We departed nice and early on Paul Hess's annual 5-day charter. Every year Paul puts together a great group of guys. Most are always repeat customers, but I saw one or two new faces this year.

Everyone is anxious to get out there and get their lines wet. The prospects look good for albacore, yellowtail and yellow fin. Our weather is good for the start and lets hope it stays nice. Thanks for checking in!

Good morning everyone, Today we tried for bear, we were going big or going bust! We had our sights set on these big Bluefin Tuna. The tuna were very particular on what they ate. If you were persistent with a nice lively bait over and over all day long you had a chance at a bite. Bites were few and far between but when if you got picked up it was a big one. We had two bites today and one of them bit our charter master Vernon Burkes bait. He was prepared and ready with the right gear, the right persistence mindset, and capitalized on his opportunity with a large Bluefin Tuna! Today it was nice to have a chance at these fish but we are going to try inshore tomorrow for yellowtail. Wish us luck! Team Supreme

Well what the heck! I just went to go get some pictures to post on our wrap up of Tom Chaparros six-day trip! Yes that's right it was a six-day trip not a five! And next year it is going to be a seven-day trip! If you care to join Tom and his gang give Susan a call! He limits his trip to only 18 anglers. Anyways I went to go get some pictures out of our files and all we had was pizza! And then I realized the only slow day of fishing we had out of six days was the day we made pizza! Thus the only day we had time to take pictures! We were too busy gaffing 18 to 22 pound average yellowtail and or 15 To 16 pound average yellowfin tuna! Our fishing was absolutely fantastic. The yellowtail fishing was excellent surface iron and fly line sardine as well was the yellowfin tuna fishing. A iron throwers paradise. One thing I should point out about Tom's trip as well as every trip we've had so far this year is that our weather has been absolutely superb! I think maybe we've only had two choppy days in the last 33. Tom Chaparros seven day trip next year 2018 will be departing on Wednesday August 1 and arriving Wednesday, August 8. After getting to see what great fishing we could get into stretching the trip 1 day and seeing some of the other boats on longer trips getting a shot at the Wahoo it got everyone to want to extend the trip. Please check with Susan and Tom to see if they have openings. 6 stops worth of picking and scratching accounted for 69 Yellowfin Tuna, 18 Dorado, 57 Skipjack Tuna and 147 Yellowtail. A 20 lb bait rod and a 40 lb bait rod is all you need.

I know this is super short notice but we have a 5 day leaving Sunday morning that has two openings on it.

        I slept in this morning.  Travel day.  I awoke at 5:00 and went straight to the
computer to see if we'll be bluefin fishing tomorrow or yellow-finning up.  Bluefin
it is.  10 knot flags out there all day tomorrow.  Nice.  So we didn't fish at all
today.  No reason to.  We traveled through 4 other boat wakes from yesterday and
they didn't stop the boat so we weren't going to cost us tomorrows fishing time to
try and prove them wrong.  I trust our code boats.  The weather traveling up has
been ideal all day long.  The passengers did what they do, movies, books, and
relaxation while the crew took it easy and did some chores at a reasonable pace.
We did a lot of organizing of things.  We went through crates and boxes and nuts
and washers and bolts and things like that and just made sense of it all.  The crew
even got around to detailing our beautiful teak rails.

        The bluefin reports sounded good today so we're excited about getting up there for
a couple of days to finish up the trip.  We'll either spend 2 days blue-finning or
we'll do 1 day here and go get our yellowfin on for the last day.  I'm not sure.
That's what's so exciting about it all!
I may not sleep well tonight I'm so excited.  Maybe it's because the 1.5 hour after
lunch nap I took and/or all the coffee I've drunken since then.  Not because I'm
tired, I just love coffee.  I'm kidding.  I'm sure I'll sleep fine.  I've been doing
this a long time.

        My daughter turned 5 months yesterday.  People say the time flies and they're
right.  It sure does.

Fun fishing out here! Kelp patty yellowtail, 20-30 lb bluefin and yellowfin tuna! 

We have even had some chances at bigger tuna in the 50-80 lb class.
