puget sound Fishing Report 2024

13 bluefin tuna from 40 to 80 lbs and 2 yellowtail. Come prepared with a 25 lb setup for kelp fish and smaller tuna. A 40 or 50 lb setup for flylining sardines at the 60-80 lb tuna and a 60 or 80 lb setup for flatfalling. Fluorocarbon is a must as well as size 1 to 2/0 circle hooks. Come take advantage of this rare opportunity to catch a true trophy fish in local waters without trolling.

 Thank goodness for slow speed.  Even though we got a really good jump yesterday, we weren't going to be getting anywhere down below till late tomorrow.  Our speed was horrible.  1.5 knots below average.  But we sped up this morning.  Yup.  This morning we were only making .75 knots below average.  That all costs a whole lot of time when you're traveling great distances so we decided we'd have to be stopping short.  So that's what we did this afternoon, arriving at 4:30.

 Wow!  It didn't take long before everyone had a tuna on.  And they weren't those 8-14 pounders either.  There were some of those, but the majority of them were those 20-30 pounders.  I say again, "wow".  It bit steady the whole time we which is a couple of hours.  During the stop, I had tied a few hooks and cast a few baits out, you know , like we do, and quite a few times the hook would fall off and I would scratch my head and ask myself, " are my knots failing"?  They weren't.  It took crew member Justin to spot a wahoo flying out of the water to figure it out.

 So we wound them in and threw back the marauders.  Before dark, which wasn't long, we had a little binger for 5 and then one for 1 50 pounder.  Say it with me now.  "Wow"!  We aren't going anywhere tonight.  We'l just kick back and see what the day has to offer.

 My buddy Glen caught the 50 pound wahoo today.  Every year for a while now he has been the last member of the little troll team that I like to call, " the troll of shame"  That's the last few people on board who have not yet caught a wahoo.  He will not be joining that team this year.  Nope.  This year he can join the heckling party.  He get's to see what it's like from the other side.  Way to go Glen.
       

 

Good evening everyone, Today we did some inshore fishing. Conditions were not favorable, not a lot of current left the fish very unwilling. However were able to scratch together a day of nice rockfish, Sheepshead, and a variety of other fish. Including the inshore trifectra: Yellowtail, Halibut, and White Seabass! A nice day to get out of the weather! We are headed back down to try for big bluefin tomorrow! Wish us luck, Team Supreme

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-03-2016 Today we started our first full day of fishing on our annual Hampton four day. We started the morning fishing the beach in search of Yellowtail. Conditions were tough and we opted to head off shore and search the warm blue waters for a nice kelp or a biting school of tuna. We managed to find some nice kelps, with little on them. We managed to some playground grade Yellows and Dorado, but fortunately for them they were all thrown back so we may be able to catch them next year. However we did catch a few adults among the babies, they were a welcome addition to our frigid RSW fish hold. Over all a tough day with fish few and far between. We are making a move south tonight to put us in position for tuna and yellowtail fishing tomorrow morning. Wish us luck, The Supreme Team

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 09-29-2019 This nice grade tuna (20 to 40 pounds) is really giving us a hard time. We must've made over a dozen anchor jobs today following that around. Finally just before dark it wanted to settle in and bite good. We were keeping 10 going at a time for a while. It was all that nice quality with no skipjack! We landed a few yellowtail today and of course skipjack and small tuna everywhere we went. The weather did the same thing! I'm calling it the Camelot affect windy crappy weather at night and it gets nice starting in the morning and then starts all over with the nasty weather at night. Will be here again tomorrow and try this one last day before we have to head up the line. The Polaris Supreme Crew

Polaris Supreme Report 07-22-2016 Happy Friday everyone! We elected to stay the night at the same place as yesterday, in hopes of another action packed day of yellowtail fishing . We got the anchor down and started fishing around 5:30, to stage ourselves for the morning hit. As the misty morning came upon us we began to hook some nice yellowtail. We were finally starting to hit our stride when the fish quit biting. As the sky cleared it seemed as the yellows did too. We tried several spots that amounted to a slow pick throughout the day. Unfortunately we finished off the day without the wall to wall action yellowtail hit we were hoping for. However we still scratched up some quality fish. We feel very fortunate to have had such a great day of fishing yesterday. After fishing hard into the early afternoon we finally set a course for Point Loma to and wrap up this great 5 day trip. We have smooth sailing for the ride up and are looking at 7:00 am at the dock. We currently have a four day online departing August 2nd that still has a couple openings. Hi friends. Short report this evening as the weather is up once again. We checked out a different zone today and were only rewarded with a few fish for our efforts. We feel that the weather is jacking things up and once it backs off, the water structures will form again and we'll get back to business. Anyhow, like I said, our weather is sloppy but everyone is taking it fine and enjoying their dinner. We'll arrive back to the docks tomorrow morning and our ETA is looking like around 0630 hours. We'll brief you tomorrow and give you a trip wrap-up. Take care.

 There really isn't much to report today.. We didn't fish.  We traveled all day.  We chose to fish later last night in the windless lee of Cedros catching yellows, tuna, and seabass instead of going offshore in the wind/swell and most likely catching nothing or small tuna.  I think we made the right choice.  We had a bit of a bumpy ride last night, or so I'm told.  As usual I slept through it.  We were almost to the coast when I woke up for my watch, so things were a lot smoother.  So today we slept in and had a late breakfast of biscuits and gravy.  The crew got our scrub on while the customers read, hung out and played poker.  After lunch, on cue, most of the boat took a nice nap.  Now dinner is at it's end and my watch is almost over and I'm ready for bed.

 We'll be arriving tomorrow at 6:00 in the morning.  We should have a fairly quick turn around and we'll be back out again, this time for 4.  I'll be taking her out and I'm not sure where we'll go yet.  Fishing right now is at that stage where things need to and will change very soon.  We just hope we're in the right place when they do.
