"It was really good fishing wahoo at the bank," said Rothery at the sales. "We stayed there two days and then went in to the southern banks where the big fish were." All the big fish (there were 13 tuna over 200 pounds weighed on the certified scales at Fisherman's) came from the southern banks. There were just as many from 100 to 200 pounds as there were cows, and those were found in both spots. "The Baja tuna were real steady biters," said Rothery. "There were lots of β€šΠ”Ρ‚em around, we could see β€šΠ”Ρ‚em at the surface and on the meter most of the time." Research biologist Chugey Sepulveda got the big one, related his pal and fellow biologist Scott ("Scootch") Aalbers of San Diego. Chugey wasn't able to be at the weigh-in. The fish weighed 306.2 pounds. Chugey had two more cows, at 220 and 201 pounds. "Scootch" said Chugey got the big one and the others on one of the boat's heavy rigs and the kite. He used two sardines on 6/0 Mustad 7691 hooks, tied to 130-pound P-Line and 130-pound Izorline Spectra, on a Tiagra 50 W reel and a Calstar 655 XXH rod. "He got it on the next to the last day," said Scootch, "about four p.m. He fought it for an hour and 15 minutes, and it wrapped him around the anchor line about 15 times. The crew helped out a lot with the fork." Tom Bass of Newport Beach won second place for a 274.8-pound tuna. He also had a 232 and a 206-pound yellowfin. Tom said he got his fish on a sardine and an 8/0 Eagle Claw hook, pm 100-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon leader of 15 feet, tied to 130-pound Izor Spectra on a Tiagra 50 reel and a Calstar 6460 XXH rod. Hack Bernstein of Valencia bagged a 269.6-pounder. He fished a sardine on an 8/0 Eagle Claw hook tied to 130-pound P-Line and 130-pound Izor Spectra on a boat rig: Tiagra 50 reel and a Calstar 655 XXH rod. Pat Jaeger of Bishop posed with his daughter Maggie, three, and the 268-pound tuna he got with a double sardine rig on the kite. He said he used 100-pound P-Line and 130-pound Izor Spectra on a Penn 50 W reel and a Baja Boomer rod. Ryan Gillette of Orange was another who used a double trouble sardine rig on the boat's rod and reel to take a 246-pounder. Robert Kalatschan found a brace of cows, at 226 and 213 pounds. There were two more cows that appeared at the scales without tags, said Susan Rothery. One weighed 214 pounds and the other went 202.

Nov. 12

Today was spent fishing our way north. We started in the dark where passenger Matty hooked the mystery fish that spooled him. We then headed north and found ourselves on the bottom end of the ridge where we got the last passenger who didn't have a wahoo a nice one. Now everyone on board has at least one skin. There was a nice school of nice yellowfin there but we couldn't get one of them to bite. Conditions were good, they just wouldn't hit. We then headed north. The next spot produced another nice wahoo but lacked anything else to go with it so we headed north. Right when the sun was going down and after it was down we hit a school of yellowfin that bit until dinner. We tried a couple more spots after dinner for nothing and are now headed north in good weather. All that northerly travel today left us some time to fish tomorrow and it will be spent trying for more wahoo and some yellowtail fishing. Yellowtail is the one species we don't have a lot of this trip so hopefully we'll use a few tags on those tomorrow.

Hello Everyone, The weather was pretty rough last night and is still pretty choppy today. It does not look like we will have time to fish today. Yesterday fishing was so good, we were able to enjoy the fruits of our labors with some freshly filleted yellowtail for today's lunch. 20- 30 lb fresh yellowtail for lunch, doesn't get much better than that! We will be in San Diego tomorrow bright and early tomorrow morning. Will report again then, Team Supreme

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-17-2019 Great day fishing today on the yellowfin tuna. Over half the fish were 25 to 35 pounds. We also picked up quite a few Wahoo in the mix as well as one beautiful grouper. Definitely a fun day all away around. Our weather was absolutely beautiful except for about a four hour window mid day where the wind picked up pretty good and we got some rain. Otherwise a great day! Doing this again tomorrow. The Polaris supreme crew!

Hello Everyone, Today we had a great day of fishing on 20-40 lb Bluefin and Yellowfin Tuna. With a few 70 lbers mixed in. The style is awesome, long drifts keeping 1-4 going for hours at a time. We are loving the grade of the fish and that they are biting consistently. We are in tomorrow and leave on an 8 day. It will be nice fishing south for a nice change of scenery. Will Report again tomorrow, Team Supreme

November 24, 2023 florida chevy insider Fishing Report

Good evening everyone and thanks for checking in. So after a couple of days if traveling, rigging and getting done with all of the final touches on the gear, we finally arrived at the fishing grounds. The group was definitely eager to get some lines in the water. Our primary target was wahoo to get things started. The area we first started trolling has been notoriously productive over the past few weeks, so we thought that was a great starting point. Not long after we got the trollers back behind the boat, we did get a jig strike. We put a few on the boat that strike, but after that, they didn't really want to get on us so we decided to continue on to other spots. A number of the other areas we looked at seemed to carry the same trend, just not having conditions conducive to catching a wahoo or yellowfin tuna. A major factor in having current, you must have current to catch fish. The beauty of fishing this area though, is having a large number of spots to look at throughout the day. We continued down the line looking, trolling and stopping, but it seemed to be just a little bit of an off day. That being said, we'll make a little over night move and start it all over tomorrow with high hopes. Thanks for checking in and we'll be back tomorrows update. Team Supreme
