Hello. Our first, full travel day was somewhat uneventful by normal standards but by our standards, it was a riot. We worked out, ate breakfast, fiddled about various boat/rigging projects, held a couple of seminars, rigged more tackle, and then, we ate lunch, napped, ate some more, rigged more tackle, and enjoyed dinner and a movie. That was pretty much our day in a nutshell.

Highlights of the day for me: 1. Mark trolled all morning for not even a sniff of a jig strike and then I relieved him of his duties so that he could eat lunch. I took my shirt off, sat in the chair for what I'm guessing was thirteen minutes and then, bam! Jig strike! How you like me now, Clark? Granted, it was about a an 8 lb. Yellowtail but the rest of his buddies were pretty hungry and we broke up the ride by pulling on some of his companions -- so that was fun. 2. Putting a bunch of dead bait and other nonsense into a food processor to feed to our bait. It's most likely the happiest bait on the planet right now as they were fattened up all day. I'm serious, they're getting the "bluefin tuna in the pens" treatment. They are happy. 3. The movie "Flight". I only was able to catch the first half of what I first thought was "Requiem For A Dream Part II" but then the airplane stuff started. I'm sorry if this statement is insensitive but Denzel Washington can sure make a cocaine-using, alcoholic, cigarette-smoker look so good in a movie. Great actor. Can't wait to see how the rest of the film plays out.

Anyhow, not too much to report today other than my usual idiotic banter. Oh yeah, before I forget. After twelve years in this business, I finally got to examine and learn about a new species of fish I've never heard about nor seen: a "Mid-Shipman (?)" I believe is what it is called. Of all the places to examine and identify this new creature, it was dead on the fuel dock. That's the advantage of having a stud biologist on the boat. Thanks, Scootch. Basically, this thing looks like a Catfish without whiskers and that's what we were calling it until Uncle Scootch swooped in and set us straight.

So that's all. Tomorrow, we'll be driving by Rocas Alijos and we'll give it a try for some Yellowtail for tacos and roe to feed the bait. We'll make our intended destination around lunch time and then we'll be headed back on our merry way. Thanks for checking in.

An 81-pound bigeye tuna that came out of a school of albacore was the first tuna of its kind to come in on a long range boat this season, and it won the Polaris Supreme jackpot for rookie angler Carl Geosana of Whittier at Fisherman's Landing July 14.

Drew Henderson skippered the five-day trip with 24 anglers, and was the beneficiary of a tip from Doug Reed and the Renegade that put him on the albacore, which have staged a badly needed re-bite at about 90 miles from San Diego.

Henderson said a second bigeye, a fish in the 120-pound class was hooked.

"Everybody on the crew pulled on it," said Henderson, "for over an hour. We had it close enough to bring out a gaff once, but it took off again, and finally busted the 30-pound line it was hooked on."

Geosana said he spent an hour and 15 minutes on the 81-pounder.

"I almost went overboard when he bit," said Carl. "He went down, and then he pulled me up to the bow, and I had to get over the anchor there at least ten times. He kept making runs, until the reel got red hot."

Carl said he fished a sardine on a 3/o Eagle Claw hook, and used 30-popund Big Game line, a Penn 500 reel and a seven-foot Ugly Stick rod.

Greg Hannond of Huntington Beach was second, for a 42.6-pound albacore, and Brad Hall of San Diego won third place for a 42.4-pound albie. Skipper Henderson said his anglers had a very good catch of yellowtail and some bluefin tuna and were "‚Д¶just short of limits of the albacore. At least half the guys did get limits."

You know today I was thinking what a great job I have! Of course the weather is flat calm, that helps. No we didn't kick the heck out of a bunch of fish, but I did get to fish all day and was not stuck in traffic once. We did land 18 school Tuna and 5 nice yellowtail, on kelp's, Dolphin, blind jig strikes and other assorted methods. We saw close to a hundred pie plate size baby turtles, along with fin-back whales, blue whales, and big albatross birds.The day was finished with good news from our buddy boat who had some incredible yellowtail fishing in which we will be waking up to bright and early tomorrow morning! Hello everyone how about a little recap of our seven day AHI Charter. We spent two days traveling down to the hot Wahoo grounds in absolutely beautiful flat, whether enjoying the company of all of our good friends old and new! From there proceeded to have some of the most awesome Wahoo fishing for the next three days with a few hundred football yellowfin tuna and a handful of quality Dorado thrown in. The next day we spent scrounging around for a shot at giving everybody a chance to catch a yellowtail. And here we are today traveling up and doing what we always do on the last day hanging out telling stories taking naps and oh yeah we have Wi-Fi so burning up megabytes on Mexicans tell cell. We will be into the dock tomorrow morning and unload our beautiful catch. If you got a chance swing by the landing at daylight and take a peek. Thank you charter master Dallas Lamb and Vance Willer for putting together a great group of guys and a super fun experience for everyone. The Polaris supreme will be at the dock until November 6 doing boat work and then we will depart on our limited load 10 day trip with Jim Holman and the boys! We still have room for four or anglers if you would like to join us November 6 for some of the most impressive Wahoo fishing we have ever seen in the fall. The boat's E-mail program is down at the moment but Tommy called in to say that fishing for yellowtail was very good on Tuesday and they left them biting. Today they fished tuna and had very good fishing on two stops for bluefin and yellowfin. The weather is up but Tommy says that the passengers are hanging in there. The boats eta tomorrow is set for 7:00 am and hopefully the E-mail issues will be taken care of. Any changes in the eta, please call the office at 619 390 7890. Thanks, Susan.

Hi folks. We rode with the wind and swell last night and found ourselves in the familiar Yellowtail spots. Our first spot of the day produced quality sized Yellowtail on long drifts. This mornings fishing was a yo-yo fisherman's paradise on the Polaris Supreme as we hooked most of our fish on the heavy jigs. We didn't exactly set the world on fire with our numbers but we always managed a handful or two on every drift until after lunch when things finally dried up. It took us a couple of hours to locate something that we liked and our last couple hours of the day were spent bent. Sonar schools of Yellowtail charged the Supreme with reckless abandon and it was as good as it gets there for a while. This particular spot was surface iron-friendly so that's always exciting and we finished our day on a high note. The fish we caught this morning were in the 18-22 lb. range and the fish this afternoon were a notch smaller. Big fish of the day was a 30 pounder caught around dinner time by Dan "Re-Ride" Burns.

So that is all. Just another solid day of Yellowtail fishing and with the offshore weather still on the up, we're going to spend a half day here tomorrow and then move on up the line back to the tuna grounds. Fishing sounds the same as it has from the area. If you're the lucky boat, you're pumped. If you're not, well, it's going to be a long day. Anyhow, we're going to give it a try for our last day of fishing but before we get too ahead of ourselves, we need to do some more work on Yellowtail. Wish us luck.

Good evening friends. It sure felt like a slow day from the tuna grounds today but judging by the scores from the other boats, we did just fine. Some boats would've killed for our score and some boats would've said that we did have a slow day, so we were smack-dab right in the middle and the range of scores was quite large. Some boats really had a tough time of it today and some boats were the lucky few that managed to get a nice hit on the Yellowfins. We had a slow morning with a jig strike here or there and then mid-day, we had a couple of schools that rushed the boat and we had a nice whack on 'em to boost the count and our morale. But other than a few more jig strikes later in the day, it was a mediocre day and with the weather up and forecasted to stay up, we're heading down to do some Yellowtail fishing tucked behind an island somewhere. With the lack of sign for most of the fleet, we feel that the fish in the area are just weather sensitive, so we'll give them some time to regroup and will give them a try later in the trip when things hopefully settle down with the weather.

So that is all. Our traveling weather is decent and we're getting prepared for an island invasion of some sort. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you manana.

Good evening everyone. We arrived to Fisherman's Landing this morning promptly at 0630 and busted out the usual routine of unloading passengers/gear, unloading fish, refueling, cleaning, outfitting the bunks with fresh linens, loading groceries, and loading a whole new batch of passengers and their gear. This morning, there was no particular order to all of our chores as eight long-range boats returned to the various landings and we just wanted to get the heck out of that mess at the top of the docks. Kudos to the "Red Shirts" as they were just as busy as us unloading gear, unloading fish, organizing carts, pushing carts, and loading everyone in a civilized manner. Anyhow, here are the big fish winners from Ryan Christianson's Let's Talk Hook Up four-day adventure: Henry "Blue" Maine - 58.8 lb. Yellowfin tuna, Kiyoshi Nakagawa - 34.0 lb. Albacore, and Kevin Graff - 31.8 lb. Albacore. Congratulations to the gang and we issue a big thanks to Ryan for putting on a fine trip.

Later this morning, we departed on our annual Bob Vance/Joe Beck five-day extravaganza with a bunch of their good pals. We tried fishing the local-local zone but for fear of losing our title of being a "long-range" boat, we decided to motor on down to the hot area from the past couple of trips. Reports still sound good on the Yellowfin tuna and one boat saw a few schools of those bigger Bluefin and they managed to land some 60 lbers. We'll be giving it a go tomorrow morning at first light.
