July 31

This morning we had a good drift. We drifted along for a few hours catching mostly 40-70 pounders sometimes with as much as 5 going at a time. Unfortunately at around 9:30 am it stopped biting. We tried to be patient but it was done. After that it was a very slow day for the whole fleet. Most of the fish went down and the schools we found the rest of the day didn't want to play. A little before dark they got back in the mode and we had a nice stop on which started off 12-18 pounders and then turned into 30-40 pounders. That's it for this trip. We're headed back to the dock and are scheduled for a 6:00 eta. The big guy Tommy Rothery is taking the boat out for a 6 day trip and Richie will be coming back out too so the reports should get more entertaining. I'll be going home to hang with my lovely wife and needy dog. Take care all.

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

Besides the air temperature it almost felt like summer today. Hopscotched schools of yellowtail all day long. Ended up with 102 yellowtail from 12-20lbs. Yo-yo jigs and dropper looped sardines worked best.

97.5 mile track line produced zero fish. The Coronado Islands are just as slow. The hunt continues tomorrow. Hope your here when they pop back up

July 21
    I don't think anything abnormal happened today during our turn around.  Well, Sysco was late so we left for the fuel dock before that came aboard so, just another turn around day is what I'm trying to say.  We loaded the Paul Hess group, our Hess homies and we were out.  I think things went OK at the bait receivers.  We'll find out.  We fished this afternoon.  It's the year of departure fish days.  We scratched 16 nice grade tuna.  We're traveling now and I'm on watch.  It's almost 3:00 am on the 22nd and I believe we're in American waters.  I'm thinking about it and I don't think I've ever fished in American waters in the beginning of a 5 day trip which is what we're on.

    The weather this afternoon was rolly and choppy.  The weather now is pretty nice but I think it's supposed to be bad the next couple of days.  Windy, choppy, rolly oh my.

 

Viva variety! We started the day off with some excellent Yellowtail fishing. Mixed grade fish from 8 lbs to 35 lbs. The majority was released but we were able to pull some nice grade fish aboard. Weather is great and conditions are good down here. Will report again tomorrow, Team Supreme

Here is a late report from Sunday. Captain Ryan checked in from the San Diego with a Yellowtail update. Today we caught 151 California Yellowtail, 19 Pacific Bonito and 3 Calico Bass. The amazing Island fishing continues.

Fishing was absolutely phenomenal! If the last two day were great, today was even better. We had a good morning bite and then topped off the trip with an afternoon bite that went well into the dark. The tuna were biting the kite and anything else we put in the water. All fish ranged between 175 and 260 pounds. All anglers had a shot at them and a couple landed two. We did however stop to replenish our energy with some of Pedro's great food. For lunch we had tuna with a red sauce and ravioli on a bed of spinach with a cream sauce. Sounds like a weird combo, but boy did it taste good together. And dinner was a great roasted Cornish game hen with all the veggies and potato on the side. In addition to Pedro, I have to say our crew has done a fantastic job. They really work well together. And of course Lon and his group were a delight to have on board. And by the conversation in the galley, they are all planning on returning to this trip next year. Lon is going to open it up so if you are interested call Susan in the office. There will be a couple of spots. And on that note we are heading for home in excellent weather. We will be at the dock Sunday morning. Come down and see this great catch. Meet Lon from OTR. "Today was another great day of bluefin fishing," wrote Polaris Supreme skipper Drew Henderson June 24. "We found the first school at 6:30 in the morning and we plunked on it again for 5 hours. Plenty of fish came aboard but again the landing ratio was a bit poor. It's a war zone with all the net boats out there. They drive 100 feet from your boat at 15 knots to get at your school."

At Fisherman's Landing June 26, Drew said, "We got rained on a bit yesterday." He weighed the fish, and the hands-down first-place winner was Harv Domsalla of Douglas, WY, with a 73-pound bluefin that came out of a school of albacore. It beat Domsalla up for 45 minutes.

"He kept making runs," said Harv. "I credit the crew for helping me get it aboard. I'm a novice. The other anglers helped a lot, too, by moving out of the way while he waltzed me around the boat about four times."

Harv said he fished a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad hook, with an outfit borrowed from the boat: 30-pound P-Line, a TLD 15 reel and a six-foot rod.

Harry Harms was second, for a 38-pound bluefin, and Bruce Burton of Wildomar won third place for a 37-pound bluefin tuna.
