rapidan river Fishing Report 2024

Mike Pritchard called in to wrap of the fishing day for the Tribute. "All-in-all a pretty good fishing day. We started off with Bluefin. We ended up catching 21 Bluefin and went on to fish some kelps later in the day. On the kelps we caught 54 Yellowtail, 4 Dorado and 5 Skipjack. The weather has been very nice. We just finished up our day around 5:00 o'clock.

Polaris Supreme arrived August 23 with skipper Drew Henderson at the wheel. Ryan Christianson of San Diego was chartermaster for the 24 anglers aboard on the Let's Talk Hookup trip. Mark Greul of Omaha, NE presented a 58-pound yellowfin at the scales and won first place for his effort. He said his fish bit a sardine on a 3/0 Flyliner hook tied to 30-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon and 30-pound Ande line. He used a Torium 30 reel and a Seeker Black Steel C8 seven and a half-foot rod. Richard Miller of Jackson won second place for a 40-pound albacore. Mark Cornoll of Jackson won third place for a 31.6-pound yellowtail.

We are just wrapping up our trip here at Guadalupe Island. The grade was incredible and they bit awesome! Can’t wait for our next trip!

We just received word from the county that we are clear to go fishing starting tomorrow We will be fishing offshore for tuna and yellowtail. Please bring a 25 lb bait rod a 40 or 50 lb bait rod and a then a setup capable of landing a 100+ pound fish. Assorted circle hooks and some fluorocarbon. Hello friends. Our day didn't set the world on fire by any means but it was an interesting day of tuna fishing out here. Our weather was calm throughout the day with only a mild groundswell and although the stops were few and far between, we did manage one of the better scores for the area. In the morning, we had some jig strikes to wake us up, shortly after, we had a whack on some Bluefin, and then our day was pieced together by a few Albacore stops. We had a few jig strikes that turned into us hooking a couple of bait fish each stop but like I said, they were hard to come by. We just didn't see a large volume of fish and we consider ourselves very fortunate and are thankful for our day. We finished the day with 11 gorgeous, fatso Albacore in the 28-38 lb. class and 13 Bluefin in the 15 lb. range.

Who knows, maybe this Albacore area will develop into something later in the season. Be sure to check the website for some more of these 1.5-day trips and 2 -day trips we've put on the schedule. There's still a lot of fish in a couple different areas and they show no sign of bailing just yet and with the success of these past short trips, we've put a few more on the schedule to target Albacore, Bluefin, and Yellowfin tuna along with some Yellowtail and Dorado. Hi friends. We departed the docks this evening at 1800 hours for a 1.5 day trip, loaded up on some beautiful Sardines, and began motoring out to our fishing destination for tomorrow. It's a new area of fish that includes Bluefin tuna that range from the school grade of a 15 lb. average, all the way up to fish in the 40-60 lb. range, the area also includes a few Albacore in the 25 lb. category, and some school-sized Yellowfin tuna as well. Fishing two days ago was decent enough to garner our attention and gathering reports from the boats who were in the area today was that there is no shortage of fish out there, they just weren't in the biting mood today. Let's hope that tomorrow the fish get frisky and we'll see if we can't get lucky and find ourselves a school of willing biters. We felt that motoring out this way would give us the best chance of fish along with having more fishing time to spend out here. We'll be there first thing in the morning to see what's up and cross your fingers that we get something located.

So that is all. Our weather is a little choppy but we'll take it. The forecast calls for decent weather and we're praying that the weatherman is correct. Bottom line, this report pretty much sums up fishing in a nut-shell. We hope that we find some fish, we hope that we catch some fish, and we hope that the weather is nice. We had a nice hit on the wahoo before we had to pull anchor and head for home. This was a great group of anglers and we had a great trip. The weather however is not nice. It is going to be a rough bumpy ride. And the forecast for tomorrow isn't looking much better. We had a delicious fresh Mahi Mahi in a fresh basil pesto sauce with fresh vegetables and potato patties. We should be at the dock Sunday morning at 7am. Come down and see us.

Aug 18

Today was a good day. We got into the yellowtail mid morning and it was game on till lunch time. The grade wasn't the best but it was good enough. 12 up to 22 pounds and all in between. We had the passengers save some tags for the bigguns though the common grounds looked dead so we traveled to new grounds and connected near the end of the day. Everyone had a few more shots at them before we had them wind um up so we could put ourselves in position to be at the bluefin grounds before daylight.

The weather today was great. Cold but windless and on a boat thats all we care about. No wind no sea. Shawn through out a kick but appetizer spread and we're preparing to eat a seared ahi dinner. Can't wait. Gotta go.

Mama Bear- Little Bear still has both feet planted on the boat and is doing great.

Is it wrong to be long? Not for our angler Mike Cohen! In a game of inches he was able to land the longest Wahoo of the day. The prize for his capture is a brand new Diawa Saltiga HA. Great job Mike! We would like to thank Diawa for their generous donation this trip. As well as BD Outdoors and Performance Tackle for all they contributed to make this trip a fun filled seven days! The prizes are great and the company is fantastic! Cant ask for much more!
