Polaris Supreme Trip Update

After yesterday's tough day the pressure was on to find a school. Upon entering the warm water pocket it wasn't but a few minutes until Tommy came across a school and the lines went out. The bite started out slow then became consistent on those larger yellowfin. After a while the bluefin filled in and the bite matured into a plunker lasting through lunch. Several dorado added color to the mix and then it was trolling lines out as we went searching for another school. Single strikes on tuna and dorado was all we could produce for the rest of the day. These tuna are coming up gorged on small squid, so they must be feeding down deep and occasionally popping up to the surface. Tomorrow it looks like the weather will be on our side, and perhaps the fish gods will smile on us as well.

Happy fourth of July! Well things didn't improve much, just a handful or so, so we are heading back up to finish off our excellent albacore trip with some local fishing. We will be at the dock Thursday morning at 7:30.

Aug 16
    We started our morning off again in the local bluefin zone.  Things felt a little better.  There were only about half the boats that were there the day before.  It had a much less claustrophobic feel to it.  Unfortunately the bluefin didn't seem to care.  It was on the slow side.  In 4 hours we managed 9 of them with 20 yellowfin to go along with them.  We left for the day and looked around for schools.  We scratched here and there throughout the day.  We had some reports of spots of 100+ pounders up so we made it there for the evening hit but never found a school of those.  We did catch some nice grade yellowfin though so with those and the sign of the 100 + pounders we know where we're starting tomorrow.  But first things first, we're going to run into the beach and try for bait tonight and as I write this we just finished up and we're headed back out with a couple tanks of mackerel and a couple tanks of sardine that we still have for ammo.

First of all I'd like to say that I'm aware I spelled whine wrong yesterday. As soon as I hit send I realised it so don't mention it. Secondly I'm going to let Mark write the report tonight so here we go. Enjoy.

Nevermind that. Mark refused. Anyways, we departed today on the old Bob Vance 5 day trip. PLenty of food, fuel, bait, passengers, crew, water, tackle and whatever else we use out here on board. We had a nice lunch, nap and seminar today and will be looking for tuna first light and before in the dark. Dinner was spectacular as always with the usual prime rib and sides. I also enjoyed a delicous mango sorbet with some kind of strawberry glaze sauce stuff on it also topped with fresh strawberries. Write to you tomorrow. See you later.

Polaris Supreme Report 07-22-2016 Happy Friday everyone! We elected to stay the night at the same place as yesterday, in hopes of another action packed day of yellowtail fishing . We got the anchor down and started fishing around 5:30, to stage ourselves for the morning hit. As the misty morning came upon us we began to hook some nice yellowtail. We were finally starting to hit our stride when the fish quit biting. As the sky cleared it seemed as the yellows did too. We tried several spots that amounted to a slow pick throughout the day. Unfortunately we finished off the day without the wall to wall action yellowtail hit we were hoping for. However we still scratched up some quality fish. We feel very fortunate to have had such a great day of fishing yesterday. After fishing hard into the early afternoon we finally set a course for Point Loma to and wrap up this great 5 day trip. We have smooth sailing for the ride up and are looking at 7:00 am at the dock. We currently have a four day online departing August 2nd that still has a couple openings. Today we saw yellowtail, dorado, yellowfin and bluefin of all sizes. Unfortunately we were only able to catch 1 yellowtail. Hopeful for tomorrow. The wise angler would bring an assortment of setups from 20-60 lb.

Well we just traveled all day heading toward the fishing grounds. The passengers worked on preparing their gear and relaxed. We dined on Chicken ala King in puff pastry, grilled zucchini, and saut?©ed carrots for lunch. And for dinner we had an excellent veal shank in a caper sauce with roasted potatoes, baked parmesan tomatoes and salad bar. Thanks for checking in.
