oak island Fishing Report 2024

Good evening everyone, Today we rolled up the beach on our last day of our A.H.I 8 day trip. The charter masters put together an amazing award ceremony with shirts, prizes, and trophies. This was the perfect way to end the trip along with a very nice dinner from chef Mike. Talk about next years trip was already in progress, and these anglers cant't wait to be back. Next year will mark their 25th A.H.I charter. This just goes to show the groups organization and passion for being on the water. This was a very well rounded trip with everything you could ask for, great weather, good fishing and most importantly, everyone had a great time with us. Nice 2018 Guadalupe Yellowfin.

Official weight of this beauty is 217.5 lbs. sinker rig and 60 lb. To catch a fish like this on a local boat without trolling is simply amazing. Congrats to the best crew I have ever had.

Where'd they go?? We got a few wahoo today, but nothing like yesterday. Our day consisted of scratching away at yellowfin, yellowtail, pargo, dorado, and wahoo on some different spots. Don't get me wrong. It was not a bad day fishing, just not like yesterday. Our weather is still good. Actually it's too hot, the water is 83 degrees. Not bad for the fish, but warm for us. Tomorrow we will be off shore kelping for wahoo, dorado and tuna until it's time to head home and wind up this fantastic trip. It's going to be a great fall season. Thanks for checking in.  Today we looked at an awful lot of schools, non biting unfortunately. I heard Tommy throw out a number and I'll share it with you. 17. That's the number of schools we stopped on today. We caught 2 bluefin all day. A 65 pounder and an 80 pounder or so. So that's our day in a nutshell. I think most of you all have been there before. We're headed in. I'll be taking the boat out tomorrow for 9 days.
 

20 passangers, 16 Yellowtail, 46 Bonito, 100 Rockfish. It’s not easy. But if you are willing to grind the full size yo-yo lure on every stop you may just have a very good day.

Tommy Rothery docked his Polaris Supreme at Fisherman's Landing August 22 after the season's best tuna trip to Guadalupe Island. There were 24 anglers aboard the first Dan Heil Memorial trip. "I felt like he was there with us," said son and chartermaster Ron Heil. "He would have really enjoyed this trip." Tuna fishing was excellent for the group, so much so that Rothery was able to give the spot up to Art Taylor and the Searcher. "We had plenty of tuna," said Tom, "all we needed. The sharks got some of them." Steve Patterson of Grants Pass won first place for a 103-pound yellowfin. "My best tuna ever," he said. Patterson used a sardine on a 4/0 ringed Gorilla hook tied to 40-pound P-Line and 65-pound Izorline Spectra backing, on an Avet LX reel and a Rogue Rod of seven feet. "He slaughtered me," added Patterson. "I couldn't get my new rod off the rail. He tore up the cork and the diamond wrap." Don Pieper of Arroyo Grande was second for a 72.6-pounder, and Buddy Bales of Spokane, WA won third place, for a 72.2-pound yellowfin tuna. The season's 12th wahoo from Guadalupe was included in the catch.
