The Endeavor out of Ventura Harbor Sportfishing checked in with us after returning from an Overnight trip with 26 anglers.

    Judging by how our trip has been so far, if you would have told me we would have 6 bluefin as of 1:00 this afternoon I wouldn't have believed you.  But sure enough, those darn bluefins were laughing at us.  We saw plenty of them but they didn't give two you know whats about us.  Our buddy Brian on the Spirit Of Adventure called us and told us he was seeing the 30-50 pound grade around where he was so we took a little ride down there.  It wasn't really biting that well until we got there.  Again our timing is on.  For the next few hours it was game on.  It actually took a while to get them to bite but during the best of it I couldn't get the balloon rigs out fast enough.  They were snapping!!  We ended up with a couple rounds of the 30-50 pounders with one going around 90 pounds and we also got a handful of 30-35 pound yellowfin there as well.  

    After it dried up we went looking for another.  We found several schools but none that would hang around and bite our baits.  Around 6:30 we bumped into another school that stuck and we picked up 21 more of those beauts.  And now we drift and do it again tomorrow.  

    The chefs are getting better and better at there sushi spread.  This afternoon it was terrific and I'm pretty sure I heard it's veal chops for dinner tonight.  Sweet dreams.
                                

 

Captain Mike Pritchard called in this afternoon with an update on the fishing conditions for the Tribute. We now have US limits of Yellowfin Tuna a total of 325 and 6 Bluefin Tuna. Retired LA motorcycle officer Joe Beck served as chartermaster aboard the Polaris Supreme, and came back June 16 with the best yellowtail of the boat's five-day visit to Cedros/Benitos. Owner Tom Rothery skippered the trip, and docked his rig at Fisherman's Landing.

Beck got a 36-pound yellowtail with a sardine bait, and won first place. Gene Lujan of Salinas won second place for a 35.4-pound yellow, and Karen Jackson of Acton tied with Tom Mortenson of LaVerne for third place. Both had 32.6-pound yellowtail. Scott Chapman of Mira Loma caught a 41.2-pound halibut, a thick, sand-colored flatfish.

Today we had some decent Tuna and Wahoo fishing. It was for sure a grind but we were able to capitalize on a few shots on both Tuna and Wahoo. The Wahoo were good grade and really keyed in on the mackerel we caught last night. So it was as good thing we put in the work in to catch them! The shot at tuna yielded a great grade of fish . 20-40 lbers. The only downside is that they quit biting when the current died. Tomorrow we will try for wahoo and Dorado on kelps wish us luck ! As the temps drop, we are finding the bottom biters are biting at our local spots. Lingcod and Reds with a mix of other great tasting fish. We have been seeing Yellowtail on a daily basis as well. 

We are going to run an open party limited load trip on Sunday March 2nd. The trip will cost $130 and will depart at 9pm on the night of the 1st. If you are interested in going we will be looking for squid and targeting seabass in the morning before trying to fill our limits with tasty rockfish. Capt Ryan checked in from the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing, today they went out on a 3/4 day trip with 48 anglers. We ended the day with 39 Yellowtail, the water temperature cooled a little with this front we had. The temperature when we arrived was about 61.5 degrees, as the day went on the temperature warmed up nicely and was 65 degrees as we headed home. We saw some really nice schools of fish today and it should only improve as the weekend gets here, they seem a little lethargic right now. But as they adjust the fishing should only get better. Make sure to bring a yoyo rig, flyline rig and a surface iron rig, come on down and get in on this action. We are fishing everyday with a departure time of 5:30 am.
