The San Diego checked in tonight with an update from Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. Today we had 26 anglers catch 130 Yellowtail (limits). The Yellowtail were kelp grade. We did see the big Bluefin today but we were unable to hook any!

Viva variety! We started the day off with some excellent Yellowtail fishing. Mixed grade fish from 8 lbs to 35 lbs. The majority was released but we were able to pull some nice grade fish aboard. Weather is great and conditions are good down here. Will report again tomorrow, Team Supreme

Great surface action today, hooked 8 with limited time, ending with 5 nice Tuna. 

Drew Henderson docked Polaris Supreme July 5 after a five-day trip with 23 anglers. His fishermen had plenty of albacore, but bluefin swept the jackpot spots. "What a great day of fishing," wrote Drew July 2. "Just couldn't be better. Everyone has had their fill of albacore so we are heading off to do some Island fishing for some of those big yellowtail. We should be there by daybreak tomorrow. Weather is fantastic."
At the dock, Drew said, "We got limits of albacore. Benitos has a lot of fish, but they're not biting very well, and the seals are. Yesterday afternoon we had a three-hour bite. The cedar plug is getting a lot of troll fish, ans so is my favorite, the ‚Дтscreamin' pink,' skirted jig." Ray Mercieca of Arcadia won first place for a 38-pound bluefin. He said he bagged it with a sardine on a 3/0 Mustad 91450 hook, 30-pound P-Line, a Penn 950 SS spinning reel and a Daiwa seven-foot spinning rod. Greg Culbert of Ojai was second, for a 36-pound bluefin and Bob Norman of Green Valley, AZ was third, for a 32-pound bluefin tuna.

The tuna fishing offshore today was a bust. It shows how unpredictable tuna fishing can be on a day to day, week to week basis. We've told you before not to book based on the latest fishing reports and usually it's when fishing has been slow and all of a sudden busts out wide open. In this case it is the exact opposite. Yesterday there was some stellar fishing for a boat in an area and this morning all 9 of us boats were up at 4 in the morning drooling with anticipation of a wide open day soon coming. Unfortunately it never came and a couple hours after day light every boat picked a different direction and searched for where the fish swam off to. They were not found most likely because they didn't move, they were just down today. They could very well be in the biting mode tomorrow and it wouldn't surprise me a bit. It wasn't a total loss today. I mean we weren't skunked or anything like that but it just wasn't near what was advertised.

My point is if you're on any upcoming trips todays report means nothing to what is in store for your trip. Like Forest says, fishings like a box of chocolates.

Well what the heck! I just went to go get some pictures to post on our wrap up of Tom Chaparros six-day trip! Yes that's right it was a six-day trip not a five! And next year it is going to be a seven-day trip! If you care to join Tom and his gang give Susan a call! He limits his trip to only 18 anglers. Anyways I went to go get some pictures out of our files and all we had was pizza! And then I realized the only slow day of fishing we had out of six days was the day we made pizza! Thus the only day we had time to take pictures! We were too busy gaffing 18 to 22 pound average yellowtail and or 15 To 16 pound average yellowfin tuna! Our fishing was absolutely fantastic. The yellowtail fishing was excellent surface iron and fly line sardine as well was the yellowfin tuna fishing. A iron throwers paradise. One thing I should point out about Tom's trip as well as every trip we've had so far this year is that our weather has been absolutely superb! I think maybe we've only had two choppy days in the last 33. Tom Chaparros seven day trip next year 2018 will be departing on Wednesday August 1 and arriving Wednesday, August 8. After getting to see what great fishing we could get into stretching the trip 1 day and seeing some of the other boats on longer trips getting a shot at the Wahoo it got everyone to want to extend the trip. Today was tough fishing. We were able to hook and land more fish today and they were all better grade. The fish today were also more eager to eat bigger line and hooks as opposed to the ones yesterday. Because of that we were able to put the wood to them and bring them to the boat quickly. We had some shark casualties but nothing too extreme. In fact the ones that were getting chased by the sharks charged the boat to try and evade them. So as long was we were ready with a gaff and able to steer the fish clear from the propellers and rudders we had some fish that came right in. Overall a tough but fruitful day. Wee will be looking for kelp's tomorrow targeting school sized Tuna and Dorado.
