south holston Fishing Report 2025

Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning at 9:27 AM with the update from the Tribute out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay, CA. We are off to a great start. Very good Bluefin Tuna fishing. We have 15 Bluefin Tuna and 1 Yellowfin Tuna (about 40 pounds). We have a very light load of only 9 anglers. We need 3 more Bluefin for out limit. We have a few first timers who got there first Bluefin Tuna We have a trip departing tonight. Call Seaforth at (619) 224-3383 to book a spot on the Tribute.

Hello everyone, Today was spent prospecting a new area offshore. We were hoping for Tuna, larger Dorado, and Wahoo. Around lunch time we found a large group of Beaked Whales, pretty amazing site seeing the group breaching and swimming close to the boat. Later in the day we did manage to find a dead Pygmy Sperm Whale with a huge Mako shark feeding on it. When we got close it was filled with tons of Dorado. There were a few stand outs that were much larger than the rest, but the majority were similar size as yesterday. We will be trying for Yellowtail tomorrow. Wish us luck, Team Supreme

San Diego regular Amanda Cervallos with 1 of the 213 yellowfin we landed today. Having your own pair of pliers definitely helps when we are in a hot and heavy bite.

We spent all day looking for kelps and never saw a single scrap. Not a single scrap. One beautiful wahoo on the troll late and that was all we tagged. We will be anchoring up Alijos Rocks early morning trying for a night bite and try for tuna and skin during the day.

Ryan Bostian checked in to tell us what the San Diego is doing. "The kids are back in school and if you have been waiting for an opportunity to get on the boat, with a light load, this is definitely the time for you. The Coronado Island have had very good Yellowtail signs. It has been inconsistent. We see them one day, we don't see them the next. The bite one day, they don't bite the next.

"Rockfish make up most of the counts, they last couple of days. But we always keep our eye out for Yellowtail. I don't think this season is over by any means. The water is still very warm. There is plenty of 70 degree water around. Reports have Yellowfin tuna moving up the line and there are plenty of Bluefin around. The problem with the Bluefin is finding fish that want to bite. It is just like the Dorado. There are plenty of Dorado, they just are hesitant to bite.

"It seems like the ocean is in a transition. I expect to see some good counts in a week or so. Our reservations are very light. Nov. 13

We finished up the trip today mostly concentrating on yellowtail. We kept the wire on in case we got into some wahoo and weren't going to steer away from tuna either. Well we did get a wahoo today. A nice fat one. 60 pounder? We'll see at the dock. We saw a few schools of tuna that wanted nothing to do with us and we saw a few foamers of good grade yellowtails. We got on top of one of those foamers and they flashed us for a second and then left us. We only caught a handfull before they were gone. We chased down a few other schools but they all sank out before we could get to them.

To recap the trip we caught all you want on big fat dorado, lots and lots of school grade yellowfin tuna and had a pretty good catch of wahoo throughout the trip. We spent two full days hunting the cow yellowfin and saw plenty each and all day but only have a couple trophies to show for our efforts. A lot of non biting fish but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes. We only had a couple days of choppy weather and other then that it's been beautiful. We're heading home right now with just a fantastic ride up the line.

Tommy Rothery docked Polaris Supreme at Fisherman's Landing October 5 following a five-day trip. "We had full speed fishing today offshore on kelp patties," read the report from the boat for October 4. "However for the most part, the yellowtail and dorado we were catching were small. So we released all but a few. We did however get some nice grade yellowfin. No big hits, but good action as we picked away at 30 lb. yellowfin. Jeff prepared a great Cajun chicken with avocado, mozzarella and fresh salsa for lunch. And as we head in tonight he is serving us steak and lobster. We will hit the dock tomorrow morning at 8:00 am. He said it came on a sardine, a 2/0 ringed Super Mutu hook, 50-pound Yo-Zuri line on a TLD 30 reel and a six-foot rod of unknown make. Pole said the fish fought for 45 minutes.
