"The X-Raps were working real good on the slide," said Polaris Supreme skipper Tom Rothery July 21 at Fisherman's Landing. "It seemed like the best colors were silver or bonito color. The zucchini colored skirted jigs were working real good on the troll. Fishing was good; we got enough fish, with good yellowtail at the islands and good albacore fishing offshore." David "Sammy" Samuelson of San Diego won first place on the trip, for his 37.4-pound albacore. He said he got it with a sardine on a 2/0 hook tied to 30-pound P-Line, a Saiwa reel and a Calstar six-foot rod. Bob Pollack of San Diego won second place for a 33.4-pounder, and Dick Emerson of Rowland Heights won third place for a 32.8-pound albacore. Jonathan Kendrick of Oakley stood in with the winners to show his 37-pound dorado, caught on a Zucker's jig in Mexican Flag colors.

Hello everyone, Today we were traveling up the line and looking for kelps. We found one kelp that was loaded with Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado. It was as good as it gets, like an aquarium in the water. We fished until everyone was content with the number of fish they tagged. Fishing was so good they were eating the trolling lures bring dipped in the water. Very fun to say the least. We may have some time to fish tomorrow for a little bit depending on our speed. Will Report again tomorrow, Team Supreme

Oct. 11

Today wasn't the trip saver. Nope, that'll have to be tomorrow. There was a signal of that big yellowfin in the morning. We had a stop for a few 45-50 pounders and some jigging on the smaller yellowfin thats been around. We also had some of those late as well. The highlight of the day as would be the highlight on most any day of any trip was just before lunch time we found a beefer(that means about as big as they get)beefer school of big bluefin. We hooked about 10 or 12 of those beasts and landed 5, 75 pounds to over a 100 pounds. There were a few other schools seen today, a school of 40-60 pounders, and a school of 25-35 pounders so along with the beautiful weather we have high hopes for tomorrow.

Oct. 11

Polaris Supreme is back on line. Good evening folks. We had one of those very rare incidents happen out here that we just dread happening. A passenger took a fall on deck and broke his femur bone during the second night of the trip. Our only option was to bring him back to San Diego so that we could get him to a hospital so he could get the care that he needed. Unfortunately we were 250+ miles south when it happened and it cost us a couple days of our trip getting him back home. When I say rare incidents I mean that it's the first and hopefully last time I have seen it happen in my 12 year career on the Polaris Supreme. We safely got him off the boat yesterday afternoon and headed back out with 2 days in the trip now to get things done. Get well Bob. All of our thoughts are with you. We are now a blue fin boat. The weather has come down beautifully and with signs of blue fin yesterday up to 70 pounds we're excited to get our day going. Just waiting for the sun to rise as I'm writing this. Wish us luck. Hello Supreme fans. We have finally hit our stride and started fishing.Unfortunately it happened to be right in the midst of some extremely tough fishing. Our first trip of the year was an Open party three day trip. We spent the three day searching the ocean for biting tuna as well as some inshore action. The tuna fishing was really slow but full of lots of spots of fish, and they were BIG. Bluefin well into the 150 lb class were around but not biting. We chipped away at some inshore fish and were able to put together a nice catch of quality Reds and Lingcod from the bottom. However the star of the show was hands down the jackpot fish. A 130lb Bluefin Tuna, a hard earned fish that ended in victory! These fish were big and did not make it easy to hook them or land them. Their size, abrasive teeth, and unwillingness to bite created quite the challenge.We did managed to hook 5 fish and only landed one. We are out on a two day after Independence day. Wish us Luck! Hello everyone, Today we spent the morning catching Yellowtail and Bluefin Tuna. The Yellows were a great grade 15-30 lbs. The trick was light line and small hooks. The Tuna were not the bigger grade we were targeting, so the search will continue. We will try a new area tomorrow. Wish us Luck, Team Supreme

Capt Mike Pritchard from the Tribute letting us know they still have a few spots left on tonights 1.5 day trip departing out of Seaforth landing departing at 8pm. Looks like the weather will be great this weekend, there have been some yellowfin around we know where the Bluefin are and they should start biting at any given time. 10 bluefin tuna 2 yellowfin tuna. We are seeing fish from 10 lbs to over 200 pounds. A 25 lb bait rod, a 40 lb bait rod and a 50,60 or 80 lb rod is recommended. If you do not own the proper tackle. Seaforth is renting 50 lb rods with a 2 speed reel. These rental rods have already conquered a lot of our fish.
