Once again we weren't holding the lucky horse shoe in the tuna grounds today. We saw some fish in the morning but not a lot. Around lunch time up until after 6 we saw several schools that for us, wouldn't stick with the boat. Some of the boats found some that stuck which for a boat that didn't can be quite frustrating. We're going to stick it out here for our last day tomorrow. We have plenty of time tomorrow to locate biting fish and that's what we'll do. The weather was good today. A little windy late but the forecast for tomorrow looks great.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 08-07-2012

Absolutely gorgeous flat calm weather today. And that was the key to pulling the rabbit out of the hat at the end of the day. Definitely a slow start from morning through mid-day. But in the afternoon it was game on, on light breezers of yellowfin tuna. The schools probably only held 50 fish each and were really, really hard to see. Just barely making the lightest ripple on the water. The challenge of it made it really fun for Drew and I trying to spot them. Especially since they immediately bum rushed the boat when we slid on them. And everybody hooked one right off the bat. If you were quick, you got two before it was all over. And then off we were to find another school. The fast pace was very exciting after the last two days of plunker fishing. We fished late so we will have a late arrival tomorrow, probably around 9:00 am. We will get out an update on jackpot contenders and then for the next 3-day, Captain Drew will be out with the Prince of Words, Richie, doing the updates.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with an update from The San Diego. We had 144 Yellowfin Tuna and 70 Dorado! The fish were not full speed. It was a pick all day. Hi friends. We arrived this morning to Fisherman's Landing on-time and unloaded our catch from the Joe Beck/Bob Vance 5-day trip and big fish honors go as followed: Dan "Re-Ride" Burns and Tim Dughi tied for first with their 30.4 lb. Yellowtail and Uncle Norman Wintjen took third place with his 23.4 lb. Yellowtail. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to Joe Beck and the gang for yet another great trip. We'll see y'all next year. Anyhow, we departed on Garry Roberts annual 9-day adventure and Garry has brought along with him the usual suspects and everyone is antsy to see what the southern-most destinations of Baja California Sur have to offer. For a little warm-up, we'll be giving the Bluefin/Yellowfin area a short try tomorrow morning before we continue on to greater points south. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you tomorrow.

Mike Pritchard called in to give this report for the Tribute. "We're on day 2 of a 4 day charter trip with a light load of guys. It is just an 8 man charter. We're having very good fishing. We started off fishing for Bluefin yesterday, with a little bit of Rockfishing in the afternoon. We also caught a couple of nice Lingcod up to 28 lbs. We made a move about 100 miles down the beach and got into some really good Yellowtail fishing, 35 to 40 lb. yellowtail. The best techniques have been fly-lined fish, yo-yo jigs and surface irons. Just very fun fishing. We're going to spend the rest of the day down here and go offshore tomorrow. We'll target some yellowfin tuna and keep you updated.

Captain Ryan Bostian called up early this morning with an update from "The San Diego" out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. We got in really late last night so we were unable to call in a report. However, we had very good Bluefin Tuna fishing for tuna in the 20 to 40 pound class. Our group of 30 anglers ended up with 54 Bluefin Tuna. We did see some bigger fish jumping around but we did not hook any. The 20 pound bait rod was the ticket with a 1o or 2o circle hooks.

Well, things do change. Conditions aren't looking good. The water here is dirty and just not right for a good yellow bite. Hope it changes.

The Pacifica returned from a 2-Day 976-Tuna sponsored trip.
