Today we had about 7-10 wahoo and several tuna. Four nice ones around 170 lbs., and some smaller ones (many released) 50-60 lbs. We lost 4 nice ones, 2 thought to be over 200 lbs. The guys are pretty tired putting in 36 hours of fishing time. Most only had 3-4 hours of sleep.

We had full speed fishing today offshore on kelp patties. However for the most part, the yellowtail and dorado we were catching were small. So we released all but a few. We did however get some nice grade yellowfin. No big hits, but good action as we picked away at 30 lb. yellowfin. Jeff prepared a great Cajun chicken with avocado, mozzarella and fresh salsa for lunch. And as we head in tonight he is serving us steak and lobster. We will hit the dock tomorrow morning at 8:00am. We will be departing tomorrow on an 8-day trip with "The Old Wild Bunch" headed up by Le Roy Belardes. Yesterday morning I was looking at the positions and forecasts of positions and conditions of hurricane Odile and it sure looked to me like we'd be able to go around it that night. So after consulting with Tommy, he did some research and he agreed. And by dark yesterday I was 95 percent sure we could do it. Not enough. We need 100 percent out here. So we headed straight west most of the night until I got an update on the storm at 2:00 am which made me 100 percent sure we could easily make it around the storm. So we hung a left and we've been traveling all day heading for Alijos Rocks. We had some choppy weather this morning but we couldn't tell by our ride because we were going with it. Down swell = a good ride. The weather is nice now that I write this and we're expecting the same the next few days at least.
We usually expect a couple travel days on an 8 day trip and today was one of ours. We did try really hard though to find a nice big dorado kelp but we were unsuccessful. The only kelps we found weren't big enough to hold a school of mahi. So we'll have to do it tomorrow or the next day. Or the next, OK. We'll be concentrating on wahoo first thing tomorrow. We'll be saying our wahoo prayers tonight. I'll check back later.

We have three trips that need passengers. Hoping to help the charter masters fill these.
The first trip is a one day that departs on July 16th. Fishing on the 17th. There are 4 spots open. Cost is $205. Limited to 20 passengers.

The next trip is a two day that departs July 24th (Tuesday night) fishing July 25th and 26th . cost of the trip is $450.00 and includes food and Mexican permits. Limited to 22 anglers. There are 8 spots open on this one.

The last one is a 2.5 day charter at the end of July. This is limited to 18 passengers. Trip departs on July 26th fishing on the 27th and 28th and returns on the morning of the 29th.

December 14, 2024 upper madison Fishing Report
125 yellowfin for our 45 passengers. We had 2 drifts today both of which took a finesse presentation to get a bite. Size 2 or even size 4 hooks on 20lb flouro carbon is still the recommended set up when the tuna are picky. And special thanks to Captain Todd and crew of the @voyagersportfishing for letting us double team a very nice school with them.
