Hello Everyone,
Today was a fun day of fishing with lots of action. Mainly bi catch and non targeted species. We were able to scrape up some Yellowtail but it was not easy. Between Sea Lions and other boats it was a grind. Very fun and entertaining day just not for the targeted fish. We will be in tomorrow and out for a 4 day. So we fished today on our open party 1.5 day trip. What a morning. We got on a school early. In the dark. I saw them on the sonar, then stopped, then looked out the window and there they were, swimming around under the lights. So I dropped a bait in the water and a minute later I had a tuna on board. So I woke up the crew and the passengers and we commenced fishing. Before the sun came up we were finished. I mean we had our daily limit of yellowfin so we passed the school off to another boat and moved on. The reason we were able to get it done so quickly this morning was because the fish were small. Unfortunately that's what the plan was all along. The good grade tuna schools are missing here in 3 day range at the moment. we've seen this before. It's no surprise during a tuna season. I don't believe it's over. Just temporarily down.
So we wanted to get our tuna out of the way early and then concentrate on finding dorado kelps, but we never found too much for dorado kelps. The wind blew too. It was perfect weather this morning, but by lunch it was blowing a good 25 knots. Not comfortable. Thing went back down though. It didn't stay windy. It's nice now.
We get in tomorrow and we're going to take a couple of days off so we'll see you when we see you. And by that I mean write and read.
7 yellowtail 109 calico bass 63 barracuda. Plenty of bites but with the lack of yellowtail we have decided to head offshore starting tomorrow. We recommend having a 20-30lb rod for kelps and smaller grade tuna and another rod with 40-60lb preferably with a 2 speed reel for fish over 50lbs. Flourocarbon is always recommended when we are offshore. Be prepared to fish flylined baits, sinker rigs and flat falls.

1612Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-11-2014
Hello Sportfishing Fans. We are off on Bill Stephens annual 5 day with out Bill. He couldn't make it due to work scheduling. What a bummer working all year putting together a trip and not being able to go. Any way we all appreciate it. From all of us on the Polaris Supreme Thanks Bill. We have started the trip off with a bang at the bait receiver's picking up a nice load of 6 in. sardines and cured anchovies to go with a couple of tanks of green back mackerel Drew and the boys caught last trip. It looks like there is some tuna fish to catch very close to home so why not stop and try it? We did and we saw a couple schools of bluefin. One acted like bluefin but on the other we hooked 3 and caught 2-35 pounders. I wish that stuff would move south 150 miles. That would make it more convenient for a long range boat. We also caught a handful of yellowfin. We're going to head south and probably start early in on the coastal grounds for yellowtail before heading offshore to the tuna grounds in the afternoon.
The weather is getting windier the further south we go so we're planning on it wind tomorrow.

We were back on The Ridge today. We got to the spot a little after daylight and we found some action after a little bit of looking. We were making drifts catching wahoo and tuna. No great numbers on the wahoo. We caught one per rod. That's an average though. Not everyone caught one. For example, I believe team Oberg caught 3 or 4, and team Grella caught 5. So it wasn't a great spread but everyone had there chances. For example, team Holeman went 1 for 7 nd team Henry lost a bunch too. But when they weren't losing wahoo they were pulling on tuna. A bit on the smaller side but not too small. We were tagging the bigger ones. It was a fun and productive day I thought. But we always want more.
We left a little while after lunch toward Alijos Rocks and we'll be there all day tomorrow. We'll most likely have to leave tomorrow night though because the wind, she's acoming.

1906Hi everyone, We will be fishing the Channel Islands out of Santa Barbara this weekend and we have space on a open charter sponsored by Berkley. These are always fun trips to be a part of there will be give aways and swag. The trip will depart from Sea Landing at 9pm on Thursday night and fish Friday returning Friday evening. The trip will target Shallow water rockfish and if there is some sign of seabass or halibut around we will give those a shot too. The trip is limited to 20 people and the cost is $200.
