February 21, 2025 south haven mi Fishing Report

Hello Everyone, Today we had an nice hit on Wahoo. They were big beautiful fish. We managed to get everyone a Wahoo. Along with Wahoo we had some nice Dorado, Tuna, and even a Pargo mixed in. The conditions are really looking up around here! We will be working up trying for Yellowtail Tomorrow. Wish us luck, Team Supreme P.S. For anyone who is considering joining us on the next 5 day, be sure to have some extra owner #10 split rings. In case we need to modify the hooks on your jigs for big Bluefin Tuna.

February 20, 2025 south haven mi Fishing Report

We departed yesterday on the annual Jeff Hall 5-day trip yesterday and pointed it straight for Cedros. We arrived this afternoon and our first anchor job produced about an hour of yellowtail fishing before the bite sizzled away. Checked a couple other spots for not very much before it got dark. We're going to stay the night and spend a full day here tomorrow and take it from there.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-17-2016 #2 I meant to send this picture of the fathom meter this morning but I forgot about it. This is a screenshot of our fathom meter last night when we hooked the 115 pounder that Jack caught. You can see these Bluefin like to hang between 26 to 40 fathoms. That's pretty darn deep. If you look up towards the upper part of the screen, you will see two flat straight lines. One of them is in the middle of the screen at about 4 fathoms and the other is on the left side at about 11 fathoms. That is somebody under the boat using a live bait sinker rig. Also in the center of the screen you'll see a forward slash. It is light in color and broken up starting at about 4 fathoms going down to 12 fathoms. That is somebody winding a jig up. If you look between 7 to 13 fathoms you'll see a jig someone is dropping down. The point I want to make is that these fish are typically deep and you need to be able to get your bait or jig down into the deeper water columns where these fish are at. Knowing this you should be using those big heavy jigs or heavy torpedo sinker to increase your chances of hooking one of these trophy fish. The tuna did not show up. A couple of us saw schools that did not cooperate at all. We picked up a few yellowtail on kelp patties and a handful yellowfin tuna for the day. We are heading home to regroup. We would like to thank Archie Steele and the gang for joining us we had a great time with the crew and some fantastic fishing the first part of the trip. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-20-2016 Good afternoon everyone, Today we started out fishing off the central baja coast, in hopes of lots of large yellowtail and maybe even a Seabass or two. An early wake up call was in order to try for a premium sized yellowtail or Seabass. Unfortunately the fish had other plans. So we pulled the anchor and began searching for any sign of yellowtail. We were not able to find any breaking fish or breezers but the bait life around was astonishing. We worked bait ball after bait ball for nothing. After concluding that the conditions were not panning out we started working our way north. Spot after spot of scratch yellowtail fishing. However there were a few lucky anglers that landed some quality mossbacks. We worked at it till about high noon and then decided to head off shore in hopes of a boomer kelp patty or a biting school of tuna. Water is clean and our hopes are high, Team Supreme

We arrived today at Fisherman's Landing at 7 am after a nice smooth ride last night.  After weighing up the jackpot we were pleasantly surprised with the fact that the yellows were larger than we thought.  Joe Beck took 1st place with a 42.6 lb yellowtail.  Mike Grella took 2nd with a 41.3 yellowtail and Tim Walsh followed it all up with the 3rd place 39.6 lb yellowtail.  Congratulations to our jackpot winners.

The Polaris Supreme will be departing next on Thursday afternoon on a private 1 1/2 day charter sponsored by Optima.  We still have openings on our 3-day departing July 10 as well as other trips throughout the summer.  Give Susan a call to get on board.

Good evening. A sloppy ride last night was forgotten about around 1000 hours this morning as what was a crummy ride a few hours before turned into a stable ride for most of the day. With the bucking seas last night we only had an hour or so of actual stop time if we got into anything special but it never happened. We trolled through beautiful water today but were unable to locate or catch anything. Lack of bait species in the water is probably the reason we didn't see much and hopefully, it's just a matter of time before everything gets in order and we get a shot at some offshore action. We'll see.

The gang broke down tackle today and got caught up on sleep that a bouncy ride deprived them of. The crew scrubbed the boat and took care of a few maintenance projects before days end. Our traditional fillet and lobster dinner was served promptly at 1800 hours and a bow was put on the 2011 Beck/Wagstaff party. We had slow fishing for a couple days to start off the trip but we finished up with a bang and all in all, we call this trip a success. We're grateful for the guys being a great group to have on-board regardless of catching fish or not. They are a fun bunch of passengers to hang out with and for that, we thank them. We also thank Joe Beck and Mal Wagstaff for year after year putting together quite the mix of personalities that make this trip an excellent one to start the season out with.

We're heading home in nice weather and we're prepared for a date with docks tomorrow. Our ETA to Fisherman's Landing is 0700 hours Tuesday morning and we'll be back out Thursday night for a day and a half trip. Time to get local. Chat with you then, good night.
