The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

14 yellowtail 150 assorted bottom critters. Couple shots at yellowtail in not so ideal conditions.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with an update from the Coronado Islands. Ryan said, "The Ocean is Alive!" Today we had 120 Yellowtail for our group. The surface iron was very effective today along with the fly-lined baits. We also had a fair amount on Yo-yo iron.

Hopefully this wahoo from the last trip is a good sign of what is to come on our next trip depending tomorrow. A seven day wahoo specific adventure!

Yesterday morning the fishing was great, but mid-day the fish went down. About 4pm we were back into some great action on the albacore and smaller grade blue fin. We also had some really nice hits on the yellowtail. Our weather yesterday and today is good. Today started slow with only a handful of albacore and bluefin. Today we started the day trying for Yellowtail and 20-40lb Bluefin Tuna. It was a great start. We had excellent fishing. We had to leave them biting at 9 am. From then on we changed gears to target larger Bluefin Tuna. Around lunch time we found them. Ranging in size from 70-200 lbs, most ranging from 130-150lbs. Most of them bit the kite, but the bait fish that we caught were landed on 100lb flyline with a size 2/0 Gamakatsu Nautilus HD hook. Getting a bite on heavy line required a small strong hook. If the hook was too big then there was a small chance at a bite. If the line was too light then there was a slim chance at landing the fish. It took the perfect combo for fly lineing to get a bite and to land one of these fish.

We will try for these big boys again tomorrow.

We woke up to jock strap and sun visor weather this morning. Did some rigging and had roast beef in a portabella mushroom sauce for lunch. We had good success acquiring yellowtail and tuna for hors d'oeuvres and proceeded to eat them in the form of sushi and sashimi. Dinner is coming up in a few minutes, halibut in a lemon butter caper sauce. We are going to consolidate our sardines and swing by the bait grounds to pick up a tank of greenies. We will see you tomorrow on the tuna grounds.

Benn making the most of the situation and not dragging passengers offshore to catch nothing. So we have been fishing the Coranado Islands for all you want cod each day and heading offshore in the PM finding very little. Our larger boats went out today catching a handful of Yellowfin so that's a move in the right direction. Thanks!

After another slow day offshore. We have decided to make Monday and Tuesday an island trip. We will be targeting yellowtail, kelp bass, barracuda and we even heard of a bluefin sighting today. Summer island tackle consists of a 25 lb bait rod, a 40 lb yo-yo rod, your favorite jig stick and your favorite kelp bass rod. Passports are required. Reservations are light but both trips are a definite go.
