Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-21-2016 For anyone that wants to go out and fish the local tuna outside San Diego that has been biting consistently we have a day and a half trip leaving on Sunday at 6 PM fishing Monday and coming back Tuesday morning at 6 AM. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, a good broken record, we had another great day of Wahoo fishing! It didn't stop there from dark on we had a great nighttime bite on Quality yellowtail, absolutely a beautiful grade. Talk about burning the candle at both ends of the stick! You guys leaving on the Ahi charter on the 22nd make sure you have plenty of the medium-size marauders in your tackle box. Not every day but some days the sharks are really really bad eating marauders and the Wahoo on the marauders. Anybody wanting to get in on some of the best action I've ever seen on these eight and 10 day trips we have openings on our limited load 10 day trip on November 22. Thanks for tuning in we will catch you tomorrow! The Polaris Supreme Crew!

May 7, 2025 ballina Fishing Report

We returned from an 8-day trip on the day before Thanksgiving. The trip was slow overall with a few great highlights. We had one good day of tuna fishing where we landed about 75 tuna ranging in size from 15# to 75# topped with 6 fish at the end of the day which weighed from 156# to 224#. A few wahoo and good yellowtail fishing on medium grade yellows ballanced out the trip.

7 yellowtail 109 calico bass 63 barracuda. Plenty of bites but with the lack of yellowtail we have decided to head offshore starting tomorrow. We recommend having a 20-30lb rod for kelps and smaller grade tuna and another rod with 40-60lb preferably with a 2 speed reel for fish over 50lbs. Flourocarbon is always recommended when we are offshore. Be prepared to fish flylined baits, sinker rigs and flat falls.

The Pacifica checked in this afternoon with an audio update from offshore.   We have limits of Yellowfin Tuna and 4 Bluefin Tuna.

We have plenty of room on our 1.5 day trip leaving Monday night and other 1.5 and overnight trips throughout the week.  We also have a full day trip Sunday at 5:30 AM.

Bring your 20# and 15# sticks with fluorocarbon and small flat falls.

Ryan Bostian called in to give his report for fishing at the Coronado Islands. He reported that the Islands have seen a huge invasion of Squid over the last 11/12 days. The squid in turn have attracted a number of fish. Including 25 to 45 lb. Yellowtail & 25 to 65 lb. White Seabass. They are also seeing a lot of Sand Bass & Barracuda. Just a lot of fish. Ryan's best quote was "Go fishing, because you just might catch the biggest fish of your life." That says it all.

If want more information or want to make a reservation call Seaforth Sportfishing at 619-224-3383. Ryan has trips every day leaving at 5:30 AM & returning around 5:30 in the evening.

May 2, 2025 ballina Fishing Report

"We fished at Cedros Island and we fished on offshore kelps," said Polaris Supreme skipper Drew Henderson July 28. He'd just ended a five-day Catchy Tackle trip with 24 anglers, and was weighing the catch at the Fisherman's Landing scales.
"We got yellowtail, dorado and some non-biting albacore," he added, "and; wow!" The albacore he hung on the scales pushed the numbers up to 41 pounds even. "That's the best one so far this season," I remarked. Henderson high-fived angler Al Brandenburg, who grinned and brought his fish over to the side for some photos. Brandenburg said he got the big longfin on a sardine and a 2/0 Flyliner hook. He used 30-pound Izorline on a Trinidad 30 reel and a Calstar 700 M rod. He won second place in the jackpot. Harvey Rosen of Benecia bagged a 43.6-pound yellowtail on the dropper loop to win first place. "He fought like a bulldog," said Rosen, who used a sardine on a 4/0 Mustad hook with 60-pound Izorline XXX mono, an Avet 4-2 reel and a Seeker 6460 glass rod to beat his fish in ten minutes. Don Spitzer of Petaluma was third, for a 33.8-pound yellowtail. Chartermaster Wayne Martin hoisted a dorado he said was typical of those encountered on kelps.

May 1, 2025 ballina Fishing Report

~~Nov.15
Well today went as expected.  We woke up on the anchor after a lovely nights sleep and shortly after daylight we started scratching tuna.  It didn't take long to meet our quota.  Some already had it and were dropper looping for yellows and getting a few.  Anyways a little after 7 we pulled anchor and trolled around for wahoo.  One  more than half the boat caught a wahoo by lunch time and we took off for Alijos Rocks.  We traveled the rest of the day while we looked for something floating with dorado under it but we never found anything as expected.

So like I said, we'll be at the stones in the morning.  We're going to try for some more wahoo before starting north to finish off our trip.  You never really can have enough wahoo.  There is 2 or 3 passengers left on board who have not caught a wahoo so we're going to make sure they get one before anyone else tomorrow.  We call it the troll of shame and Glenn, if you're reading at home, I always think of you when we do this.
