Ryan Bostian called in at the end of the day to update the San Diego's fishing day, "We had 16 fish real early in the morning. We had another good shot at them in the afternoon, we ended up with 29 Yellowtail on the boat. This style of fishing and this size of fish I would say that we are landing about half of the fish that we hook. We did lose several of them today, but that is just the name of the game when you are fishing this size fish. It seems that some days we are fishing 15 to 20 pounders. And other days we are fishing 20 to 30 pounders. Today was definitely the nicer grade of fish. I'd say the future looks bright at Coronado Islands as long as the water doesn;t do something wierd and get cold and dirty. There seems to be plenty of Yellowtail around. Just about everywhere we see some sign of fish. Some days they bite, some days they do not. Man they are definitely in the area and I expect this spring is only going to get better for us.

Once again today we went out with 30 passengers and came back with 29 Yellowtail. Fly line sardines were the best bet today. Come down with some 25 or 30 lb. and some 2/0 hooks, bring a yoyo rod just in case and you will be good to go."

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-18-2013

 

Where, oh where are the fish hiding? We traveled in a northerly direction all day, prospecting in some very fishy-looking water, without much success. Nice, clean, warm water too. That's why it's called "fishing" and not "catching". We stayed within view of the Baja coast virtually the entire day. Very, very rugged and remote coastline, with the occasional extremely small village, and/or primitive fishing "camp". Many discussions on the boat about how these spots get their water, fuel, food, etcetera in order to live. Our route also put us in a position to have to dodge what seemed like hundreds of lobster traps dotting the immediate coast.

Our weather finally kicked up a notch, after spoiling us for the past eight days. Nothing major, but heading uphill with a fifteen knot breeze is making for an interested ride. I suppose the best description for now would be "bumpy". A nicely presented dinner of filet mignon with crabcakes, potatoes, and asparagus was served, along with a raspberry sorbet for dessert. We'll continue the hunt for some yellowtail on our way home, as this trip winds down.

We'll check back later, hopefully with some positive results from our prospecting. Mike would like to wish his lovely wife Jenny a very happy anniversary. We don't know exactly what time our arrival will be at the dock on Wednesday morning, but if you're meeting the boat, give Susan a call at the office on Tuesday night for an update, and a more accurate ETA.

Mother Nature was kind to us today as we landed 164 yellowfin and 1 bluefin off of a 5 hr drift. Same tackle, a 20 lb bait rod and a 30 or 40 lb bait rod. Size 4 and 2 hooks.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in from the San Diego tonight with an update. We had 16 LIMITS of Yellowtail (80). Most of the fish were caught on YoYo Jig but we did catch fish on the surface iron and using bait. The San Diego will be fishing the Coronado Islands for Yellowtail daily. It turned out it was a travel day today. There wasn't any fish in the water we looked at today. On the way down we went through an area in the dark loaded with fin bait so we thought we'd look at it on the way back to see if any game fish found the area but they hadn't. The weather was fantastic today and we got a lot done. All and all we had a great time this trip. Most the passengers on board had never been on a deep sea fishing trip before and they all had a blast pulling on those beautiful yellows at Cedros. Thank you Mr. Tom Pfleger for making this trip possible. We all appreciate you and all our charter heads and all our passengers for that matter.

We're leaving on a 2 day trip tomorrow morning. That trip is designed to fish a full day at 200 miles if need be. If that's where the best fishing was we could get there on a 2 day where on a 1 1/2 trip you'd be limited to within about 110 miles for a full day of fishing. The best fishing is within 100 miles of San Diego so the cool thing about tomorrows trip is we'll have time to fish a handful of hours before dark tomorrow. There is still 2 spots available so let's go fishing!

6 stops worth of picking and scratching accounted for 69 Yellowfin Tuna, 18 Dorado, 57 Skipjack Tuna and 147 Yellowtail. A 20 lb bait rod and a 40 lb bait rod is all you need.

Hi all my fishing friends:

We are having a great season. The blue fin have been biting mixed with yellow fin and even a smattering of albacore. I have some great opportunities to get out on the Apollo with me and enjoy the great weather and great fishing that we've been having this season.

We have two two day charters that needs anglers. The first two day trip departs Thursday 9/13 at 9 p.m. fishing Friday 9/14 and Sat. 9/15. This trip is limited to 18 passengers. Another opportunity to fish aboard the Apollo with us has opened up. This is a 2 day trip that fishes September 27-28 (departing the night of the 26th). This outing is limited to 16 anglers.

The unusual part of this trip is half the anglers will be fly fishers. If you conventional fish, this means you get the stern to yourself as fly rodders like the sideways drift of the boat and stay on the windward side on the bow. Fly rodders are the first in on the slide but based on past averages, conventional will still out-fish us 5 to 1. The trip is 670.00 and includes fishing permit, bunk and food. So here's the deal. We had a good finisher today. We started bright and early with coffee and stuff and then got on a school of those 30-40 plus pounders. It didn't stick longer then for us to get a couple handfuls. Then we had more coffee and stuff and then we had another school of those bf's that treated us the same. Then Shawn was ready to serve lunch but before Tommy could give the announcement we got on a school of 15-20 pounders that bit well for us. We didn't hang out long. We caught a couple rounds worth and then gave the school to our friends on another boat. Then we searched for another school of those bigguns but never found it before we were out of time. We did find another school of the 15-20's and finished our time on those. They were biting good. It was a lot of fun.

After that the crew enjoyed a boat scrub while the passengers enjoyed naps, movies, champagne, wine, cocktails, soda pop, and some relaxation with friends.
