51 anglers, 106 Yellowfin Tuna, 255 Skipjack Tuna. Saved by one stop again.

Good evening Polaris Supreme fans.  Checking in from the tuna grounds.  This morning started out at at  with kites in the sky and lines in the water right away.  We were hoping to start the day off by seeing a school of Skipjack or small tuna below the boat to use as bait, but they didn't seem to find us.  Foe those who don't know, that is candy for giant yellowfin.  As the progressed, we did however see an increase in shark life.  That seemed to be the trend today.  We did manage to land a handful of tuna from 50-100 lbs, with Bill Mikkelson leading the pack with a nice 169 lb tuna.  At the the age of 84, he's still showing the young guys how it's done.  There was certainly good sign of life as we drove around trolling for wahoo, which we managed to throw another handful of on deck.   Speaking of wahoo, Chef Mike served an amazing wahoo melt sandwich today for lunch that was to die for.  A slow day of fishing can always be cured by a nice eal, and Mike never fails to deliver.

                So, tomorrow we fight on and hope to get on that one school that wants to chew for us. That's all it takes. Thanks for checking in and til tomorrow, this is the boys on the Supreme saying good night

We have to fill this Oct 5-day. All season long I here everyone asking how they can get on one of our 10 passenger Guadelupe trips. Well here it is. I have 2 spots open on what is really a 5.5 day trip to Guadelupe with only 10 people on the Apollo. The trip departs on the morning of Oct 1rst at 9am. and returns mid morning on the 6th. $1800 covers all meals and permits. This trip is a charter and if you are a part of it now chances are you'll be invited on many other trips with this group in the future. One of the things that makes these fish so special is the fact that they are challenging. Growing up in San Diego, I never would have thought it would be possible to catch a 100 pound tuna and sleep in your own bed. Today the special opportunity continued as we landed 3 bluefin. 2@ 75 lbs and 1 @ 156.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-20-2016 As I'm writing this right now the boat looks like a ghost ship. The boys are down for the count, after our first day of phenomenal Wahoo fishing and another day of great Wahoo fishing tuna fishing and yellowtail fishing into the dark they are some whipped puppies. In about 59 minutes we are going to try to do it all over again. I'm really curious to see how many are up as early as they were the first day! Thanks for tuning in we will try to get you some more reports for the upcoming day. Don't count on them coming out to quick we've been swamped! And yes it is still great weather!  Good evening and welcome to the Polaris Supreme. We made it out tonight on one of those day and a halfers we have all over the schedule for the next couple of weeks. We even had one lucky walk up angler who boarded us last minute. He wasn't expecting us at all. Came to fish a local boat and got the Polaris Supreme. He even was wearing our jacket. He had prime rib for dinner. So we'll be fishing tomorrow and then coming home. I'll tell you about it tomorrow.
 The final weigh ins were made. Or I should say weigh in. Justin new he stood no chance so he didn't even weigh himself. Go Mark. 225 with boots on.
 
 

Saturday, September 29th, 2012

Hi friends. Tough day for us down here in the magical kelp paddy zone. The weather gave us fits all day but we did manage to scratch a day together. The weather was workable but not favorable with 18 knots of wind and a short, medium-sized wind chop. I had trouble going any kind of northerly or westerly direction most of the day for fear of soaking our mast-man.

Even with the weather, we managed to catch 60 yellowfin tuna, 19 yellowtail, 17 dorado, and some skipjack off of a few jig strikes and multiple kelp paddies. We saw good water structure and found plenty of beautiful kelps but all we found were either scraps from other boats or the fish we did see, were just reluctant to latch on to our hooks. All in all, I'm happy with our day and I feel that we were right on par for the boats in the area. Guys have been fishing the same kelps for days and days --either in the local zone or this lower zone-- so I felt the need to get on something fresh and get away from the glob of boats in the area. It kind of panned out but like I said, I'm happy with our day --weather considered-- and our group hung tough with the sloppy weather.

So that is all. We'll be returning to the docks tomorrow sometime between 11:00 and noon, and we'll be turning around for another day and a half trip tomorrow evening. The weather is projected to come down and now all we have to worry about is getting a load of bait that doesn't die eighteen hours later. Take care and we'll chat with you tomorrow.
