Fishing was slow today. We had a handful of fish weighing in at 70-170 lbs. We are going to make a move and go look for bigger and better. Weather is still beautiful. Dinner was a delicious saut?©ed veal cutlet, pasta and roasted fresh veggies.

Variety was the theme on our first 3 local fishing trips of the year. Yellowtail , bonito , halibut , calico bass , sand bass , sheephead , lingcod , red rock cod and rockfish were all part of our fish count the past few days. The highlight of our weekend was a yellowtail we caught Sunday morning that was every bit of 30 pounds. The best rigs were a dropper loop with 6 oz. torpedo sinker and a sliding egg sinker rig with a 3/4 oz. Our next trip is on Friday November 23. Call Seaforth at 619-224-3383 for reservations.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-17-2016 #2 I meant to send this picture of the fathom meter this morning but I forgot about it. This is a screenshot of our fathom meter last night when we hooked the 115 pounder that Jack caught. You can see these Bluefin like to hang between 26 to 40 fathoms. That's pretty darn deep. If you look up towards the upper part of the screen, you will see two flat straight lines. One of them is in the middle of the screen at about 4 fathoms and the other is on the left side at about 11 fathoms. That is somebody under the boat using a live bait sinker rig. Also in the center of the screen you'll see a forward slash. It is light in color and broken up starting at about 4 fathoms going down to 12 fathoms. That is somebody winding a jig up. If you look between 7 to 13 fathoms you'll see a jig someone is dropping down. The point I want to make is that these fish are typically deep and you need to be able to get your bait or jig down into the deeper water columns where these fish are at. Knowing this you should be using those big heavy jigs or heavy torpedo sinker to increase your chances of hooking one of these trophy fish. The tuna did not show up. A couple of us saw schools that did not cooperate at all. We picked up a few yellowtail on kelp patties and a handful yellowfin tuna for the day. We are heading home to regroup. Mother Nature was kind to us today as we landed 164 yellowfin and 1 bluefin off of a 5 hr drift. Same tackle, a 20 lb bait rod and a 30 or 40 lb bait rod. Size 4 and 2 hooks.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-05-2016 We finished up the trip nicely yesterday with great yellowtail and tuna fishing down below. It was pretty darn good! Unfortunately we have to travel all day today to get back to San Diego. As luck would have it though we have excellent weather traveling home! Thank you Henry Hampton for putting together another fun group of folks for four days of fishing. We will be in tomorrow morning at 6 AM to unload our catch and pick up a limited load of 20 passengers on Dan Ravta's annual five day trip!
