Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-18-2019 Another good day on the tuna, scratched up a few nice Wahoo and threw in some beautiful grouper to go with it. Overall a very satisfying and complete day! The weather kind of sucked the first half of the day but was good the second half! Weird squally weather this trip more drizzle and rain. Everybody's having a great time looking forward to tomorrow our last full day of fishing down south! Oh yeah almost forgot Wahoo enchiladas for dinner this evening! They were absolutely screaming! The Polaris Supreme Crew!

The Ranta Charter started off fishing yellowfin tuna with a decent little score on school sized fish ranging from 10-20 pounds. Most of the fish were caught on the flylined sardine with 30 pound test and a 2/0 hook. We also had as handful of troll fish that came off of green and black zuker feathers. The next day we sought after some quality yellowtail between 20 and 30 pounds. Sadly, these fish didn't show like we hoped they would have. We saw a couple small schools of fish that came up and boiled in the chum, but nothing would stick with the boat. Fish were being caught on flylined sardine, yo-yo jigs, and everyone's favorite technique, the surface iron. We managed to pick away at some of these fish in the morning before calling it quits and moving on in search of a better bite. After hearing reports of the yellowfin bite picking up, We decided to make a run to the grounds to get in on the action. We arrived mid-morning with high expectations, as a couple other boats in the area had some big scores off big schools of yellowfin. It didn't take long for our dreams to turn to reality as a four way trolling hookup turned into a wide open bite. They were biting anything that was thrown in the water for a solid hour until most of the passengers had their fill pulling on these tuna, that averaged 15 pounds. We had a couple more stops for not as much success before pointing the boat towards something new. The last day of fishing was spent offshore looking for kelps, but dirty water and 20 mph winds made it hard kelp finding conditions/ However, we managed to pick up a few nice Dorado as well as a couple more yellowfin to add to our total. This was a great trip with some awesome people, a couple a which had their first experience out here fishing saltwater. July 13
    We had some good tailing today.  We were a little slow out of the gates.  We didn't get on them until a few hours after daylight but when we did it was good fishing on the 18-25 pound fish.  We had one of those good old long drifts where we were gettin um.  Of course after a while we had a lull so we went searching and found some mixed grade yellowtails eager to bite.  They were mostly 10-14 pounds with a few 16-18 pounders in the mix but it was still fun and they were biting.  We did that for a couple hours and left them biting to find the bigger grade of fish we were fishing in the morning and wouldn't you know it, we got an evening whack.  A sun setter.  Now this fish seemed to be even bigger than the morning grade.  I'm talking 22-28 pounders this time.  Maybe a few bigger.  At dark we decided we had enough yellowtail and we'd like to top off with some more yellowfin and try for some bluefin in a couple of days so we'll be running up tonight.  The weather for us was good
  and the forecast for the future looks tasty.  5 knots of wind makes my mouth water.  Everyone on board here is fat and happy.  What I mean by that is they're being fed well and are having a good time.

 

Tommy Rothery docked Polaris Supreme at Fisherman's Landing October 5 following a five-day trip. "We had full speed fishing today offshore on kelp patties," read the report from the boat for October 4. "However for the most part, the yellowtail and dorado we were catching were small. So we released all but a few. We did however get some nice grade yellowfin. No big hits, but good action as we picked away at 30 lb. yellowfin. Jeff prepared a great Cajun chicken with avocado, mozzarella and fresh salsa for lunch. And as we head in tonight he is serving us steak and lobster. We will hit the dock tomorrow morning at 8:00 am. Give Susan a call at 619-390-7890." Jackpot winner Kenny Pole of Lakeside had a dandy 45-pound tuna for first place. He said it came on a sardine, a 2/0 ringed Super Mutu hook, 50-pound Yo-Zuri line on a TLD 30 reel and a six-foot rod of unknown make. Pole said the fish fought for 45 minutes.

This past week was spent offshore catching yellowtail and waiting for the bio-mass of yellowfin tuna to move within our range. On Wednesday we started to see the first sign of tuna in our area and caught 8 yellowfin and 5 bluefin. Thursday and Friday we only caught 2 yellowfin but the yellowtail fishing was phenomenal . Thursdays passengers caught full Mexican limits of yellows in the 7-11 lb. range. On Saturday Capt. Ray had a very good day as he caught 1 yellowfin 1 albacore and 82 yellowtail. On Saturday we also had a couple other 3/4 day boats out of Seaforth connect with a few tuna. All and all I am very excited to see what October brings. We had another tropical storm down south which should bring some more warm water up. This could be a very special October so don't put your fishing gear away yet!
