Well we wound up the last day of fishing with some good offshore action on kelp patties. Everybody pulled on a lot of fish and kept 2 or 3 nice quality yellowtail and dorado to take home. Weather is absolutely superb. And so was our final dinner, steak and lobster. We'd like to thank Eric Rogger and his group for such a fun trip. The old adage “I’d rather be lucky than good” was the story for us today. Before we even fired up the Binos our autopilot found us a kelp patty that kicked out 66 yellowtail (12-25lbs). After our kelp the weather kicked up substantially making it very difficult to work. We did however see some tuna but did not get a bite. A 40 lb flyline setup was the best today.

We got into the albacore grounds late in the morning. Most of the guys there already had a mix of around 30 albacore and yellowfin. We struggled and just couldn't find the right school until about 4:00 in the afternoon. Then it was wide open albacore fishing until 6:30. As we sat down to a superb dinner of Veal chops with Port and Mushroom sauce we reflected on what had started as a brutally tough day had turned into a simply great day! We will definitely stay here and try this again tomorrow. Thanks, Tommy

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We had a very nice day on the water, we picked up 42 Bluefin. We do have 1 hang'n. Very, very good sign of tuna here today. We have very good scores and there is still plenty of daylight left. We'll keep you posted."

Today we started the day trying for Yellowtail and 20-40lb Bluefin Tuna. It was a great start. We had excellent fishing. We had to leave them biting at 9 am. From then on we changed gears to target larger Bluefin Tuna. Around lunch time we found them. Ranging in size from 70-200 lbs, most ranging from 130-150lbs. Most of them bit the kite, but the bait fish that we caught were landed on 100lb flyline with a size 2/0 Gamakatsu Nautilus HD hook. Getting a bite on heavy line required a small strong hook. If the hook was too big then there was a small chance at a bite. If the line was too light then there was a slim chance at landing the fish. It took the perfect combo for fly lineing to get a bite and to land one of these fish.

We will try for these big boys again tomorrow.

Schools of bluefin where a little harder to come by yesterday fortunately we still where able to put together a day. 85 yellowtail 6-15 pounds 6 dorado and 3 bluefin.

Captain Steve Gawitt just called in with an update from Aztec with an offshore update from San Diego. This morning on our first drift put 24 Bluefin Tuna, 2 Yellowfin Tuna, and 1 Yellowtail on the deck. We are seeing bigger Bluefin Tuna and we have had a fair amount of missed fish.
