texas city Fishing Report 2024

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with an announcement. We have finished our boat work and will be running our first trip on Saturday, February 3rd. We will be fishing the Coronado Islands. However, we will be looking around and will be targeting the best opportunities. During the beginning of the fishing season it is very important to make an advanced reservation. Yesterday we went out with 26 anglers. Final fish count for our day was 2 lingcod 2 sheephead 75 red rockcod and full Mexican limits of rockfish. Our next trip is Sunday February 10. Call Seaforth Sportfishing at 619-224-3383 for reservations.

Well what the heck! I just went to go get some pictures to post on our wrap up of Tom Chaparros six-day trip! Yes that's right it was a six-day trip not a five! And next year it is going to be a seven-day trip! If you care to join Tom and his gang give Susan a call! He limits his trip to only 18 anglers. Anyways I went to go get some pictures out of our files and all we had was pizza! And then I realized the only slow day of fishing we had out of six days was the day we made pizza! Thus the only day we had time to take pictures! We were too busy gaffing 18 to 22 pound average yellowtail and or 15 To 16 pound average yellowfin tuna! Our fishing was absolutely fantastic. The yellowtail fishing was excellent surface iron and fly line sardine as well was the yellowfin tuna fishing. A iron throwers paradise. One thing I should point out about Tom's trip as well as every trip we've had so far this year is that our weather has been absolutely superb! I think maybe we've only had two choppy days in the last 33. Tom Chaparros seven day trip next year 2018 will be departing on Wednesday August 1 and arriving Wednesday, August 8. After getting to see what great fishing we could get into stretching the trip 1 day and seeing some of the other boats on longer trips getting a shot at the Wahoo it got everyone to want to extend the trip.  We had a slow day today.  The morning seemed promising.  We caught a little but we saw a whole lot.  If just one of those schools we saw this morning wanted to bite a little we would of had a great day.  That seems to be the deal this year though.  Today, we hit the wrong schools.  We caught about 20 ish this morning from 30-50 pounds.  The afternoon stunk.  We ran in to where we finished up last night and it was muerto.  We ended up in an area late that had mucho fish but unfortunately they were all small.  We didn't even try them.  It wasn't worth wasting our precious sardine for. 

 The good news about not catching much fish this afternoon is we still have some of a tank of sardine left to fish with this morning.  It's 4:00 AM as I write this and we just finished up with our attempt at bait making.  We caught plenty of bait, but it wasn't a good size for the tuna that's out here so we're going to try and make some lemonade here.  We're going to take our big spanish mackerel and take it to where the 150+ pound bluefin live.  We'll do this after we run out of sardine this morning.  No one has tried that cow BF with a couple tanks of spanish yet.  Maybe that's the key to it all.

 The weather remains great.  We had a few hours this afternoon where things were getting interesting.  We had a descently strong wind out of the southeast and with it came some rain.  It wasn't all that neat but it didn't last long.  Things went back to butter.  Nice.
       

POLARIS SUPREME TRIP REPORT 09-18-2020 Nice morning fishing 18 to 22 lb. Yellowtail in more great weather. We ended our fishing part of the trip just before lunch and will be traveling home all day tomorrow. The Polaris Supreme Crew!

Oct. 13

Well we struck out on the bluefin today. It wasn't a called third strike, I mean we went down swinging but they definitely beat us today. We saw one good school in the dark hours of the a.m. that didn't stick and then found one deal that didn't react all that bitchen after daylight. We only landed five but they were beautiful fish. 35-50 pounders. Our afternoon was spent traveling down. We left that zone after lunch because we didn't have high hopes for the afternoon based on what we and the other boats had seen.

Our weather was good today. Cold, but not a whole lot of wind. We're going to be fishing for yellowfin tuna tomorrow at first light. They'll be a few of us looking around there so hopefully we get them located early.

 

In other news Mark tried to tell me that Steve Nash was as tall as he was and I called him out on it, bet him 20 dollars in which he agreed upon, and then I had to call my lovely wife to get her to Google it. I was right, he's 6'3" and now I'm 20 dollars richer. Here's the thing though, I spent almost 20 dollars in the phone call to win that bet so was it worth it? Absolutely. I would gladly spend more money then I'd win against Mark, he's fat, just to prove my point and make him 20 dollars less rich.

 It was raining wahoo around the Polaris Supreme today.  It wasn't raining wahoo on the Polaris Supreme, just around it.  We scratched out a good day though.  I told myself if we caught 40 wahoo today, it would be worth the run down here.  We caught 46.  It felt like we should of had 200, and with all the fish we lost today, that might not be an exaggeration.  We're just 5 shy of 100 for the trip.  If you add up all the halves and heads we wound in today, we might have a hundred.  The sharks were really bad out here today.  You wouldn't have wanted to go for a swim.  I say it was raining wahoo today because they were flying out of the water most everywhere you looked chasing flying fish and such.  It was an awesome sight to see.  I have never seen anything like it in my 15 years of long ranging. 

 We've really put together a very nice trip so far.  I wouldn't mind a little more tuna and some yellowtail.  We've left the stones and we're now headed up for the remainder of the trip.  We're going to check out the baja coast tomorrow in search of all the species and get in position for the rest of the trip as well.
     

Here is a good look at one of today’s schools doing its best to look like a ball of bait. Our Evringham bros. sardines were too much for them to handle and the frenzy was on. 75 yellowtail. 25 calico bass. 23 Barracuda. Very good surface action.
