coastal fisherman Fishing Report 2025

After spending all day yesterday searching for yellowtail without success. Today we decided to put the feelers out and look at some new areas. After a couple hours of searching we found exactly what we were looking for. The yellowtail we found today were really active for about an hour. In one hour our 15 anglers managed to put 20 very nice size yellowtail on the deck. Our yellowtail today were caught on yo-yo lures, surface lures as well as fly lined sardines. Make sure you bring a bait rod to go with your yo-yo rod from here on out.

~~Nov. 13
 All I can say is we tried.  The baiting went well last night and we arrived to cow town before sunrise.  Until 3:30 in the afternoon we didn't see much.  We fished hard though once again.  Most stayed at the rail.  We tried 4 anchor jobs, and a bunch of drifts but like I said, until 3:50 we didn't see much.  At 3:50 though things woke up but unfortunately it was short lived and we have nothing to show for it.  It gets dark so early now.  We saw 3 good spots of 200-300 pound tuna blowing out of the water and 1 really good sonar school of 50 pounders but we could get no reaction from them.  At least we got to see them.  It's better than never seeing them at all.

 I felt the vibe on board and I know the passengers want some action so we're going to try and deliver.  We'll be running up tonight and we're going to give "The Ridge" another try tomorrow.  We'll go for action and then we still have wahoo to catch.
        

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

4 yellowtail and plenty of rockfish. We saw a couple nice schools of yellowtail. They act like cold water fish !

Capt Mike Pritchard from the Tribute called in an early morning report on behalf of Jay Kinsley making his maiden voyage and they are off to a great start. They have over 50 mixed tuna by 8:30am on board and some hanging and was very busy and could not talk long.  Here's what went down today.  Breakfast, then American Hustle(movie), then a whole lot of tuna leader making, then the Charger game.  Listen to this.  Our goofball crew member Mark Clark, well he claims to be a Raider fan but the only time he seems to care what they do is when they play the Chargers.  Myself and the rest of the crew usually bet 20 dollars on each game. Well today couldn't have played out better.  Prior to the start of the game he assumed we were betting and to rub it in that the Raiders are no good, I claimed I didn't want to bet because I'd feel I was taking money out of his sons pocket.  He insisted  we bet so we did.  I still had it planned out to give him his money back if the Chargers blew them out as the ultimate rub in.  So if you didn't know, it was a nail biter.  Mark missed the last couple minutes of the game and everyone on board made him think that the Raiders won.  He immediately came down to the galley and just absolutely let me have it.  I don't know
 how but I managed to keep a straight enough face to still have him think the Raiders won.  Ever since then he's been on cloud 9.  I don't know how and when I'll break the news and bring his reality crashing down to a major low.  I'm sure looking forward to it though.  He thinks he's up 120 bucks but more importantly to him he gets to talk all that smack. 

 Anyways, moving on.  It's cocktail hour now and soon we will be feasting on a veal chop.  One more day.  The weather is fantastic right now.  A beautiful sunset too.

A decent whack on the 50-70 pound Bluefin gave us a total of 17 Bluefin and 45 Yellowtail for our light load of 11 Angler’s today. We go again tomorrow night with another super light load.

Our first stop of the day was a bit humbling as we went 10 out of probably 50+ on the 50-110 pound Bluefin (anything under 40 on these fish was too lite).

We ended the trip with 14 Bluefin and 41 Yellowfin (18-60 pounds) in great weather for our 27 Angler’s, we go again tonight.
