west central florida Fishing Report 2024

Good evening everyone, Today we spent the day searching for yellowtail, yellowfin tuna, and Wahoo. The conditions were poor but we still managed to scratch up some Wahoo. Not an incredible volume of fish but all still very appreciated. We are hoping for good current tomorrow so hopefully the fish decide to chew. We are going to fish the same area tomorrow. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-11-2014

Hello Sportfishing Fans. We are off on Bill Stephens annual 5 day with out Bill. He couldn't make it due to work scheduling. What a bummer working all year putting together a trip and not being able to go. Any way we all appreciate it. From all of us on the Polaris Supreme Thanks Bill. We have started the trip off with a bang at the bait receiver's picking up a nice load of 6 in. sardines and cured anchovies to go with a couple of tanks of green back mackerel Drew and the boys caught last trip. It looks like there is some tuna fish to catch very close to home so why not stop and try it? We did and we saw a couple schools of bluefin. One acted like bluefin but on the other we hooked 3 and caught 2-35 pounders. I wish that stuff would move south 150 miles. That would make it more convenient for a long range boat. We also caught a handful of yellowfin. We're going to head south and probably start early in on the coastal grounds for yellowtail before heading offshore to the tuna grounds in the afternoon.

The weather is getting windier the further south we go so we're planning on it wind tomorrow.

No yellowtail for us today, even though we did stop on a few schools. Canceled for tomorrow due to lack of reservations.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-11-2016 Good evening folks, Polaris Supreme checking in. We started our day in the same area where we had phenomenal yellowtail fishing yesterday. The bait was there, the birds were there and the current was there, but for some reason the yellowtail were not. We did manage to pick away at a couple yellowtail, but we just couldn't get the ball rolling. After accepting the fact that the yellowtail pulled a no-show, we decided to make our way offshore in hopes of better things. And indeed better things we found! We spotted a big beautiful kelp patty that had a jumbo school of large hungry yellowtail beneath it. It was a day saver! These fish were biting the fly line and yo-yo jigs. We also saw a couple nice Dorado on the kelp but they did not like our offerings. We are now making way back up north to another area where we will be finishing off our trip by fishing for those larger size yellowtail once again. Also, sorry for the lack of pictures today. Today went as planned. We fished yellowtail for a few hours in the afternoon to break up the travel time getting down below. We had to hunt a little but everybody on board got their share of tugging and pulling. We're traveling tonight toward the ridge. We should arrive in the afternoon if we don't stop prior to.

  He made the right move.  Tommy that is.  We came, we saw, we conquered.  I told you we'd be at The Island today.  It was good.  We had good fishing.  We arrived after breakfast, and found a little something  to work with but we could tell it just wasn't it.  So we looked around and we found "It".  Premo's.  Premiums baby and lots of them.  We had one heck of an afternoon on premium grade yellowtail.  When we say that we mean a mid to upper 20 average.  Slug yellowtails.  You never get used to it either.  Every time someone brings one over the rail it's like, "dang those things are beauts"!  And that's all I have to say about that.  A very full hold of slugs and then some.

  Once again we can not get one to bite the surface iron.  The past few trips have been prime surface iron conditions.  We have the Big Banana out(the long pole) but we can not get Banana crazy.  Weird.

  

We're going to try and get our tuna on the next couple of days.  If we happen to bump into some more YT's along the way then ok.  That'll be alright.  The fleet for the most part has been off the mexican yellowfin the last several days and we're going to try and get back on them.  It's sounds like there has been an impressive amount of fish being seen up above in the U.S.  It doesn't bite on a consistent basis yet but that's soon coming.  It bites fairly often but I have a feeling the fleets in for some very good fishing in the near future.  I'm not necessarily trying to get you to book, but come on, book.  There may be a spot or two left.
