Ryan Bostian checked in with a report from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay, CA. Today we had 15 anglers catch 9 Bluefin Tuna (60-80 lbs) 1 Yellowfin Tuna (25 lbs). Capt Cameron and the boys had a fine day.

Sep. 19

We didn't start fishing today till around 2:00 in the afternoon. Before that we traveled up in very cool dirty looking fishless water as we expected. Everyone slept in and chilled out while the crew did some maintenence on the boat and did some repairs on monday details. After the boat was in tip top shape we ate fish tacos and got ready to fish. We didn't find any wide open yellowtail fishing but we scrached out an afternoon. We caught 3 a round on mostly good grade yellowtails with a few cows mixed in. 35 pounders is about what they were. So we're traveling up now in good weather to the yellowfin/dorado grounds. We could use a top off on some yellowfin and we can use some more dorado and then we'll have most of a day to fish for the bluefin before we head for home.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 07-28-2016 We finished up our trip today with some scratch yellowtail fishing all morning and then an afternoon of rock cod fishing, all in all a very successful day and trip. Thank you very much Mark Costello and fellow anglers for making it so. Were heading up in some beautiful weather and looking forward to our next group with Tom Chaparro and his limited load of only 18 anglers.We still have openings on our four-day trip after Tom's five day if you would like to come out fishing with us! We are hearing signs of yellowfin tuna that actually wants to bite. We are excited to give it a try here on Tom's trip. And no Mark Castillo group it's not the local stuff! After our previous day of wide open fishing - we had high hopes of the same on giant yellow fin tuna. The day started with Captain Tommy identifying sonar readings of big schools of tuna all around us. We fished hard all day. Kites, sinker rigs, fly line, chunked, jigged, drifted and anchored. Tommy calling out the sonar readings the whole time, ", "big tuna at 20 fathoms" or "we are surrounded by school tuna 10 fathoms to 30 fathoms". We began to doubt Tommy's sonar and guessed that it was just a screen saver image. Then, in the late afternoon, tuna started flying out of the water all around us for a 1/4 mile. 100 lb to 300 lb tuna fully coming out of water and giving us a show and taunting us once more. At the end of the day Greg, Matt and Rick caught larger tuna and kept us from getting skunked. We flushed the stomachs of the tuna and found them stuffed with pelagic crabs. The sardines, mackerel and flying fish we offered were not on their menu. We hear of a place up the line where the yellow tail are biting. We are going there now.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-03-2016 Today was departure day for our Simpatico five day charter with Vernon Burke as our charter head. We got off early without a hitch and picked up some nice bait at the bait receivers. We should make the fishing grounds by 6 PM this afternoon and be able to fish a hour and a half and before dark. We will probably be fishing the large grade Bluefin this trip that is out west of San Diego. This grade of fish is a beautiful size it is 50 to 100 pounds most of it right around 80. This should really test our anglers fishing skills. Wish us luck the Polaris supreme crew.

Very similar to last week with the exception of a big yellowtail day. The potential for a big yellowtail score is definitely out there but several things must come together. On Friday I thought we were going to get our shot. We stopped at a spot and instantly had 8 yellowtail hooked and we were seeing a big school around us. While we were fighting our first 8 fish the motherlode of big bull seal ions came in to ruin our fun. When the dust settled we had only landed 3 and the big school was scared away by the cute cuddly seal ions. Water conditions are about as nice as they could be with temperatures ranging from 67-70 degrees and very clean. The calico bass fishing has been good on the days we get anchovies and the barracuda continue to bite very well at times. All and all we had a very enjoyable week catching surface fish in very nice weather. Hot and sunny in flat calm seas catching gamefish describes our current conditions perfectly. Tackle to bring out remains the same. A 15 or 20 lb. rod to fish anchovies a 25 or 30 lb. rod to fish sardines a 40 lb. jig stick and an assortment of hooks (2's and 2/0's) and small egg or rubber core sinkers (1/8-1/2 oz.) will have you covered.

Let me wine for a few sentences please. With the exception of a 3 day window in the second week, we haven't had two days of good weather in a row in the whole month of August. It's tough to even make it a full day with good weather. Windy August 2013. Screw you August. Needless to say it's not very comfortable traveling right now. Good weather early turned to blown out pre lunch, then backed off for an hour , now blown out again.

OK, I'm done now. Slow fishing today. We had three deals today that didn't bite all that well. 8 out of 1, 14 out of another and then we had 1 for 1 and then we called it a trip. Oh well, we still had an awesome trip. We'll be in tomorrow after 7:00 in the morning and the big guy will be taking it out for a 5 day trip.

Nice yellow Pablo! Made a little bit of squid and things were looking pretty fishy. Got one fish and saw some more. Game fish scene is straightening out.
