 Remember yesterday when I said we would find our dorado kelp?  Well we conquered that quest.  I tell no lies.  An hour or so after breakfast, maybe 2, we found a kelp loaded and we went to battle and overall I think we won.  I mean we caught exactly what we wanted.  Beautiful mahi mahi.  After that we went back to travel mode and we'll be arriving to our slip in San Diego tomorrow at 0800 hours.  We ate some of that mahi for dinner tonight while we watched a slide show of all the pictures taken this trip presented to us by Tommy.  Everyone misses there wives and they all told me, "Drew, I couldn't spend another minute without my wife".  That's why this trip was 15 days.  It's the maximum amount of time we can spend without our wives.

 So we tie up tomorrow and that's the way we'll stay until November 9th, when we'll be departing on a 10 day trip.  So until then, I'd just like to say how much I'll miss writing to you all.  Stay classy and thanks for stopping by, but mostly, stay classy.
         

A decent whack on the 50-70 pound Bluefin gave us a total of 17 Bluefin and 45 Yellowtail for our light load of 11 Angler’s today. We go again tomorrow night with another super light load.

Nov. 12

Not too much to report today, but we got our lines in the water, and ended up with a few varieties of fish chilling in the refrigerated sea water. We ended up at sort of a one-stop-shop in that we caught the three species that we were targeting all on the anchor. That is not typical fishing, down this way. We usually find the fish one species at a time. Half the boat caught a wahoo today so that's not a bad start and we caught quite a few 15-30 pound yellowtails too with a handfull of call them 25-40 pound tuna as well. Weather continues to be nice, with a bit of wind that popped up later on in the day. It was great to finally use some of that tackle today, that we've spent so much time rigging over the past few days. Now we can get down to the serious business of (hopefully) catching some creatures from the deep blue sea to bring home, and share with our families at the dinner table.All is well aboard the Polaris Supreme, and it's first call for our evening meal consisting of pork chops, apple sauce, and assorted goodies. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-26-2019 Good afternoon everyone I hope you guys had a great day like we did! Our weather was absolutely slick flat calm all day. I am afraid we're going to have to pay for this later on though. The usual rigging eating sleeping went on throughout the whole day here. Getting geared up for tomorrow when we arrive in our fishing destination. The Polaris Supreme Crew

 About mid morning today I was pretty bummed. I felt we should've been here yesterday. I was thinking we were going to have to run in tonight to catch our tuna for the trip. I was wrong. Before lunch we had our best stop of the year on yellowfin. Not just number wise but size wise too. 20-30 pounders with a few 18's and a few 35's. That's right, feeling pretty good now. It didn't take very many of them to fill up a fish hold. We pretty much have 2 full fish holds and fortunately/unfortunately, we have to prepare another fish hold for tomorrow. I only say unfortunately because we'll be forced to use the beautiful sardine we've been saving. Out here we've been catching our own bait so we wouldn't have to use our stock but we have no room to put the bait we catch now.

 The bluefin weren't in the biting mode today. We still saw the schools as we have everyday since we've been fishing in this zone, but some days are bite days and some aren't. Obviously we're hoping tomorrow is a bite day. Some bluefin would be the cherry on top of this wonderful sundae.

 The weather sure was nice today and to top it all off, it looks like we'll have the same tomorrow. Sweet dreams. Life is good.

These bluefin are averaging 40 pounds and are very catchable on 30 lb. come prepared with different line sizes from 20-40 lb. hooks from #4-2/0. Match your Flourocarbon size to your mainline size. Listen to the crew, even if you have been fishing since before they were born.

 Thank goodness for slow speed.  Even though we got a really good jump yesterday, we weren't going to be getting anywhere down below till late tomorrow.  Our speed was horrible.  1.5 knots below average.  But we sped up this morning.  Yup.  This morning we were only making .75 knots below average.  That all costs a whole lot of time when you're traveling great distances so we decided we'd have to be stopping short.  So that's what we did this afternoon, arriving at 4:30.

 Wow!  It didn't take long before everyone had a tuna on.  And they weren't those 8-14 pounders either.  There were some of those, but the majority of them were those 20-30 pounders.  I say again, "wow".  It bit steady the whole time we which is a couple of hours.  During the stop, I had tied a few hooks and cast a few baits out, you know , like we do, and quite a few times the hook would fall off and I would scratch my head and ask myself, " are my knots failing"?  They weren't.  It took crew member Justin to spot a wahoo flying out of the water to figure it out.

 So we wound them in and threw back the marauders.  Before dark, which wasn't long, we had a little binger for 5 and then one for 1 50 pounder.  Say it with me now.  "Wow"!  We aren't going anywhere tonight.  We'l just kick back and see what the day has to offer.

 My buddy Glen caught the 50 pound wahoo today.  Every year for a while now he has been the last member of the little troll team that I like to call, " the troll of shame"  That's the last few people on board who have not yet caught a wahoo.  He will not be joining that team this year.  Nope.  This year he can join the heckling party.  He get's to see what it's like from the other side.  Way to go Glen.
