Hello Everyone Today fishing was slow. We spent the day offshore looking around for any warm water fish that wanted to play. Unfortunately we only were able to land a few small Yellowfin Tuna. On the bright side we have superstar pizza chef Joe Gigliotti aboard and today. He decided to grace us with his pizza talent. He whipped up more pizzas than you could shake a stick at with so many topping combinations that it would make the Poppa Johns R and D department have to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to even have a chance of keeping up. It truly seemed like the endless lunch, always finding room for one more slice, and another and another. Fishing was slow but the pizzas were coming in HOT and often! Hi friends. Well, the morning started out pretty well for us. Got an early wake up from Riddler after an all night freeze in our crew staterooms. The new A/C works too well. We all slept in socks and sweaters and were still freezing. We felt like Sinka in "Cool Runnings" when John Candy throws him in the ice cream truck to simulate what the temperature would be like for their bobsled race. Anyhow, with The Outfields "Use Your Love" stuck in my head, we started hooking some bluefin tunas in the 50 lb. range, give or take a few pounds, and we managed to boat six of those beauties. A good start to our morning but that was it for our day on the BFT. Nice to see 'em, but not a whole lot of substance to it, so we continued on our journey south.

Throughout the day, we stopped on multiple kelp paddies for a few handfuls of quality 14-25 lb. yellows and we even snagged a few 18 lb. yellowfin tuna as well, so that was sweet. We didn't have a banner day by any means but we scratched a decent day out of it and everyone had a shot at a quality offshore gamefish. With that, we didn't see a whole lot to keep us offshore so we'll be heading elsewhere to try and locate some sabas (greenback mackerel) and some yellowtail as well. We'll be in the zone around 23:45 hours and the passengers are downstairs enjoying barbecue ribs, corn, and cherry pie.

Just a quick bit of news before I sign off: fishing in the day and a half range picked up late in the day on bluefin tuna. Good scores for the guys and granted we're further south than those guys, we're keeping our eyes on that developing situation. Be sure to check our schedule as we have a couple of day and a half trips on the schedule.

So that is all. Weather is chilly but the sea state is plenty fine. We'll be at it here in a few hours so we better get some sleep. Take care.

Hi everyone. A fun day was had by all here on the Polaris Supreme. For a while, it was looking rather bleak, but we got on a breezer a little after lunch time and "put the wood on" some Bluefin. That last quotation was a Mark Clark-ism, I don't know what putting the wood on means but he apparently says it when he would like our anglers to hook up and pull on some fish. Well, from lunch time until sun down, they were looking like they all worked at the lumber section of Home Depot. We also had a nice sonar school towards the end of the day that gave us a ripper up until dark. Lots of good times for the boys today here on the Polaris Supreme. All the kids had a blast and we're throwing out the "sack" tonight to hopefully do this again tomorrow. Hopefully, the time of day thing gets straightened out and we have some action in the morning time. We'll chat with you tmorrow.

P.S. The Phrase Is "putting the wood to them" not on them. Thus the Clark-ism variation. The Term comes from a time when your father would make you go to the wood pile to pick your own piece of lumber to spank you for lipping off or what ever you did wrong. So we spanked the tuna, put a hurt on them, or put the wood to them! Tommy.

 

 

Wow, absolutely phenomenal fishing on the wahoo today. We fished daybreak to dark in two main spots. Wahoo everywhere we went. Lures, bombs, bait and trolling all worked. The anglers had a fantastic time in nice calm weather. We will be checking out a couple spots tomorrow and have another full day to fish the wahoo. Today Jeff prepared wahoo enchiladas for lunch and he absolutely nailed it. They were sooo good. Wish us luck for tomorrow. Thanks, Tommy and crew

We are going to run an open party limited load trip on Sunday March 2nd. The trip will cost $130 and will depart at 9pm on the night of the 1st. Aug. 17
    Today almost went as planned except for the lack of yellowfin.  We were supposed to scratch pretty good at the yellowfin in the morning, like 40 or so and then get on that big bluefin, and then scratch out another 30 or so yellowfin in the evening.  Well we did the middle part but the numbers were lower on the sides.  We saw plenty of that yellowfin, it just didn't bite well.  On with the cool part.  We found a mega school of that 70-100+ pound bluefin mid morning.  It's been a long time since I've seen a mega school and every time I do I forget about the time before and I think it's the biggest school I've ever seen and that's how today was.  Of course it didn't bite, but for me up in the wheel house where I can see it well it was incredible.  Just the area of fish was monstrous, and when you add in all the shiners and thousands of black backs swimming through, it's amazing.  We fished it for 4 hours on different attempts.  On the first, the youngster Brendan hooked up and landed about an 80 pounder.  On the second, his dad Scott hooked up and lost it and we hooked and lost another one.  On the third, Scott hooked up again but this time he landed his 107 pounder. So far it's looking like we'll have a father- son jack pot.  On the next few tries we got no reaction so we let it regroup for a while and a couple hours later we found it again and we hooked two more and lost them both and we missed a bite on the kite.  We tried it one more time after that for no reaction before we left it for good.  We're going to fish again tomorrow.  We'll make a small move and relocate but as things are right now, we don't need much more yellowfin so we'll concentrate on the other kind of tuna.
