Polaris Supreme docked at Fisherman's Landing July 24 following a five-day, 24-passenger charter with owner-skipper Tommy Rothery, who was credited by other skippers with finding a new area of albacore to the west of the previous location. Brad Donnelly of San Clemente won first place on the Tuna Trackers trip, for a 52-pound yellowfin. He said he took it with a sardine on a 3/0 Eagle Claw hook and 40-pound Soft Steel line. He used a Penn 4/0 reel and a Seeker 6465 H rod. Mike O'Donnell of Palmdale was second, for a 45-pound albacore. Jason Severen of Petaluma tied with Tom Donnelly of San Clemente for third place. Each had a 42-pound albacore.

 Here we go again.  One last short trip of the year.  My last trip as the captain.  El Capitan, Master, number 1,el jefe, the chief...  After this one Tommy comes out for 15 days.  You'll still get my blogs though because I'll be here.  Right now though I'm thinking about this trip right here that we're on right now.  I'm feeling some dorado and tuna tomorrow.  I'm hoping we get it done early and I have the problem of figuring out, OK, what next?  That would be real nice.  We'll see.  I have her on course and I'm feeling prime rib tonight.  I don't think I've eaten it in 2 years out here but tonight might be the night.  I haven't been very healthy lately so what's one more drink on the Titanic right?
       
 

Capt Ryan checked in from the San Diego to report that they finished yesterday's trip with 111 Yellowtail. We got a lot on the yoyo iron as well as the surface iron and flylined baits. Make sure you bring all your Yellowtail gear to be prepared, a 40 lb rig, a 25 lb bait rod and a surface iron rod. We are online everyday and the weather looks good for the next few days, give the landing a call at 619-224-3383 and make your reservations.

Good evening everyone, This morning started early with most anglers fishing a dropper loop before grey light. Fishing was slow with a handful of quality 20 pound class yellowtail being caught with a few nice sized grouper coming over the rail. As the morning progressed, fishing started to pick up with anglers hooking fish on flylined baits, the dropper loop, as well as the sliding sinker rig. A couple of these fish were unwilling to leave their rock homes, and were able to wrap the lines in some of the jagged bottom structure before breaking off. As the sun rose in the sky, we were able to pick off a couple more of these fish before we found the right school. A little before noon, we settled into a school of fish that wanted too bite a little bit better. We were able to keep these fish around the boat for the rest of the day, and would hook a handful at a time as they bit in flurries from 2-7 fish at once. Majority of these yellowtail were in the 20-25 pound class and came off the flylined sardine or mackerel. One 50lb class grouper made its way over the rail which fell victim to a sardine flylined on 30 pound test. With the day winding down, we decided to point the boat toward the kelp zone in order to give ourselves an early shot at some more fish in the morning. The Apollo has been fishing everyday now. They had great rockfishing today. Unfortunately, they did not catch any White Seabass. But they have been getting some. Listen to JJ's daily report. Next OPEN PARTY trip is April 10th.

We stopped and fished briefly on some yellowtail this afternoon and had some great action. We then continued on traveling in smooth weather. However, if we were going the other way it would be snotty and rough. We had a tender cooked shaved beef with a Burgundy sauce, baby snow peas and roasted potatoes for dinner. Still rolling down to Alijos, and should be fishing by mid-morning.

Shortly after arriving on the grounds we located a small school of yellowtail and caught 2. We then proceeded to drive around for 2 hours and never found another school. A couple of rockfish stops in the afternoon assured all 30 of our passengers will be eating fresh fish.

Nice grade of Yellowtail on kelps, with really good sign of Tuna that were hard to catch. Also more Dorado showing on kelps, but the 2 we hooked, found their freedom.
