We had an awesome 1.5 trip on the Apollo out of Fisherman's Landing. We left Friday night at 7 pm and headed to Punta Colnett. Weather was very nice, calm and glassy. We started fishing for Yellowtail in the early morning but no biter. We preceded fishing for Rockfish. We drifted every hot spots that Captain JJ knew and they were all very productive. We came up with lots of good quality Vermilion Reds, Lingcod and Bocaccio Rockfish. At about 3 in the afternoon, Yellowtail breezers came through and all six of us got hooked with our rockcod gangnion hooks. We ended with two 25 lbs Yellows. Next time I'll be ready. We fished until almost dark and we bagged 125 Vermillion Reds, 98 Rock cod, 25 Lingcod and 2 Yellowtail for 25 guys. Captain JJ runs a top notch operation together with Jessica, Joe, Travis and Chef Nick. They were all very professional and helpful at all times. Chef Nick serves all variety of gourmet food on the boat. Apollo will be still running trips in Fisherman's Landing until end of March and will move to Santa Barbara on April. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-11-2014

Hello Sportfishing Fans. We are off on Bill Stephens annual 5 day with out Bill. He couldn't make it due to work scheduling. What a bummer working all year putting together a trip and not being able to go. Any way we all appreciate it. From all of us on the Polaris Supreme Thanks Bill. We have started the trip off with a bang at the bait receiver's picking up a nice load of 6 in. sardines and cured anchovies to go with a couple of tanks of green back mackerel Drew and the boys caught last trip. It looks like there is some tuna fish to catch very close to home so why not stop and try it? We did and we saw a couple schools of bluefin. One acted like bluefin but on the other we hooked 3 and caught 2-35 pounders. I wish that stuff would move south 150 miles. That would make it more convenient for a long range boat. We also caught a handful of yellowfin. We're going to head south and probably start early in on the coastal grounds for yellowtail before heading offshore to the tuna grounds in the afternoon.

The weather is getting windier the further south we go so we're planning on it wind tomorrow.

Today we scratched away at a nice grade of yellowtail. Our weather is calm and we had a fun day of island fishing. Thanks for checking in.

~~Oct. 15
 I forgot to mention yesterday how steamy it is down here.  Steamy, like we're boiling a giant pot of water or something, I can't explain it.  Anyways when you walk out of an air and conditioned part of the boat it's like POW!  Holy Toledo!  But after a little bit you get used to it and it's not that bad until you find some AC again and then come back out and it's like, POW again.  Anyways, we had a little more wind this morning which helped with the kite fishing and it stayed one direction which helped with the anchor fishing.  We had another decent morning.  George caught another over 200 and his bud Craig joined him with a 207.  The sharks weren't as ferocious this morning and this afternoon I'd have to say they weren't much of a problem at all.  We really did a number on the wahoo yesterday because today we only caught a few but thankfully we had a great day on the anchor starting mid morning or after lunch, I already can't remember.

 The boxed and vacuum sealed flying fish from Florida the gang brought down really paid off today.  That's mostly what I did this afternoon was rig flying fish for the kite and help gaff tuna when they needed me. For a couple hours they were hitting the baits on the kite as fast as we could put them out.  Most of what we're catching is in the 100-130 pound class. The big story was Charlie this afternoon.  He caught 3 bigguns.  A 194, 213, and a 204.  A nice afternoon for Charlie.  About half the gang are already releasing anything under 200 pounds.

 For dinner we had a lovely corned beef and cabbage and potato meal.  Afterwards I was waiting for the shower and i noticed all the tuna that was under the boat and I pointed it out to the chef.  So he went down there and sinker rigged a sardine right on top of one of the tunas heads and he got himself a 177 pounder shattering his previous personal best of 35 pounds.  Way to go Mike.  Most people at the time were tying on new top shots on there reels.  They all new what was going on and that they could most likely do the same but nobody did a thing.  Everyone was fished out so that shows we had a good day.  You just can't fish 24 hours a day.

Howdy folks and good evening. As I left off yesterday we were going to the bluefin grounds today. Well we did and of course it was a different day today, it's fishing. The morning was very slow especially compared to the last 5 days running. Things weren't looking on the up. We left the grounds in search of and found nothing. When we went back to the grounds we noticed boats were drifting and most of them all had a fish or two hanging, so we decided to drift too. And for the next several hours we most always had one or two hanging too.

 

 So after a day and a half we had 5 fish on the boat and things were looking bad, and now there isn't a skunked person on board. We could've doubled our score too if it wasn't for all the casualties but hey, that's fishing. A successful day I say. Great weather helped too. Up until late it was just lovely.

 

So I leave you now not knowing exactly when the next time I'll be writing to you but I can tell you it won't be any later than the 10th so keep checking back or come fishing.

Started where we found fish yesterday, it had slid up and out. Found big Bluefin right away, hooked one and lost is 15' from the gaff. Chased Yellowfin most of the day, managed only 2, but we were happy to capture those. Offshore again tommorrow and it's a new day!!

We scratched for a few yellowtail and a handful of wahoo. We also release a lot of small yellowtail. The weather is excellent and prospects look great for tomorrow!
