mormon lake Fishing Report 2024

Hello Everyone, Today we spent the day looking for kelps. The weather was windy with a lot of white caps. Through the chop we managed to find some kelps holding some Dorado. Never found the kelp with the mother load, but we were still able to scrape together some fish. Although choppy weather, the anglers still managed to have a great time during their annual Solex contracting 1.5 day charter. We look forward to next year guy! Back out for 2 days tomorrow. After 6 months of fishing in the deep end it was nice to shut the main engines off and enjoy the world famous Coronado Islands. I have always felt that it takes 3 days or 3 really good boats to give the islands a proper check. Today was day one of putting the puzzle together. 1 yellowtail, plenty of bonito and rockfish. A 40 lb rod, a few yoyo jigs and an assortment of torpedo sinkers.

Capt. Mike Pritchard called from the Tribute with this update. "Just outstanding fishing on those Yellowtail. We are done, full boat limits for our 31 passengers. Very, very good kelp fishing here. Now we'll go looking for some Tuna, hopefully we'll find some.

Friday 2-day trip July 6

Good Morning Anglers!

I've been keeping in touch with Art on the Searcher the last three days. He's been fishing bluefin at 160 miles on his four day trip with great success! Sunday with over 100 bluefin. Monday he had 55 bluefin. That day another boat fished with him traveling down and got 80 bluefin. This morning at 8:00 the Searcher already had 15 bluefin.

The grade of this fish is 20-30 lbs. and occasionally somebody gets on the 90 lb. grade. So don't forget a 50lb. 2-speed reel for that class.

We offer free loaner gear if you need it. Their weather has been good.

The weather forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is 5-10 knots. You can follow the weather on Passageweather.com. Also a big bonus on Saturday will be our Sportfishing Association spotter plane to put us on kelps and schools of bluefin. The *POLARIS SUPREME* two day trip departing this Friday at 1pm in the afternoon is set up to target this fish at that distance. We will be able to fish Saturday from the crack, 5am till dark, 8pm. Thus having a full day in this area and returning at 11am on Sunday.

Today was better fishing. It was still a grind but we were able to get some real trophies for our last day. Pictured here we have Mic with his beautiful Yellowfin. Also we have Jim Holman and Jon Collins with their big fish of the trip! Nice Job guys!

 We had a slow day today.  The morning seemed promising.  We caught a little but we saw a whole lot.  If just one of those schools we saw this morning wanted to bite a little we would of had a great day.  That seems to be the deal this year though.  Today, we hit the wrong schools.  We caught about 20 ish this morning from 30-50 pounds.  The afternoon stunk.  We ran in to where we finished up last night and it was muerto.  We ended up in an area late that had mucho fish but unfortunately they were all small.  We didn't even try them.  It wasn't worth wasting our precious sardine for. 

 The good news about not catching much fish this afternoon is we still have some of a tank of sardine left to fish with this morning.  It's 4:00 AM as I write this and we just finished up with our attempt at bait making.  We caught plenty of bait, but it wasn't a good size for the tuna that's out here so we're going to try and make some lemonade here.  We're going to take our big spanish mackerel and take it to where the 150+ pound bluefin live.  We'll do this after we run out of sardine this morning.  No one has tried that cow BF with a couple tanks of spanish yet.  Maybe that's the key to it all.

 The weather remains great.  We had a few hours this afternoon where things were getting interesting.  We had a descently strong wind out of the southeast and with it came some rain.  It wasn't all that neat but it didn't last long.  Things went back to butter.  Nice.
