Polaris Supreme Trip Update 07-30-2016 What we started out our first day fishing with great hopes of success catching yellowtail right off the bat on the anchor. Those dreams ended quickly with only a handful of fish off-color dirty water and really not that much life compared to what we had seen in this area before. Knowing we needed to make tracks heading towards what we hope will be tomorrow's hot tuna grounds we quickly departed for offshore kelp patty fishing the rest of the day. Although we were in excellent water and saw plenty of kelp's we had no success. Beautiful weather fun group of guys no fish. That pretty much sums up yesterday. Drew Henderson brought Polaris Supreme home July 5 after a five-day trip with 24 anglers.

"We fished Cedros again a half day," wrote Drew July 3, "and had a nice drift in the morning but then the fish went down quick which has been the routine. We put our anchor down and had a nice pick on the yellows and all the other fish you could catch. We had to bail out at 11:00 a.m. and made a couple stops on the way up the line then we had to go full cruise to get ourselves to the tuna grounds.

"The next day started off painfully slow but right around 1:30 we had our first school and shortly there after we got on another one that we drifted on until dark."

At the dock, Drew summed up his last day of fishing, the 4th of July: "We spent the day looking offshore. We got about 75 fish, and mostly we had three or four going for several hours."

Bob Morehouse of La Crescenta won first place for a 54-pound yellowfin he bagged with a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad hook, with 30-pound Big Game line, a TLD 1`5 reel and a Calstar six-foot rod.

Chris Stavaridis of Venice was second, for a 48-pound tuna, and Tony Sabatino won third place for a 46-pound yellowfin tuna.

Hello everyone, Today we had another nice day of yellowtail fishing. We got a good morning jump on these guys and put quite a few on the boat right off the bat. There has been some tuna schools roaming around this area as well, we picked off a few mixed in with the yellowtail. However when we went out to try and find them we only had a couple jig strikes and skip jack breezers. That about wraps up our Seeker/Sadie Hawkins 3 day charter. Hi friends. We just finished up breaking down tackle, scrubbing/freshwater rinsing the tackle, scrubbing the boat, cleaning the upper deck, and putting fresh line on the handout tackle for our 6-day trip tomorrow. With all the chores completed, I'll give everyone a rundown of our daily events.

The bluefins eluded us today. Well, they eluded our sonar, fathometer, our baits, our hooks, etc. You name it, and they eluded it. We did see plenty of fish but they were all scattered out all over the place. Jumper here, jumper there, single sonar pop here, single sonar pop there. Absolutely no substance to any of it. Very frustrating to say the least. Our tuna count was nothing to write home about but we had a backup plan that we worked to perfection.

After getting the slip from the BFT, we managed to locate numerous kelps and had ourselves a couple of good stops on some Yellowtails to salvage the day. The gang had a rollicking good time and we ended our trip on a high note. Speaking of high notes, our sea conditions were once again fan-freaking-tastic today. The wind, mist, and chilly air kept us bundled up but it burnt off by lunch and we got in a mini bronzing session.

So that was our day in a low cholesterol peanut shell. We went the distance for the gang today and are burning the midnight oil. We stayed out late for Archie and company and our ETA for tomorrow will be 0900 hours. We'll be turning around for a 6-day adventure and we will be guided under the stong hands of Drew "Strong Hands" Henderson.

Hi friends. Today, our good friend and long time Polaris Supreme regular Paul Briscoe told me that my reports were starting sound like Tim's on the Royal Star. First off, I personally enjoy the hell out of reading Tim's reports. That guy is good, real good. Anyhow, today's report will be for Paul so that the people at home can know exactly how our fishing day -- and only our fishing day -- was and no other words. Here it goes.

We woke up this morning, did a seminar. Midway through the seminar, Drew literally ran over a school of yellowfin tuna, dorado, and yellowtail and we began fishing. It was aquarium-style fishing on football yellowfins with a handful of thirty pounders thrown in there too. After that, we drove around all day getting occasional stops on those thirty to fifty pound yellowfin tuna. We ended our day 32 of those beautiful yellowfin, a bunch of footballs, and some flatheads thrown in for color. The weather was flat calm and the bronzing was delicious. We'll be here tomorrow trying for more fat yellowfin and we'll hopefully be the lucky boat to drift on 80-130 lb. bluefin like one boat did today. Maybe I'll tell some stories tomorrow, like how I jumped in the water to save Eric Kinnicutt's fish from being all wrapped up in the propellers and rudders. It was fun. See you later.

July 9

We had another good morning today. We got on the fish around 6:30 in the morning and fished it until it went dead at 8:30. 20-25 pound yellowtail. Uh huh. After that we scratched another dozen fish on a few stops and decided to take off around 10 in the morning. We looked around until dark in good looking water but never found anything. A lifeless ocean outside the islands unfortunately.

So we have to head north tonight and we'll be looking for tuna tomorrow until we have to go home. The weather is starting to get choppy where we are now. My legs are spread outside my shoulders to help keep my balance. I think we should have some descent weather where we'll be tomorrow morning but it looks like the wind is on it's way.

Captian Ryan Bostian called in this evening with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. We had our first trip of the year today and we caught 42 Yellowtail (18 to 25 pounds). This was our first trip after doing a couple months of boat work. We did catch fish on using surface iron and yoyo too! If you plan on coming out on the San Diego please be prepared to fish both Surface Iron and Yoyo. You might also want to bring a bait stick too!
