Good evening everyone, Today we spent the day, crimping, cutting, wiring, and simply enjoying the ride down the line. Sun in the sky, low winds, and great company. What more can you ask for! We have Wahoo in our sights for tomorrow morning and are making great speed traveling down. We should arrive early tomorrow morning to begin trying for these fish. Captain Ryan Bostian checked in from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. We fished at the Coronado Islands yesterday. It was our first trip at the Islands for a months. We had 13 anglers and we had full limits of Yellowtail on our first stop of the day. We had excellent fishing for Yellowtail, Bonito and Calico Bass. They were biting on surface iron and fly-lined baits.

The loads are light. We had two reservations for tomorrow so we should have plenty of room on the boat.

Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning from the Tribute. We are fishing out West today. We are catching Yellowfin Tuna and Bluefin Tuna. We have 90 mixed fish on the boat at 8:30 AM. We also have a good score on the Yellowtail. They are biting the 30 pound pretty job. We got a few on the Jig. We do have spots open on Sunday's trip. 2 days of searching was rewarded with a bottom of the 9th rally on good grade yellowtail. Flylined sardines on 25 lb is the most productive right now.

A five-day Dan Heil Annual Charter aboard Polaris Supreme with Skipper Drew Henderson, arrived August 21 at Fisherman's Landing. "It's been 20 years now, since '87," said chartermaster Ron Heil, "that I've been doing this trip. My father Dan, who passed away this last season, had been doing it since Tommy (Rothery) bought the boat back in '80 or '81." Dan Heil had been chartering with Rothery since the early eighties on the Polaris Deluxe, now the Breezers. He sailed with Rothery on the Polaris Supreme since '85. Rothery bought the boat from Bill Poole in 1987. "It was a little choppy on that first day," said Skipper Henderson. "But we had great albacore fishing. Cedros was great, we spent a half-day kelp fishing with little action, so we finished up at Benitos, and it was all the fish you could get." "We had a good trip and great timing," continued Heil, who hails from Portland, OR. "Drew did a great job, right out of the chute the first day, we were on a great albacore bite. It was a well rounded trip."
Mike Hunting of Riverside landed a 48.4-pound yellowtail at Benitos Islands, good for first place in the jackpot. Mike fished a sardine on a 5/0 Owner hook, 40-pound P-Line, an Avet HX 2-speed reel, and a Calstar rod. "We were in a shallow spot on the ridge" said Hunting, "and there were guys losing fish in the kelp. So when I got bit, I decided he wasn't gonna get to the kelp, so I buttoned down, past strike, and started cranking." Bill Byler of Covina was second for a 37.6-pound albacore and Gary De Void of Encinitas was third for a 36.4-pound albie.

2 yellowfin 5 dorado 51 yellowtail. Plenty of kelps but no lucky ones for us today.

13 bluefin tuna from 40 to 80 lbs and 2 yellowtail. Come prepared with a 25 lb setup for kelp fish and smaller tuna. A 40 or 50 lb setup for flylining sardines at the 60-80 lb tuna and a 60 or 80 lb setup for flatfalling. Fluorocarbon is a must as well as size 1 to 2/0 circle hooks. Come take advantage of this rare opportunity to catch a true trophy fish in local waters without trolling.

Well, after landing another 16 nice grade tuna, we left Alijos in search for better fishing grounds. We are in flat, clam, gorgeous weather. As we traveled we were treated to yellowfin and yellowtail sushi and sashimi that was to die for. Thanks for checking in.
