mn Fishing Report 2025

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay, CA. The water rolled at the Coronado Islands and the Yellowtail have stopped biting. We had 5 Bluefin Tuna today. We had 3 fish around 75 pounds and 1 fish weighing in at 120 pounds and the biggest fish was a 130 pounder.

The fish are biting fly-lined baits but they are really biting the Poppers. Make sure you bring you 50 pound out at a minimum.
We have seen some fishing pushing 200 pounds but we have not caught one of them yet!

Today we spent the day in the crows nest looking for kelps. We had 73 degree water and flat seas . We were able to find some nice kelp patties with some Dorado and a few Wahoo on them. Nice little hits of action through out the day. Tomorrow we will be at Guadalupe Island to try for trophies. Here we have Gary with a great kelp patty Dorado on the light line!  Well this day has to start with last night.  During and after dinner the military helicopters were up and they were blowing up San Clemente and it was rad. We could see the tracers which were very bright and flew just as fast as the 5 rounds in between each tracer with about each strafing run having about 12 tracers per, which is over 100 rounds.  We could see the glow of each tracer bouncing off the island. And after we thought it was cool enough we went to bed.

 In the morning we started fishing.  We had a little action.  We basically drifted for a couple hours hooking fish.  Sometimes we had one going, sometimes we had four, and sometimes we had none but for some reason it didn't add up to as much as we would've thought.  We were losing alot and we attributed that to the hammer head sharks that were swimming around.  We think that they were stealing a lot of the tuna we hooked.  When that dried up we went searching and a little after 10:00 we found a dandy school and went sideways(drifted) for a while.  I'd have to call it almost wide open for about 1/2 an hour and then a pick for 15 minutes after that.  During lunch we were drifting on tuna too but we weren't hooking a whole lot.  We only caught about six that time.  And after that the life vanished so we moved on.

 It took a couple hours but we found what we were looking for.  Tuna.  Unfortunately they were the non biting ones.  I'll tell you though, it was a sight to see.  Sonar schools, breezers, boilers, foamers.  You name it, it was awesome.  We did get a couple descent drifts there in the end and all and all we're calling this a very successfully trip.

 We'll be dockside until Oct. 3.  You guys didn't book.  My babies going to have to wear hand me down shoes now.  All of her friends are going to make fun of her.  Oh well.  We"ll get through it.  We'll do a little maintenance on the boat while we're in but we don't need to do much.  The boats been running great as soon as we got rid of those early season gremlins.  See you all Oct. 3rd.
        

Big Bluefin on the Brain! Were able to scoop up some big Flying Fish on our way up the line! These flyers will be the perfect size bait for the local giant Bluefin Tuna. Recently the hot ticket has been: Heavy Flat falls in the dark, frozen Flying Fish on the kite, and trolling the Yummee flyer. We individually wrap our flying fish in saran wrap so they do not stick together when we freeze them. These ones are ready and on stand by for the big ones!

Today was a tough day. The fish were there and the conditions were good, the fish were just less eager. Everyone was on the right program when it came to hustling the fish in to avoid the sharks. Today we we picked at the quality Tuna we have been after. Many successes before the sharks took their share. The fish were on both live bait and chunk bait. It was nice catching them on the chunk because we were able to use big hooks and heavy line. As opposed to small hooks and light line.

Pictured here is a neat looking Pilot Fish. Really cool looking blue fish with black stripes. They hang out with sharks waiting for bits and pieces from a kill to float back to them. Also pictured is a delicious sashimi spread prepared by chef Mike!

Capt Ryan from the San Diego from their 3/4 day trip as Capt Tarro to report they caught 82 Yellowtail for the day. If your headed down south make sure to bring all your Yellowtail gear, bring a flyline rig, yoyo rig and a surface iron rig. As of right now we have a small load for tomorrow and we are are go, so come on down and get in on this action.
