Aug. 21

We had a good morning today. We managed to be the lucky boat and found a school of bluefin that stuck with the boat and we were able to scratch at them for several hours before having to move. The grade of fish was all mixed up from 15 pounds up to 40 pounds. After that we searched a lot of water and only found 1 school that wouldn't have anything to do with us. It just swam away. There were a few other schools in the area for other boats that did the same thing.

The weather today was OK in the morning then breezed up pretty good in the afternoon and then it backed off at dark. The forecast was down graded from what it was calling for and is now showing pretty good weather for the next few days so we're stoked about that. We hope they're right this time.

We're currently heading for the yellowfin grounds due to the poor reports in the yellowtail grounds. There will be a few of us looking around there tomorrow so hopefully we'll be able to get them located.

Today our 22 anglers landed 44 Yellowtail and 19 Bonito.  Tomorrow is a definite go with a light load.  Get out and enjoy this fishing before the bad weather starts.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-09-2016 Good afternoon and thanks for checking in. We gave it a solid effort throughout the night for some greenies a.k.a green back mackeral to replenish our bait supply but they just didn't want to cooperate on a full speed basis. However, the we did manage to get quite a few in the tank. At 0530 we went right into yellowtail fishing. It was certainly a pleasant start having the wind subside from the two days prior. It just makes for an all around better day. We didn't fair out too bad in terms of finding spot after spot of fish, these things just seemed to have a little case of lock jaw. They come up boiling, showing real well, but only a handful at a time decided to take what we had to offer. Regardless, there was a descent morning put together by the guys. With everything really starting to mellow out and bite less as the morning went on, we decided to point north and gain some latitude to ensure everyone a final shot in the morning at tagging some fish before we have to call it a trip. Right now we are in some absolutely beautiful offshore water that should produce a nice sun downer stop. About another hour til Chef Mike lays out a nice coconut crusted yellowtail dinner and we call it a day. Thanks again for stopping by and we'll check back in tomorrow. Tight lines, Team Supreme

    We started our morning off again in the local bluefin zone.  Things felt a little better.  There were only about half the boats that were there the day before.  It had a much less claustrophobic feel to it.  Unfortunately the bluefin didn't seem to care.  It was on the slow side.  In 4 hours we managed 9 of them with 20 yellowfin to go along with them.  We left for the day and looked around for schools.  We scratched here and there throughout the day.  We had some reports of spots of 100+ pounders up so we made it there for the evening hit but never found a school of those.  We did catch some nice grade yellowfin though so with those and the sign of the 100 + pounders we know where we're starting tomorrow.  But first things first, we're going to run into the beach and try for bait tonight and as I write this we just finished up and we're headed back out with a couple tanks of mackerel and a couple tanks of sardine that we still have for ammo.
                            

 

With great anticipation of a light load aboard the Apollo, all 14 of us anglers showed up at the dock early, swapping stories about past trips. We started boarding about 9:30pm and were greeted by Capt JJ Gerritsen and the rest of his crew, we signed in and had a seat for our safety briefing. Capt JJ then asked if we wanted to head offshore for Albacore which had dramatically slowed down the last couple days or head south along the coast for a shot at Dorado and Yellowfin and Yellowtail patty hopping. Without much hesitation we decided to head south and patty hop. We got the feathers in at gray light and started the troll, within 15 minutes the yell of "Hook-up" sang out, unfortunately the mystery fish got away and we were under way again. Five minutes later we heard that yell again, the mystery fish won round two and will live another day. Third time's a charm didn't hold true for us, our third hook-up is still out there in the deep blue. At that point the first troll rotation was fired (which included me) and the second shift took over. Within 10 minutes they had our first fish on the deck, a skipjack, from that point on while looking for patties we boated about 19 skipjack. We found our first patty around 10am and moved in with hopes of a wide open bite, but to our dismay there was nobody home. That held true for the next 8 patties we found, then finally around noon with a mouth full of burger, we heard the call to get ready. Never fails every time your food is done, it's time to drop a line. As soon as our sardines hit the water the patty expolded, we ended up with 1 Dorado and 2 Yellowtail. We only found two two more patties holding fish and ended up with 1 more Dorado and 4 yellowtail. It was now time to head back to port and we again set out the troll lines and managed to pick up 7 Yellowfin Tuna on the way back in. Hello Everyone, We are rolling down today, mainly a rigging day. We are trying to get all of our gear ready for the rest of the trip. From wire leaders to dropper loop rigs we are getting it all set up for the 7 days to come. Great food, great weather, great company. Will report again tomorrow, Team Supreme

 Hello again everybody. I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely Labor Day today. I know we sure did. It's hard not to with the kind of weather we're having right now. We could have not caught a fish today and we'd still be enjoying it. That's not how it went though. It went as planned. I knew we wouldn't have the kind of day we had yesterday. Wahoo fishing doesn't work that way. They need a rest after a whoopin. I told the passengers we'd stay until lunch and if we caught a quarter of what we caught yesterday we'd be stoked. We caught more then a quarter of what we caught yesterday and we're stoked. Distance wise it didn't make since to stick it out until dark for a few more handfuls of wahoo as apposed to leaving at lunch like we did to get into tomorrows fishing grounds at a reasonable hour. So we took off at lunch time and we'll be in the yellowtail grounds tomorrow at daylight. At least I'm hoping it's the yellowtail grounds.
