lower potomac Fishing Report 2025

Nov. 12

Not too much to report today, but we got our lines in the water, and ended up with a few varieties of fish chilling in the refrigerated sea water. We ended up at sort of a one-stop-shop in that we caught the three species that we were targeting all on the anchor. That is not typical fishing, down this way. We usually find the fish one species at a time. Half the boat caught a wahoo today so that's not a bad start and we caught quite a few 15-30 pound yellowtails too with a handfull of call them 25-40 pound tuna as well. Weather continues to be nice, with a bit of wind that popped up later on in the day. It was great to finally use some of that tackle today, that we've spent so much time rigging over the past few days. Now we can get down to the serious business of (hopefully) catching some creatures from the deep blue sea to bring home, and share with our families at the dinner table.All is well aboard the Polaris Supreme, and it's first call for our evening meal consisting of pork chops, apple sauce, and assorted goodies.  Good evening all and welcome back once again to the Polaris Supreme.  Well we're in November now and with that comes a true fall 10 day trip.  We took some time off if you didn't notice.  We spent 2 weeks dockside with just a little bit of boat work to do so we had some time to ourselves.  I didn't follow what the other crew did too much.  I was to busy with a 7 month old which by the way is getting better and better and I didn't think it could.  She's hard to leave but fishing calls.

 So we're off and running.  We got a full load of should be good bait and we're headed to destinations undecided at the moment.  One thing we know is we'll be in full travel mode tomorrow so we'll have a relaxing day of tackle rigging and seminars.  The fishing sounds pretty fair at the moment.  Plenty of action on smaller grade of 10-30 pound fish in areas.  There is also some wahoo to catch if your timing is good.  There hasn't been sign of any big tuna in about a week now but we may be able to blame windy conditions and a very bright moon on that.  Right now things are changing and for us, we hope that's a good thing.

 One last thing.  It's Movember and I am sporting a very creepy stache right now.  It's a 2 week stache and it's just not long enough to look cool yet.  But I guess it's a good cause.  My hero's on the LA Clippers think so anyways.  I'll check back tomorrow but I dought(spell check tells me that dought is spelled wrong.  Facebook the right way please} I'll have much to report it being a travel day and all.

Good evening everyone. We departed earlier this evening for our second annual Optima charter with Garth and his best of buddies. We loaded up on some bait that doesn't look all that stellar but maybe after it settles down, they'll turn into some champions. Anyhow, we're on our way down to try our hand at some Bluefin tuna offshore and some Yellowtail on kelps. Apparently, the Yellowtail are growing a little bit, if you can locate the right kelp as one of our code boats did, and caught some 'tails in the 15-22 lb. range. Regardless, we'll be looking first thing tomorrow morning and we'll try to make a day of it. Our weather is beautiful and we're looking for more. Wish us luck.

 

Captain Ryan Bostian from San Diego Sportfishing checked in.  42 pass. 1 bluefin tuna 103 yellowtail 41 bonito. Flylined bait, surface iron and yo yo all produced!

44 pass. 156 yellowtail 17 barracuda 5 kelp bass. Flylined bait, surface iron and yo-yo. Passports required.

Hooked 10, but they are mean and like to destroy your gear. Ended with 4 Bluefin all around #70 pounds for our 5 anglers. 

From Brook Trout to Big Yellowtail! Siblings Tom and Mary Chaparro have been fishing buddies since the early days. They started out catching Brook and Golden Trout in the mountains when they were kids, now catching Yellowfin Tuna and Yellowtail on Toms annual 7 day trip. Keep it up you two! A tad bit breezy today, but still plenty comfortable. Will report again tomorrow, Team Supreme
