Hi friends. Tough day out here on the Bluefin grounds for us. We saw a whole lot of fish today but we only had a couple of drifts that produced numbers for us. We had a respectable day but with the volume of fish we saw this afternoon, we were really hoping for a banner day but it never happened. The weather was beautiful once again so we're pumped about that but we were really hoping for another drift like we had yesterday. Anyhow, that's fishing and we're currently enjoying a southeasterly course to our next destination.

For tomorrows agenda, we'll be looking for bait and Yellowtail. It's time for a change of pace and we're hoping to get bent on some yella and some carnada manana. The gang is doing just fine and they're all having just a splendid time. It's dinner time and I have no idea what we're having. Some type of stuffed pork chop in a puff pastry or something. Chef Shawn, he's crazy. We'll chat with you tomorrow.

I have the Apollo in Santa Barbara again for the spring Channel Islands season. We are chartered on most of our weekend dates but here are a few options if you would like to get out fishing with us while we are up north. First we have a 2-day charter coming this weekend (Sat and Sun March 29/30). This regular charter group only takes 15 people and they are short 2 spots. The boat's E-mail program is down at the moment but Tommy called in to say that fishing for yellowtail was very good on Tuesday and they left them biting. Today they fished tuna and had very good fishing on two stops for bluefin and yellowfin. The weather is up but Tommy says that the passengers are hanging in there. The boats eta tomorrow is set for 7:00 am and hopefully the E-mail issues will be taken care of. Any changes in the eta, please call the office at 619 390 7890. Thanks, Susan.

Hi folks. We rode with the wind and swell last night and found ourselves in the familiar Yellowtail spots. Our first spot of the day produced quality sized Yellowtail on long drifts. This mornings fishing was a yo-yo fisherman's paradise on the Polaris Supreme as we hooked most of our fish on the heavy jigs. We didn't exactly set the world on fire with our numbers but we always managed a handful or two on every drift until after lunch when things finally dried up. It took us a couple of hours to locate something that we liked and our last couple hours of the day were spent bent. Sonar schools of Yellowtail charged the Supreme with reckless abandon and it was as good as it gets there for a while. This particular spot was surface iron-friendly so that's always exciting and we finished our day on a high note. The fish we caught this morning were in the 18-22 lb. range and the fish this afternoon were a notch smaller. Big fish of the day was a 30 pounder caught around dinner time by Dan "Re-Ride" Burns.

So that is all. Just another solid day of Yellowtail fishing and with the offshore weather still on the up, we're going to spend a half day here tomorrow and then move on up the line back to the tuna grounds. Fishing sounds the same as it has from the area. If you're the lucky boat, you're pumped. If you're not, well, it's going to be a long day. Anyhow, we're going to give it a try for our last day of fishing but before we get too ahead of ourselves, we need to do some more work on Yellowtail. Wish us luck.

Good evening friends. It sure felt like a slow day from the tuna grounds today but judging by the scores from the other boats, we did just fine. Some boats would've killed for our score and some boats would've said that we did have a slow day, so we were smack-dab right in the middle and the range of scores was quite large. Some boats really had a tough time of it today and some boats were the lucky few that managed to get a nice hit on the Yellowfins. We had a slow morning with a jig strike here or there and then mid-day, we had a couple of schools that rushed the boat and we had a nice whack on 'em to boost the count and our morale. But other than a few more jig strikes later in the day, it was a mediocre day and with the weather up and forecasted to stay up, we're heading down to do some Yellowtail fishing tucked behind an island somewhere. With the lack of sign for most of the fleet, we feel that the fish in the area are just weather sensitive, so we'll give them some time to regroup and will give them a try later in the trip when things hopefully settle down with the weather.

So that is all. Our traveling weather is decent and we're getting prepared for an island invasion of some sort. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you manana.

Good evening everyone. We arrived to Fisherman's Landing this morning promptly at 0630 and busted out the usual routine of unloading passengers/gear, unloading fish, refueling, cleaning, outfitting the bunks with fresh linens, loading groceries, and loading a whole new batch of passengers and their gear. This morning, there was no particular order to all of our chores as eight long-range boats returned to the various landings and we just wanted to get the heck out of that mess at the top of the docks. Kudos to the "Red Shirts" as they were just as busy as us unloading gear, unloading fish, organizing carts, pushing carts, and loading everyone in a civilized manner. Anyhow, here are the big fish winners from Ryan Christianson's Let's Talk Hook Up four-day adventure: Henry "Blue" Maine - 58.8 lb. Yellowfin tuna, Kiyoshi Nakagawa - 34.0 lb. Albacore, and Kevin Graff - 31.8 lb. Albacore. Congratulations to the gang and we issue a big thanks to Ryan for putting on a fine trip.

Later this morning, we departed on our annual Bob Vance/Joe Beck five-day extravaganza with a bunch of their good pals. We tried fishing the local-local zone but for fear of losing our title of being a "long-range" boat, we decided to motor on down to the hot area from the past couple of trips. Reports still sound good on the Yellowfin tuna and one boat saw a few schools of those bigger Bluefin and they managed to land some 60 lbers. We'll be giving it a go tomorrow morning at first light. Hello Everyone, Today we had a full speed bite on the Dorado. One kelp we stopped on had a good hit, but later that day we found an eager school free swimming in the water. The Dorado fishing has been awesome the past couple weeks I hope it stays this good. We will be fishing Yellowtail tomorrow. Wish us luck, Team supreme

This past week was all about yellowtail and warm water. 40 - 115 yellowtail per trip with a sprinkling of dorado sums up the past week. I attached a photo of the terrafin chart for our area to show you guys all the warm water. Anything over 70 degrees is considered warm and as you can tell we have plenty of it. As a matter of fact finding the cooler water has actually been the key to catching these yellowtail. The most common question this week was "when are the yellowfin going to show up". While I don't have a crystal ball to tell you exactly when they are going to show up. I can tell you that they have made a major northern movement over the past week and there has been yellowfin tuna caught as close as 60 miles. Our hunt for mahi mahi was rudely interrupted by big schools of 10-30 lb yellowfin tuna. 107 yellowfin, 23 skipjack. 20-30 lb and size 2 hook was the hot setup. Few fish on colt snipers as well !

Go fly a kite. We did. Awesome weather and great signs of big tuna all around us. We hit them with everything we had -kites, sinker rigs, fly line sardines, mackerels, flying fish on 100 lb then 80 lb, then 60 lb, then 40 lb, then 30 lb nothing. Chunking - nothing. Anchored, then drifted, then trolled. We proved that fishing does not equal catching. If you listened close enough - you could hear the cow tuna laughing at us. We found solace in chef Schoolers platters of sashimi, wonton cups filled with marvelous ahi poke and bacon wrapped asparagus. We heard of a place where 30 lb Dorado and mid sized yellow fin play. We are going there now.

Nov. 8

Timing is everything. And so far our timing for the most part has been a little off, whether it be wrong day or wrong time. This morning we caught some quality fish. Less of them then we were hoping but we caught a handful of 35-50 pound yellowfin mixed in with several handfuls of smaller ones and a couple of wahoo. It didn't take long for Tommy to figure out that this was the wrong day not time. So we took off from there in search of. We found a few more wahoo on our next spot but only landed one before we kept sliding down to new zones. We fished a couple other spots for just a couple more fish while setting ourselves up for some stellar bait making. We got that job done before dinner and as I write this we are anchored up in cow town. We're expecting a couple slowish days while we're down here but the fish we land should be trophies.

The weather down here remains good. Clear skies, little wind and it's hot and muggy. Well I'm going to go back to bed for another hour or so. Check back to see how many trophies we get today.
