, (whose dad Dave works on the boat) caught a 32.8-pound bluefin tuna. David Jacobsen, 10, got a 32-pound yellowtail.

Today we switched gears to Wahoo fishing. It was quite a bit of work but our persistence payed off with a couple nice stops on Wahoo. The fish are beautiful and the grade is excellent. we will be here tomorrow to try and get another crack at them.
Here we have Alan with an absolute Jumbo Wahoo!

This past week was all about yellowtail and warm water. 40 - 115 yellowtail per trip with a sprinkling of dorado sums up the past week. I attached a photo of the terrafin chart for our area to show you guys all the warm water. Anything over 70 degrees is considered warm and as you can tell we have plenty of it. As a matter of fact finding the cooler water has actually been the key to catching these yellowtail. The most common question this week was "when are the yellowfin going to show up". While I don't have a crystal ball to tell you exactly when they are going to show up. I can tell you that they have made a major northern movement over the past week and there has been yellowfin tuna caught as close as 60 miles. With all this warm water in the area the table is definitely set for some phenomenal fall fishing. If your looking to get off the beach and chase exotics with us. Call Seaforth at 619-224-3383.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-17-2016
Good morning everyone. We ended up driving around most of the day yesterday and seeing only a few schools after the first two hours. That Bluefin was not up and foaming and boiling and crashing and jumping and breezing like it has been. Late in the day we got on eight Breezers that were the size of Midtown Manhattan that we made long drifts flying the kites, fly lining, sinker fishing, jig fishing etc. with no luck. Just as we were getting ready to take off to the Yellowfin tuna grounds after dinner we had a nice school come under and managed to hook a 115 pounder and landed it. Quite a long day but we ended up with two beautiful tuna both caught in the dark and both caught on iron. The majority of the Bluefin that is caught, is caught that way or on fly fish trolled with the kite through big schools. Today we will be fishing Yellowfin tuna and hitting kelp patties for Yellowtail and Dorado. Our weather is good and were looking for a little bit more action than one in the morning and one at the end of the day. We will check with you later. Have a great day.
The Polaris supreme crew.

Once again, we left today, Friday to spend our weekend on the sea. For 1.5 days. Friday-Sunday. We have bait, and we're headed out. One big tank of chovy, and 2 tanks of dine. We're hoping to put them to good use. We're headed out. I feel OK about leaving my daught for her first dress up Halloween. I got to see her in her lady bug costume and try and trick or treat it up at my wifes work. So here we go.

Hi friends. Tough day out here for us on the local Bluefin grounds. The weather gave us fits all day but we did manage to get a few handfuls of Bluefin this morning and a few off of a kelp later in the day. There's not too much to say about what happened today. The weather made things rather sporty but we gave it our all and are happy that we at least had a few stops to show for our efforts. The gang hung tough and we appreciate that from them. They definitely treated the last day like the first.
At around 18:00 hours, we had to call it a trip and begin our end of the trip chores. Chef Shawn just kicked out the Fillet Mignon and crab cakes, Tommy put the slide show on the 50" flat screen, and we enjoyed our final dinner together. Paul's group is always a pleasure to fish/dine/chat with and we had a ball once again. We'd like to say thanks to Paul and company for being the bomb.
Anyhow, our ride is decent as we travel up towards home. We'll be into the docks at 06:00 hours and the guys will be turning around for another 5-day adventure. Look for Drew's reports to be sent out tomorrow evening. Take care.
