Hello everyone, Today we had our sights set on better grade Yellowtail. We had to do some prospecting and searching around the Baja coast. We managed to tag some great quality Yellows in the mid 20 lb class. Great grade fish but we would have liked more of them. We will be trying again tomorrow up the coast. Wish us luck, Team Supreme

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-17-2016 #2 I meant to send this picture of the fathom meter this morning but I forgot about it. This is a screenshot of our fathom meter last night when we hooked the 115 pounder that Jack caught. You can see these Bluefin like to hang between 26 to 40 fathoms. That's pretty darn deep. If you look up towards the upper part of the screen, you will see two flat straight lines. One of them is in the middle of the screen at about 4 fathoms and the other is on the left side at about 11 fathoms. That is somebody under the boat using a live bait sinker rig. Also in the center of the screen you'll see a forward slash. It is light in color and broken up starting at about 4 fathoms going down to 12 fathoms. That is somebody winding a jig up. If you look between 7 to 13 fathoms you'll see a jig someone is dropping down. The point I want to make is that these fish are typically deep and you need to be able to get your bait or jig down into the deeper water columns where these fish are at. Knowing this you should be using those big heavy jigs or heavy torpedo sinker to increase your chances of hooking one of these trophy fish. The tuna did not show up. A couple of us saw schools that did not cooperate at all. We picked up a few yellowtail on kelp patties and a handful yellowfin tuna for the day. We are heading home to regroup. We would like to thank Archie Steele and the gang for joining us we had a great time with the crew and some fantastic fishing the first part of the trip. Capt Mike Pritchard on the Tribute just called in from their 1.5 day trip sponsored by Okuma/Savage Gear, fishing was great. Lingcod was not quite as good as before, we ended up with 56 for the trip and limits of rockfish along with some sheephead and whitefish. The weather was the nicest he has seen and made it hard to get some good drifts in. Good evening, friends. Sorry for the lack of reports. Not a whole lot of excitement going on the with us on the Supreme but around the fleet, is an entirely different story. More on that later.

For us, it's been a lot of work down in the guts of the vessel, ensuring that the Polaris Supreme is running at tip-top performance. On Friday, the day finally arrived: Coast Guard "top side" inspections. At times, the thought of Coast Guard can be somewhat daunting for some boats. For us, it's no big thing. With our weekly maintenance schedules that we perform throughout the year and quality of care that Tommy has given to his beautiful ninety-two foot sportfishing yacht, Coast Guard is no big thing. We appreciate what these people do for us, which is make sure that the vessel operates properly and continues to take our passengers time and time again and return safely. On this day, they also made sure that our crew could properly handle a man overboard situation. In short, we passed with flying colors and as for the operation of the vessel, all is fine for the exception of a couple "minor" things, we passed. We're pumped. This next week Drew, Tommie, Mark, Jamie, our electrician guru Greg Hibbs, master carpenter Steve Russo and myself will take care of the few items that we need cross off the list before our follow-up appointment with the USCG. Our fishing season is nearing and things are starting to get very interesting on the water.

I'm sure most of you read the reports from the boats our on trips right now. Bluefin tuna in the 25-40 lb. class as well as some beauties in the 60-100 lb. category are biting, the Royal Star has captured the first Albacore of the season, a couple Bluefin have also been captured in the day and a half range and spotter planes have been flying around some of the local waters and have seen a few fish as well as some tasty looking conditions. Bottom line, it's time. It's time to get yourself on a trip. Call Susan ASAP, ask what trips have openings and get on a trip now. This crew is ready to go. Let's make it happen. It's just around the corner and you aren't going to want to miss a shot at what is shaping up to be a tasty summer season.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in to relay a report from Captain Cameron. We have 19 anglers today aboard the San Diego and as of about 10 am we have 20 Yellowtail. Tomorrow and Monday are looking good. We are taking Tuesday off as it appears that it will be blowing pretty good.

Today we went out with 15 anglers. We started our trip this morning by searching the area where we caught our yellowtail yesterday. After a couple hours of looking without success, we decided to put the sinkers on and go rock fishing. Our rock fishing efforts were rewarded with 30 reds and 58 miscellaneous rockcod. With only a few hours left in our trip we decided to go looking for yellowtail again. At approximately 1:30 p.m. we located a very nice school of yellowtail along the bottom. This school responded very well to our chum, every sardine that hit the water was desperately swimming for his life creating a very impressive show of boiling yellowtail. After a chaotic 15 minute drift we had two 25 lb. yellowtail.

We have had some great fishing this morning. Including nice sized lingcod and trophy reds. We are also getting some action on the bank rockfish too.The SAT TV is ready for the football games and we look forward to seeing who wins in today's playoff games.

Our first stop of the day produced this 25 lb. Yellowtail.
