July 6

Today went as planned. We did about what we thought we'd do. Scratched at yellowfin most of the day. Our best stop was for 7, then 6, we had a handfull of 4's and the rest were 3's 2's and 1's. That's exactly how the tuna fishing has been on a good day for the last few weeks so we had a good day.

The weather did what it was supposed to do. It was beautiful in the morning and got breezy in the afternoon. It looks like the wind backed off when it got dark. Hopefully it stays that way. We're heading down to Cedros Island now and we'll be there at day break.

Covered a lot of water today. Found a good school in the bottom of the ninth. Ended with 66 good grade yellowfin.

Captain Mike Pritchard called in last night from the Tribute. We wrapped up our 1.5 day trip. We fished out West. We had 56 Bluefin Tuna (38 pounds), 52 Yellowfin Tuna, 38 Yellowtail, and other assorted fish. We have another 1.5 day trip that departs on Monday night. Getting a school of Yellowtail to this point is the last stage of some serious skipper sh**t. Today Capt. Matt Bralla and the guys put 149 Yellowtail on the boat.

The water at the Coronado Islands has gotten cold and dirty. We have spent the last 2 days enjoying some excellent bottom fishing in 200-400 ft of water. We are keeping tabs on everything in our range. For all you bottom fishing lovers. Come out soon. Conditions are changing fast and as soon as we feel there is a good chance of consistently catching gamefish. The rockfish will go on the back burner again.

Had a nice day of fishing today. Great weather and conditions. We had to work hard for our Wahoo and Yellowtail but the ones we did land were very nice grade. Hopefully the Yellows bite a little in the dark. Wish us luck! Also we have a 1.5 day trip leaving on July 20th that still has openings, jump on it to try your shot at some quality local Bluefin! We caught 60-100lb Bluefin Tuna along with some school sized Yellow fin and Yellowtail on our father’s day 2 day.

Conditions seem to be improving for Bluefin Tuna fishing within the past couple days. The fish are more willing to bite for those who are willing to put their time in.

40, 50, even 60lb test mono,  floro carbon, with a designer 1/0 hook has been the go to outfit size for the grade of tuna around. However even though the 60-100 lb fish is the main size we have been seeing, the 100-200lb fish are in the area as well.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 09-08-2019 What a sweet ride down we've had beautiful weather! Made good speed and had a nice early arrival this morning into the fishing grounds. Fishing started off tough. Actually it was brutal! You would catch and release 30 skipjack just to catch one keeper yellowfin tuna. We would catch a Wahoo here and there to spice things up but it just wasn't working. Finally after 10 hours of get in all jacked up, AKA skipjack, Things started going our way. It was like somebody flipped a switch! For the next four hours we had a very consistent bite on quality yellowfin tuna ,right into the dark. Our weather stayed great all day and were going to try our luck here again tomorrow. The Polaris Supreme Crew!
