POLARIS SUPREME TRIP REPORT 09-14-2020 Great weather today again. We had good Wahoo and Grouper fishing. Got to go Dorado biting. Good Day on the Water. The Polaris Supreme Crew!

Captain Ryan called in late last night to report fantastic fishing conditions on the Yellowtail at the Coronado Islands. The fishing were biting live bait. Ryan recommends 25 pound mono with a flurocarbon leader. The fishing are in the 20 to 25 pound class. They were biting really good. Come on down and fish on the San Diego. July 23
  Today was an enjoyable day out here in the old west.  We didn't catch much fish, but we still had a good time.  I take that back, we didn't keep much fish.  We started this morning in a little zone, and it was full speed jiggin um up.  Stop and go, stop and go, stop and go.  Mostly small yellowfin unfortunately..  There was a sprinkling of good ones in the mix along with some nice yellowtaiil, and it sort of felt like any minute we'd find that school of good ones, but it also kind of felt like we were in the wrong zone at the same time.  Funny how that works.

  By mid morning we were out of there.  We made a move up to the next break.  The fishing wasn't very good for us up there, but the weather all day was excellent, and when you have a boat full of friends aboard, you can't miss.  We did see some cool wild life.  There was a pod of, must of been 10 not sure what kind of whales that swam across the bow.  Nobody else saw, but I saw all of them at once breeching when they were about a mile or so off.  We also ran across a couple pods of Orcas too.  With these we cruised for a while along side of them and checked out the Shamus of the wild.  It was some good viewing let me tell you.

  About an hour before dark, only 7 miles away, a boat got on a school of the better grade tuna and caught a bunch.  Unfortunately for us, we didn't connect before dark more than a half dozen of these but we know where to be tomorrow and we're confident we'll get a bunch.

I have a little web-site update for you. We have put all of our photos from the past years, into albums on the photo page. As you will see they are categorized by year first, then the date of the trip, then the group. In the past they have all been grouped together in one big mess. Hopefully this will help you find the trip you were on in the past years. Also you will be able to more easily create your own photo albums for the trips you were on. A new update on offshore fishing. Last weekend's 2-day trip was a huge success targeting the big bluefin. Drew and the boys got the anglers into the fish at 150 miles and had a five hour long drift where they hooked over fifty 65-75 pound bluefin! When the dust settled they had 23 of these beauties on deck. They also picked up seven smaller grade bluefin and a few of the small yellows. For those of you going out on upcoming trips you defiantly need the usual 50 lb. 2-speed reel. Some of the guys also had 40 lb. 2-speeds and it was the true money maker for this bigger fish. It was the best of both worlds having lighter line that got bit better and the 2-speed that really let then put the  pressure on the fish after the initial run. So put one in your bag.

Also yesterday fish popped up in good volume closer to home at 70-100 miles. We are watching this to see how this develops for the shorter trips. Hopefully we won't have to make the 120-150 mile run. Hi friends. Yellowtail fishing was off the hook this morning -- or, on the hook, depending on which way you look at it. Fifteen to twenty-eight pound fish just kept coming over the rail and we also had a few flatheads as well. It was all you could've wanted on fly-lined sardines, yo-yo jigs, and surface jigs too but we only took a few boxes to break up the morning and from there, we ventured offshore with the hopes of finding something floating for dorado and wahoo.

Let me tell you, trying to locate kelps in eighty degree water is a difficult task and although we did get lucky and found a couple scraps, they weren't holding all that much. However, we did troll up a few legitimate ball-slappers, a marlin (healthy release), and one really nice wahoo at dusk caught by Mike Henry. His wahoo looks to be in the fifty to sixty pound range and he coaxed that fat skinny into latching onto a purple and black Marauder. Good going, Mike.

For tomorrow, we'll be fishing for all kinds of species but our main target is wahoo. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Our weather is just splendid and the all-day bronze-a-thon continues. I'm starting to look like Hulk Hogan out here. Supreme guns. Later.

Capt Mike Pritchard just called in an on the water report from the Tribute, as of 8am this morning we have 40 Bluefin Tuna on the deck from 30 - 40 pounds. If you want in on this action bring your 30 pound yo-yo jis set ups, we also have sardines on the boat. we have room on out 1.5 day trip leaving tomorrow night, give Seaforth Landing a call at 619-224-3383 to get on board.
