lbj Fishing Report 2025

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

36 yellowtail 1 calico bass. Did a lot of driving to get a few good shots. Conditions seemed to be improving today, hoping for a big hit in the near future.

The old timers used to say “ wind from the south, fish close their mouth”. Today we had a brisk south wind all day and the yellowtail were a bit off. We saw plenty of fish and managed to land 83. Flylined baits and yo-yo jigs were the best today.

Friday 2-day trip July 6

Good Morning Anglers!

I've been keeping in touch with Art on the Searcher the last three days. He's been fishing bluefin at 160 miles on his four day trip with great success! Sunday with over 100 bluefin. Monday he had 55 bluefin. That day another boat fished with him traveling down and got 80 bluefin. This morning at 8:00 the Searcher already had 15 bluefin.

The grade of this fish is 20-30 lbs. and occasionally somebody gets on the 90 lb. grade. So don't forget a 50lb. 2-speed reel for that class.

We offer free loaner gear if you need it. Their weather has been good.

The weather forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is 5-10 knots. You can follow the weather on Passageweather.com. Also a big bonus on Saturday will be our Sportfishing Association spotter plane to put us on kelps and schools of bluefin. The *POLARIS SUPREME* two day trip departing this Friday at 1pm in the afternoon is set up to target this fish at that distance. We will be able to fish Saturday from the crack, 5am till dark, 8pm. Thus having a full day in this area and returning at 11am on Sunday.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 8-2-2017 Well I did find some photos of Tom Chaparros trip. One of the crew took a dozen pictures on his cell phone while he was running around working! As well as thinking Tom and the gang for a great fun filled trip I would like to extend a special thanks to Herb Yamanaka for bringing custom-made solid wood bowls to give out to all of the anglers and crew on the trip. Herb does this every year and the workmanship of his gifts are absolutely superb! Thank you Herb Tom and gang for a fun six days the Polaris supreme crew!

We departed today with Chaparro's annual lite load charter. This is his 10th year! A fun group as always and the guys are anxious to get their lines wet. We got a nice load of bait and headed out west looking for albacore and yellowfin with only a few landed.

There were plenty of seiners. Our weather continues to be good. As we dine on steak and lobster we are looking forward to tomorrow to do some kelping. Our web master who handles all our updates will be out fishing himself for the next few days, so there won't be any reports posted until Thursday. Give Susan a call if you have any questions. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-03-2016 Today was departure day for our Simpatico five day charter with Vernon Burke as our charter head. We got off early without a hitch and picked up some nice bait at the bait receivers. We should make the fishing grounds by 6 PM this afternoon and be able to fish a hour and a half and before dark. We will probably be fishing the large grade Bluefin this trip that is out west of San Diego. This grade of fish is a beautiful size it is 50 to 100 pounds most of it right around 80. This should really test our anglers fishing skills. Wish us luck the Polaris supreme crew.

Hello friends. Another day here on the Yellowtail grounds and we had yet again, another fine morning fishing. It wasn't the hottest of bites, but it was a nice pick at some 12-20 lb. Yellowtail for our morning efforts. When the bite had shut down, we made a move and dodged the wind that was chasing us down like a we had taken Mother Nature's purse and made it into some calmer water to try our luck with some exotics. We hooked a few and landed a couple and when all was said and done, a couple of Broomtail Groupers and a nice Halibut laid victim to our offerings and are currently en route back to San Diego for a date with the dinner table. We enjoyed ourselves a fine meal in the calm waters of one of our favorite hangouts and once the last ice cream sundae was served, we had to make turns back for San Diego.

With that said, the boats that have been motoring up the line have been making terrible speed up the line, so we're just going to take a nice, easy course up the line and see what happens with our speed. If we make good speed, we'll do a little fishing. If not, we'll bundle everything up and get this ship back in to shape while the passengers watch movies, read books, nap and eat. We're shooting for an ETA back to the dock at around 0800 hours. Thanks for checking in.
