Hello there Polaris Supreme fans,

 

Today started off with a bang! around daybreak a 110 pounder comes over the rail! and a few other smaller grade tuna were landed, then out of nowhere we loose our current but that didn't  stop us, We put out the jigs and went into search mode and found what we were looking for WAHOO!!, willing to bite and keep us busy most of the morning and into the late afternoon, with still no current and the wahoo backing off somewhat, back into search mode again we started seeing bird schools in a a different area that looked very promising, we took a tour of the new area and saw plenty of life! In this new area even the bait wanted to bite, so after filling two tanks of big bait we settled in for the night with high hopes for the early morning bite!

Captain Ryan Bostian called in tonight with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego. Today we had a light load of 12 anglers. We decided to move offshore and we had a very good day. We ended up with 60 Yellowtail (LIMITS). We also saw a spot of Bluefin Tuna. But we did not hook one.

If you want to come out with us bring a 25 to 30 pound bait rod. Also bring 40, 50, or 60 pound outfit for Bluefin Tuna. It was about this time last year that we started seeing those nice big Bluefin Tuna.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-22-2016 Good morning everyone from the bridge of the Polaris Supreme. We are certainly holding our heads high after yesterday's action. With a little bit of a scratchy couple of days prior, the switch turned on and it was nothing short of a day that everyone hopes for. The morning pick was nothing to complain about, but right at lunch time, the galley was a ghost town. It was all hands on deck. The grade of fish was a touch on the smaller side to start with some bonito mixed in, but we stayed persistent and fished off the junk. As the afternoon transpired, the size of the yellows just kept getting bigger and bigger. It was a picture perfect yellow bite. Breaking fish, breezers, shiners....surface iron, yo-yo, fly line, dropper loop. We just couldn't miss. Just shows the reward comes when you stick with it and fish hard. The grade of fish was a 15-20 lb average with a handful of stand out 30+ pounders. All and all it was an amazing day out here. We're off to a little bit of a slow start this morning, so we'll just patiently wait til they decide to wake up and get on the chew. Captain Ryan Bostian checked in a few minutes ago with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. We have been fishing the Coronado Islands recently with light loads. Today we had very good fishing. We had 11 anglers catch 28 Yellowtail. The fishing offshore has been tough!

I'm not sure how i feel about today. I know at 3:30 I felt real bad. Extremely frustrated to say the least. 2 of the boats we were fishing with found schools early in the morning and drifted with it most of the day scratching away at the bluefin the whole time while we drove around seeing nothing. The other 2 boats we were with connected around 1:00 in the afternoon and were gettin um, so I was feeling sad and mad. I told Mark to switch gens and broke out the volt meter to see if we had a short somewhere. I figured there had to be a reason we were the only boat not drifting. We were looking in the same water with the same machines trolling the same jigs but just not seeing it. The truth of the matter is there was nothing wrong with the boat, her captain or the crew. Sometimes your just that guy. Sometimes your front row and sometimes your nose bleed.

OK, enough wining. The day turned out just fine. At 3:30 we found a boomer school and drifted on the 25-45 pound bluefin almost till dark. Everyone caught at least one with top dog Phil boating 6 of those beauts. The weather was great in the morning but increased wind velocity throughout the day and it was pretty choppy at dark. So with the weather coming up and our bait situation worsening, we're heading down to fish for yellows and try for some macks.

Tony “Big Delicious” LaDell with 4 of the 50 yellowfin we landed today. We also had 101 skipjack. Still plenty of fish around, all it takes is one stop.

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in this evening. We had 18 passengers catch 6 bluefin tuna from 70-110 pounds. We landed about 1/3 of what we hooked. All you need is a 20 lb Rod for smaller yellowfin. A 50 lb bait Rod with 3/0 circle hooks and a couple 4 oz. torpedos for big fish. And a 60 lb. Rod to fish a flatfall.
