 Well we had some action today.  We fished our wahoo/tuna honey hole.  It wasn't red hot but we made some drifts and caught some fish.  Our last couple schools we saw before lunch didn't react so we took a tour.  We found some tuna a couple hours into the tour.  The bigger ones.  The 25-35 pounders but we weren't ready.  Some were napping or lounging.  It hit us quick.  Everyone that made it out hooked up but it didn't last long.  We got on a couple of more deals after that but they were smaller fish.  12 pounders so we continued on our tour.  We looked for yellowtail in the afternoon but like everywhere right now it seems, there wasn't any current. 
  The weather straightened out for us today.  It was nice again.  We have one day left to fish and we want to do it catching yellowtail.  The elusive yellowtail.  That's usually the fish we don't have trouble finding but we've struck out this trip on them thus far.  We have about 30.  We want more so that's what we'll do.  From where we'll be fishing we can fish until lunch but then we have to hit the road for home.
       
 

Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

Hi friends. Not too much to report today on the Polaris Supreme. After the completion of lunch, all we did was pull on bluefin tuna, dorado, and yellowtail. Granted, the dorado's were shin slappers and the yella's were neck ties, but we did weed out a handful of nicer onces and kept the BFT's a comin'. We did see a couple flurries of that smaller 12-15 lb. fish, but for the most part, our grade was a solid 25-30 lb. grade, and they bit very well too.

To give you an idea of how good fishing was, and for some reason, I'm still kind of buzzing about this situation, but after monitoring the anglers on the bow for a while, I couldn't help but toss a line out, as there were boils ten feet from the boat and the angler participation was starting to dwindle as the end of the day was upon us and the cocktails were beginning to flow. Anyhow, I was soaking a bait for a bit, chattin' it up with an angler to my left, and here comes another angler to the bow with a fish that's close to gaff on my right. So, I grabbed a gaff, put my rod in the gaff holder, in gear, and told the angler "If this gets bit (pipe dream), grab it and swap out your rod for the hooked up one." About thirty seconds later, as my anglers fish was getting ready for the death-shot, I hear "Hey Richie! Something is--uh--happening!" Low and behold, the gaff rig is full bendo with line screaming off of it. Wowza! For all this "Bluefin require a stealthy approach and light line", we hooked one up with a half dead bait, in gear, sitting in the rack. Bottom line, excellent fishing. No reason to not tell a little story that I thought was pretty hot.

So that's it. Pretty easy decision for tomorrow's activities as we're going to put out the "sack" and try have a repeat of today tomorrow. Hopefully we connect with a morning bite on the bag and don't have to pull it first thing at 0530 hours. Our weather is just okay, a little breezy and choppy but plenty workable conditions. Capt Mike Pritchard on the Tribute calling in a fantastic fishing this morning, we have over 100 Yellowfin Tuna kelp hopping around the temporary pens. We have seen lots of Dorado in the area putting on show jumping, although we haven\'t been able to entice any to bite yet. We still have lots of time to fish today, the fishing has been the best we have seen in years. Now is the time to get out, call the landing to check for available spots on upcoming trip. Capt Ryan Bostain from the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing called in a report after going offshore today, we had a nice mixed bag of fish today. We had 50 anglers on board and ended the day with 60 Yellowtail, 38 Yellowfin Tuna and 5 Bluefin Tuna. The Yellowtail were in the 7-12 pound range and the Yellowfin were 15 - 35 pounders. We got a school of larger Bluefin Tuna and only managed to put on the boat around 50 pounds. We are going to continue offshore, if you want to come out bring an assortment of live bait set ups. You\'ll need size 2 - 2/0 hooks and maybe some smaller sliding sinkers. See you on the water.

Stopped the boat on multiple schools of tuna. Unfortunately they were still in a funk. When it was all said and done we landed 4 yellowfin. Back at it tomorrow.

We departed yesterday on a 3 Day open group of some Fun looking regulars and new folks. We have had to go way farther than normal to get to good fishable country but we are scratching away today. Weather is great and we are having fun. Polaris Supreme Crew.

Mike Pritchard called in with this report from the Tribute. "We had a little bit of the choppy weather hear today. We have a little over 50 mixed fish. So far we have caught some Dorado with Bluefin mixed in. We still have plenty of daylight left and we're hoping to pull in some more Bluefin. We'll keep you posted as the day progresses.

July 6

Today went as planned. We did about what we thought we'd do. Scratched at yellowfin most of the day. Our best stop was for 7, then 6, we had a handfull of 4's and the rest were 3's 2's and 1's. That's exactly how the tuna fishing has been on a good day for the last few weeks so we had a good day.

The weather did what it was supposed to do. It was beautiful in the morning and got breezy in the afternoon. It looks like the wind backed off when it got dark. Hopefully it stays that way. We're heading down to Cedros Island now and we'll be there at day break.
