Today was mostly spent traveling. We'd tried an area first thing this morning and if it would have produced we would of hung out but we didn't have high hopes due to the poor reports of the previous boats who fished there but it was along our travel route so of course we looked at it. Basicaly we tried a few spots in the am and another in the afternoon for some fish taco meat ( which we had for lunch and it was delicous by the way) before arriving to the top end of the ridge just at dark. We fished there till after dinner catching small yellows, small tunas, and other various species of fish we didn't tag until pulling anchor and continuing on down. We'll be arriving in tomorrows hot spot at midnight tonight and we're hoping to get this party started and soon as we get there but we'll take it at sunrise too. Weathers mostly great down here. Not much wind, hot, sunny and clear.

It's been windy off southern Baja for a week or so, and it also blew a couple of days out at the Hurricane Bank. When Polaris Supreme skipper Drew Henderson looked out his wheelhouse window one day, he said it looked like Christmas, he could see so much white out there. At Fisherman's Landing December 4, Henderson weighed the catch for his ten-day anglers. There were tuna, wahoo, and dorado in good numbers. Bert Carlson of Long beach won first place for an 84.9-pound yellowfin, after the fish made a mistake with his sardine on a 5/0 Owner Offshore hook. He said he used 50-pound fluorocarbon leader and 65-pound hollow Jerry Brown Spectra on a Penn 20 T reel and a six and a half-foot Kencor rod. Chris Mohs of Ventura was second, for an 80-pound tuna, and Todd Cameron of Long Beach took third place for a 78.8-pound tuna. He also caught a tuna with an archival tag in it, which will bring him a $500 fee for the tag's return.

I'm not sure how i feel about today. I know at 3:30 I felt real bad. Extremely frustrated to say the least. 2 of the boats we were fishing with found schools early in the morning and drifted with it most of the day scratching away at the bluefin the whole time while we drove around seeing nothing. The other 2 boats we were with connected around 1:00 in the afternoon and were gettin um, so I was feeling sad and mad. I told Mark to switch gens and broke out the volt meter to see if we had a short somewhere. I figured there had to be a reason we were the only boat not drifting. We were looking in the same water with the same machines trolling the same jigs but just not seeing it. The truth of the matter is there was nothing wrong with the boat, her captain or the crew. Sometimes your just that guy. Sometimes your front row and sometimes your nose bleed.

OK, enough wining. The day turned out just fine. At 3:30 we found a boomer school and drifted on the 25-45 pound bluefin almost till dark. Everyone caught at least one with top dog Phil boating 6 of those beauts. The weather was great in the morning but increased wind velocity throughout the day and it was pretty choppy at dark. So with the weather coming up and our bait situation worsening, we're heading down to fish for yellows and try for some macks.

Yellowfin Tuna # 1!!!!!!!!!!!, Albacore Tuna # 1!!!!!!!, Dorado #1 !!!! Very impressive numbers indeed !!!! Way to go guys, awesome year !!!!So when good friend and Santa Barbara local Doug Browand called and said a bunch of local firefighters and friends had chartered the #1 boat in the land for a little Island Freelance trip, I was packing my gear and clearing my schedule in a hurry. We loaded up on time and headed out of Sea Landing in Santa Barbara straight to Santa Rosa Island in case the squid and WSB wanted to show. J.J promised us some outrageous rockfish and lingcod action if the seabass were still MIA. We gave it a solid effort but with no signs of squid or WSB we motored up and headed out to some of Captain J.J's secret rocks and reefs. The first drift of the day produced monster reds and chuckles that rival some of the nicest and biggest rockfish I've seen and caught in many years. The Channel Islands Rockfishing is on Fire !!!!!! Throw a bunch of nice legal lings into the mix and you're talking a really fine day of fishing and a great time for all. The fishing at the Islands is only going to get better and J.J and the boys on the Apollo will be there fishing for them everyday. Mike Pritchard called i with this report for the Tribute. "Very good fishing here once again. Limits of Yellowtail, 18 mixed tuna with a sprinkling of Skipjack to go with it. The weather is really nice & we are looking around for some more Bluefin.

WOW!! What an incredible day!!! This albacore is in the cooler 76 degree water. It wants to bite wide open. Can't say enough about how much fun today was catching big fat jumbo albacore. They tired our anglers out. By the end of the day only a few were still standing. Chef Pedro fixed a spicy teriyaki albacore lunch that was fantastic. For dinner he served some delicious veal chops. Today was just a great. this is what albacore fishing is supposed to be like.

We had a very very good afternoon of yellowtail fishing today. The grade was 16-22 pounds with some going larger. We took off at dark and will be looking offshore tomorrow for wahoo and dorado.
