Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-26-2019 We spent the day looking for Wahoo mostly, but ended up with only a handful. We had absolutely phenomenal Marlon fishing and some pretty fair Dorado fishing throughout the day. The Wahoo has definitely eluded us this trip. Another day of absolutely beautiful weather good food and hanging out with a bunch of good friends. I just noticed that the last two days we only had pictures of Rudy and John. Neither one have been fishing before so there definitely get the lions share of attention as far as photos. Today we mix it up with some of the other guys who have been hanging in the background. We're going to spend tomorrow heading up the line toward San Diego to try to be the Thanksgiving storm or at least part of it. We will definitely be in a day early and all of you leaving on the seven-day on the 30th be down there bright and early at 5 AM. Today we had about 7-10 wahoo and several tuna. Four nice ones around 170 lbs., and some smaller ones (many released) 50-60 lbs. We lost 4 nice ones, 2 thought to be over 200 lbs. The guys are pretty tired putting in 36 hours of fishing time. Most only had 3-4 hours of sleep.

Captain Aliyar Nabi called in this morning with a wrap up report from the Pacifica out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. We just got back this morning from our 1.5 day trip. The Bluefin Tuna fishing continues to be excellent. We ended up with 52 Bluefin Tuna for our 26 anglers. We had some really nice fish between 150 and 190 pounds. We also caught some in the 12 to 45 pound range. The flat fall fishing at night produced 40 fish.

The Annual SFR charter aboard the Apollo with Captain J.J Gerritsen and crew was a big success !! The Apollo is running out of Sea Landing on beautiful Santa Barbara Harbor, the closest harbor to the outer Channel Islands. Great weather meant an ideal cruise over to San Miguel Island for some of the finest shallow water rockfishing you'll find anywhere. 300 feet down you say, maybe 200, how about 100 feet ? No way. The offshore terrain around San Miguel is so rugged and marked with underwater pinnacles, we spent most of the day fishing in 25 to 90 feet of water. Lighter rigs, jigs, leadheads and swimbaits were the order of the day, and the San Miguel rockfish were in a hungry mood. We started catching fish before daybreak and spent the rest on the trip hauling up huge reds, chuckles and lings, all sporting some of the most vibrant colors I've seen on any fish in a long time. Awesome day!! We limited out on huge rockfish, slammed about 50-60 grumpy whitefish, 5-6 huge goats and 16 or so pre-historic looking lings before calling it a trip. Epic day !!!! The jackpot was a nail biter as Shawn Suhr's huge lingcod and Art Moralez's giant goat battled to a near dead heat. Captain J.J needed to come down and settle the score, with the final vote went going to Shawn's 12-13 pound ling. Great job Shawn. Captain J.J and his crew did an awesome job as always and the Apollo is looking as spotless as ever. The Apollo will be in Santa Barbara till around mid May before moving down to Fisherman's Landing in San Diego. Good evening. Another good day for us here on the bountiful Pacific. It started with crewmember Mark singing "When You Wish Upon a Star" in his tone-def, SoCal-hillbilly kind of a way that only Mark can get away with and it didn't stop all day. From the crack of dawn (0530 hours), all the way until after dinner when he began belting out a lovely rendition of Shaggy's "Mr. Boombastic" while bumping SiriusXM 90's on channel 9 at full volume in the wheelhouse. Good times. Anyhow, daily limits of 12-35 lb. yellowfin tuna, fifty-four "boombastic" bluefin tuna, and a handful of dorado to top off a stellar day. We'll be here for one more day looking to finish up our trip with a banger. Damn good fishing and fantastic weather. Whammy.

With that being said, here are a few statistics that I unofficially kept track of throughout our day.

Number of times Patrick accidentally soaked my body from head to toe with the deck hose: once.

How many months that Bill Byler wrongly blamed Dick Emerson for writing profanities on his brand new jigs with a yellow paint pen: eleven. It was Mark and I's doing. We're naughty.

Number of fish Schooler knocked off with the gaff: none. Sonny Jim!

Number of Monster Energy Rehab Green Tea drinks consumed by Drew, Gunny, and myself: umm, I didn't keep an actual count. They're only 20 calories each, so who cares? Bottoms up!

Daily percentage of saturated fat in one slice of tonight's desert, Dulce de Leche cheesecake: 140%...one hundred and forty percent!?!! Wowza!

Yellowfin tuna caught by Herb Yamanaka's jigs he sent us: too many to count. We're going to be millionaires. Prestige Worldwide.

How many people are currently viewing me sing the lyrics "...when I think about you, I touch myself" aloud while typing out tonight's report: none.

July 17
    Our morning started off hot.  We had some very good tailing for about 1 1/2 hours on the 16-22 pound grade.  We managed to get a few fish per rod in that amount of time frame before things went dead around 8:30.  It's OK, we were expecting that.  We stuck with the plan and looked for yellowfin after that and it wasn't long before we connected.  We had 2 good stops and one great stop on the yellowfin tunas and scattered small stops the rest of the day.  They were a bit on the small side but that's what's around here so we fished them.  After that we drove out of the zone to put ourselves in position for tomorrow and didn't catch much the rest of the day.

    We'll be tailing it again tomorrow looking for the bigguns down below first thing in the morning.  The weather this morning was great.  It got a little windy in the afternoon but it was OK.

 It was a slow day out here today for us.  It was a slow day for many.  But of course it depends on who you talk to, some might say it was a great day.  It all depended on which school you found.  Just like it's been, most schools don't produce, but the few lucky ones do.  We didn't find the lucky one.  Our best school was for 20.  But no matter who you ask, it was a slow afternoon today. After lunch, we didn't find a school till after 6:00.  We're due.

 The weather today was awesome.  Again.  We're going to drift out here tonight and try it again tomorrow.  I thought about doing something different, like hunting bluefin, but it hasn't been very good and our plan B., that being San Clemente island is closed tomorrow darnit.  Plus these yellowfin we're catching are just too beautiful.  Such a nice grade.

 One more day.  We're due.  It won't take much more to get 200 of these things for the trip.  200 of these things would be nice.
        

Hello everyone, Today we disembarked on our annual Holeman 10 day trip.It was great to see some familiar faces again. We loaded up on some perfect sardines and were on our way. Pointed south, we spent the day preparing tackle and settling in nicely. Also, the foretasted weather couldn't be any better as we make our two day journey down to the fishing grounds. We plan to finish up our fishing preparation tomorrow. With great company and great food from chef Mike, today was another day in paradise. Will report tomorrow, Team Supreme
