Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-18-2016 Good evening everyone and thanks for checking in. Today was another gorgeous travel day into the lower latitudes. The weather just just about picture perfect all day long. As normal on these longer trips, Mike prepares a little bit of a later breakfast and shortly after the crew puts on our detailed fishing tackle seminar. There is a lot to go over to get the guys tuned up on the wide variety for fishing we might encounter. Being that there's so many different things we might see, we can't leave any stone unturned, especially for the guys that either haven't been on the Supreme or just haven't been on a longer trip at all. It's very important we have everyone dialed in and on the same page. The rest of the day was rather casual, a lot of rigging, crimping leaders, setting up jigs and just making sure all of the gear is fine tuned,. Once we got everyone tuned up the afternoon closed out with movies, naps reading books and just enjoying a nice ride down. Tomorrow we'll start off with some offshore style fishing and continue to make our plan for the rest of the trip. Hello there Polaris Supreme fans,

                                              Today was another travel day for us, this morning we had or seminar on fishing for giant YFT.  The crew went over fly lining, big bait , jig fishing, sinker rig, and kite fishing. We also handed out all the loaner gear and the guys started rigging up. Around 1600 we made a drive by the Rocks and found two 25 lb YFT willing to bite the jigs now we have fresh tuna for tomorrow nights dinner! Speaking of dinner its about time for me to go get ready for dinner so until tomorrow tight lines!!

The Tribute checekd in with us today with 88 fat Yellowfin Tuna and 54 Skipjack for their angler’s today. Most of the fish came during a wide open bite first thing in the morning.

We are continuing to see impressive schools. It seems everyday we are getting better responses out of them. Our last trip we had a good opportunity on the 60-90 pound fish, keeping 1 to 5 fish hooked for the better part of 4 hours. Getting a bite wasn’t the hard part but because we were forced to use our “finesse” gear we had to work very hard to land them. Hopefully the trend continues ! 

Tommy Rothery returned Polaris Supreme to Fisherman's Landing November 18 after a ten-day Ocean Tackle Research charter. The boat had 13 anglers aboard. Chartermaster Lon Mikkelsen of Hood River, OR saw his father, Bill Mikkelsen of Olympia, WA land the season's first super cow; a tuna over 300 pounds. "It was full-speed fishing," said Chartermaster Lon Mikkelsen.

Bill Mikkelsen's big fish won first place after it weighed in at 308.8-pounds, caught on a fly-lined sardine. Bill used the boat's gear, including a 6/0 Mustad 7691 hook, 100-pound P-Line, and a Shimano rod and reel. "Tommy said it was tail-wrapped from the beginning," said the elder Mikkelsen. "And he was, but he got lose and went on another run. He took me around the boat twice."
